When I was growing up and always playing with animals, I realized what I might want to do with my life. Since animals are, for the most part, vulnerable and helpless, they need someone to take care of them. For animals in need to survive and carry on, there must be a caring person willing to take time out of their day to care for these animals. This person is responsible for providing care such as feeding, cleaning, giving water and administering medication to animals in veterinary offices, zoos, laboratories or animal hospitals. This person is called a veterinary assistant (Writer).
In addition to helping sick animals, another option for veterinarians is doing scientific research and trying to make new medicines (Fact Monster).
Veterinarians can be employed by government agencies and the food indudtry to cater to meat and milk producers to ensure that the herd is healthy and that the product is suitable for human consumption. These veterinarians deal with many animals like ovine (sheep), poultry, porcine (swine) and bovine
Sometimes the clients can be difficult to work with. Working in this field is also very fast paced. Communicating to the clients is a large part of this occupation. It is my job to tell them any reactions their animal may have after receiving vaccinations, medication, etc. I also assist with surgeries, perform dentals, perform physical exams, as well as assisting the veterinarian with any help he/she needs.
Sixty-two percent of Americans own pets in the United States today. However, they aren’t just pets. They’re loyal companions and an owner’s best friend. Majority of people would go to great lengths to help their best friend. Veterinarians examine and care for animals. They perform tests to determine what is wrong with an animal, and then prescribe medicine to help it. Occasionally an animal may even need to stay at the clinic over a period of time until its well enough to go home (“Veterinarians” Oklahoma Career Information System). People who wish to be a veterinarian need specific skills and training to be able to perform the expectations of the job. Once these goals are accomplished vets are able to take opportunities offered of this job and make the income given.
Clinical practice vet techs work in different clinicals ranging from zoos to animal hospitals. As stated before, they have more responsibilities than those of a vet assistant and get paid a bit more. Therefore, they need higher education degrees than vet assistants. Vet techs must be able to assist a veterinarian through tasks such as surgical procedures, injections, or cleaning up wounds. The duties of a vet tech can easily be compared to the duties of a nurse. Similarly to a vet tech, a nurse also assists the doctor with procedures and side
Hours are long and the work is high pressure. The job requires complex responsibilities and decision making. The needs of the animal and those of the owner do not always overlap perfectly, and decisions concerning treatment must be made to best balance the needs of both. In this way, veterinarians act as the gatekeepers of both human and animal welfare. My passion is to play an active role in improving the lives of both my animal patient’s and their human owners. In doing this I believe I will be able to fulfill my drive to help animals that was born out of the devastation I experienced in Japan.
Legitimate & Coercive Power Both legitimate and coercive power are socially dependent and to a certain extent rely upon the target’s ability to be affected by the attempt or influence. Conformity is vital. Both can require lower levels of cooperation from the target than the other types of bases of power. According to French and Raven, the target’s personal attraction to the agent can also affect their power depending upon which type of power is utilized. (French & Raven, 1958) Coercive power uses the force of an agent upon their target in order to ensure obedience or compliance.
