Fountain Central Jr/Sr. High School Life on the Edge Society should be more aware of the causes and effects of anxiety because even though not everybody has anxiety, not many people understand it very well and do not know how to support people with anxiety. Social anxiety is the third most common mental health problem in the world. Anxiety often “opens the doorway for other incapacitating disorders.” (Dr. Zal) “Anxiety is defined as a nervous disorder characterized by a state of excessive uneasiness and apprehension, typically with compulsive behavior or panic attacks.” (Google) Seventy percent of people struggling with anxiety and depression will improve with therapy, treatment, and medication.
