For many Canadians, looking for news updates on politics, sports, entertainment, music and so on is something that is done daily. In order to keep up with the news people use different many different platforms such as, the TV, word of mouth, social media, online news organizations and search engines. Each and every one of those formats have their own strengths and weaknesses so people must pick and choose exactly which or those formats are worth their time. Personally, I like to use any format that is easily accessible and that I can get while just doing my day's daily activities, which therefore should not required any extra work to actually find. According to those standards, I have chosen to get me to get my daily news updates, from social …show more content…
Almost everyone can agree that getting news from social media is very quick and easy to access. It is quite easy to just turn on a phone to see the daily news updates on social media sites. For example, on twitter I follow the CP24's twitter, so every time I scroll through my twitter feed I can see what broadcasts from CP24 in a time span of strictly 30 seconds if I ever want to know the latest news, in a time span of strictly 10 seconds, I can open up my twitter app and go to CP24's or any other news vendor's twitter page and scroll the very recent news updates and convenient. However, social media sites usually only give a quick summary because for example, with twitter the tweet limit is 150 characters. Even with Face book, where I have liked the kiss 92.5 page which also gives news updates, the character limit is much beyond 140 character limit yet, each post only contains the main plot of the news line with a picture, if available. Using Social media as a way to receive news, cannot give me the details I may want however, that is because it delivers quick news that is cut straight to the …show more content…
This way of attaining news is great to get opinions and have conversations about the news, from the people I talk to. For example, every morning, when my dad drives me to school he usually tells me something interesting that he heard on the news. We usually then talk about it and give each other's opinions on it which the suddenly turns into a life lesson. Getting opinions and conversing about the news stories from other people really help me have a better understanding of the news. On the other hand, attaining news from another person may not be completely accurate. That person may add in their own opinion or change facts. In that case, if i really want to know completely accurate facts about any news stories, I will depend on myself to find it through a credible news source such as CP24'S website rather than asking others. News attained through other people can be in some cases extremely inaccurate. However talking to other people about the news is a great way to get many perspectives and learn more about that news
The newspaper has been a reliable, yet flawed source of current events throughout all of American history. A newspaper can only inform a person of events that occurred a day previous to its publication, whereas news stations can provide up-to-the-minute information due to multiple broadcasts throughout the day, and can even interrupt other programs for breaking news in order to keep the public informed. The popularity in television causes a viewer to be up to speed in recent events and socially aware, instead of relying on

Social media is the fruit of the current Web 2.0 technology. It is a series of organized applications which need to have internet connection to realize their functions of producing and interchanging of the contents generated by users (Kaplan & Haenlein, 2010). Newspapers and magazines may cease to exist as we know them and simply more to solely electronic productions. “Breaking news” can be moved to live stream videos by newscasters and not formal stories. There is a possibility that newer forms of media will eliminate old forms altogether, but that does not have to be the case. Ideas from both can be taken and merged together to ensure a quick and also trustworthy source for news. Social media is a medium between the two that is a good goal for media companies to reach. Many “old media” news sources have a Twitter, Facebook or other type of social media account related to their companies. The news is trustworthy because it’s coming from a well known source, but it also comes faster than a broadcast story or a newspaper/magazine article. A good example of where having a social media account is more beneficial is with the fire currently burning in Santa Clarita. News sources such as ABC 7, KTLA, and the LA Times are able to give constant updates via “new media” about the condition of the fire and the environment around
