On many occasions the question has been raised, is social media tearing us apart, or simply bringing us closer together? To the children of this interconnected era, the world is one colossal social network. Before the uprising of technology all knowledge was local, you believed what your parents believed, and took everything your teachers said to be fact. This new prosperous era has allowed for children to no longer be stripped of their curiosity and ambition; it allows them to venture out into realms of knowledge rather than simply clinging to what they have been spoon fed their entire lives. Social media has provided for us an outlet to the unknown, which raises the question, without it would we be the developed nation we are today? With the addition of varied social medias into our world it only seems we have a type of site or app to fit everyone’s diverse lifestyles right at their fingertips. Social media has served as an encyclopedia to the simple minded, allowing them access to surpluses of information in mere seconds. Social media has become a significant part of our modern civilization; these sites mark just how far we have come with integrating our social interactions. Social media has served to our benefit in many ways, such as the widespread of accessible news, as well as improving social interactions. We live in a world where the availability of news on social networks makes information more accessible, further resulting in news passing quickly through networks in ways never experienced before. Social media has enabled greater political awareness and organization, which has in some cases rewritten entire political landscapes; it has particularly played a large part in the Iran elections, and Obama’s reelection for a ... ... middle of paper ... ...ou blame them or the gun? You blame them of course, so why when individuals become addicted to these sites do we blame the site, not the individual? Everything in moderation can prove beneficial, “If one oversteps the bounds of moderation, the greatest pleasures cease to please” (Epictetus), it is up to the individuals themselves to dictate a healthy intake. Regardless of what type of social media people use one thing is certain: we are in a period of exponential change. The next decade will be even more incredible and unpredictable than the last. Just as no one could predict what would happen with social media in the last decade, no one can accurately predict where this technology will take us. (Huffington Post 2013) However I believe, that a connected humanity will find a way to uplift itself and utilize this world of ever changing technology to their benefit.
