“Privacy is the state or condition of being free from being observed or disturbed by other people”. (Dictionary.com) In our society, we have lost the sight of the true meaning of privacy and its importance to us as humans and our rights. There is a certain relationship between privacy, a person's dignity and freedom. When you respect a person’s privacy it is as though you are acknowledging the person’s right to the freedom that they deserve and you are recognizing them as an independent human being by respecting their space. This shift brings new issues such as the right of privacy that is being threatened by the access information that has been exposed to society. Social media is a prime example of this, of how our rights as human beings have been intruded on. There are so many appliances that we use in our everyday lives that have been misleading and are privacy threats. There is an app in particular that has promoted their brand of being one of the safest apps titled Snapchat. Although Snapchat promotes its app as ‘safe’, within this app there have been many allegations and accusations concerning the apps misrepresentations of their rights towards privacy. It’s your business- On mobile. Snapchat was founded in September of 2011. With this new discovery, everyone flocked toward it. In a matter of months, Snapchat passed twitter in daily usage.The app blew up quickly, with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg even allegedly offering $3 billion in 2013 – as of January 2017, Snapchat is valued at $25 billion or higher (Rousseau, 2017). Snapchat began with many basic features. The name fits with it because all you would have to do is take a picture and post it. Eventually, as snap chat evolved people were able to do more with it such as sending ‘snaps’ to a mutual friend and eventually make videos titled ‘stories ‘. As the application evolved and times changed the features became more enhanced, now you could comment on someone’s picture and create conversations with them. You could create group chats between your friends and face time people etc. One thing that hasn't changed though is the brand of the app. Within all these attracting aspects, just for our protection snap chat has included self-destructing videos/ pictures, ”Snapchat servers are designed to automatically delete all Snaps after they’ve been viewed by all recipients”( Snapchat com.). Delete is our default this means most messages sent over Snapchat will be automatically deleted once they’ve been viewed or have expired.
