Let's talk about social media. As you may know, a debate has arisen concerning the fact of whether or not this device really deserves the time and attention that we give it. This is becoming more and more an issue, as people (especially teens) are experiencing cyberbullying and even depression. I think that social media should be more controlled much more in our lives, and we shouldn’t be spending more time in a screen than with another person. As one of the many reasons why social media is bad, cyberbullying may be the biggest problem with it. To demonstrate, 25% of teens have reported that they have experienced bullying on their phones or the Internet. This means that, by chance, 25 out of 100 kids have been cyberbullied. Likewise, up to 11% of people, when faced with the choice of staying on a device or talking to a person face-to-face, would rather stay on their electronics. In a nutshell, this means that 11 out of 100 people would rather be talking to another user than another person in the flesh and blood. In addition to this, only 8% percent of people say they have found an influential talks and aspects of their lives online. This means less 10 out of 100 people have found something worth their time surfing the Internet. As it can be clearly seen, we seem to be spending more time at a screen and later on, not feeling it was worth our time. Now, social media isn’t all bad. Still, people say that social media can help build confidence. For instance, 1 in 5 teens with a social media account have reported that it makes them feel more confident. So teens can be positively affected by social media. Furthermore, 28% of people say that social media makes them feel more outgoing, while only 5% says it makes them feel less so.
