Have you ever imagined the world, buildings, people, being all the same? Many people are similar in so many ways, but they do not notice because they are picking out the differences in the world. However, many people have unique differences that make people special and different. In “Sloppy People vs. Neat People,” the author Suzanne Britt writes about how she believes neat people are lazy and rude. While sloppy people have ambitions to clean but when they do clean the mess just gets worse. In the other article “Batting Clean-Up and Striking Out,” the author Dave Barry writes how women can see the smallest specks of dirt and make a big deal about how the bathroom is a mess. neat people and that she is more biased towards neat people while writing. Throughout the article, Britt states multiple time that neat people just want results. “Neat people don’t care about process. They like results” (Britt 215). Britt hardly gives her opinion about messy people, she mentions only a few times of how sloppy people have ambition to clean but never finish the task. “For all the noble reasons and more, sloppy people never get neat” (Britt 215). Reading more into the article, Britt gives more opinions on why she believes neat people are lazy and rude. Britt’s techniques and style of writing she uses is not as productive due to Britt is only being biased to giving more information of her opinion towards neat people. Britt’s writing style tends to drag on and it is harder for readers to enjoy reading the …show more content…
One way to contrast the two texts is Barry’s argument is stronger than Britts. Barry explains in detail on both sides of the article while Britt only explains the sloppy people a little bit and why she thinks that and goes a lot more into detail on why she believes neat people are rude and lazy. Barry compares both the females and males evenly, giving information and fact about how men think and how he believes women think. One way to compare these articles is both the author’s having their opinion coming from one person. The opinions that they state on the article is just what Britt and Barry believes and nobody else's input what put into it. Britt and Barry are also stereotyping a little bit between both of the topics they talk about. Britt stereotypes neat people and sloppy people saying sloppy people will never have ambition to clean and neat people are lazy and rude. Barry stereotypes males and females saying all males love sports and females do not get the point of it and many females love sports and understand the point of
In The Norton Mix, Suzanne Britt’s “Neat People vs. Sloppy People,” Bruce Catton’s “Grant and Lee: A Study in Contrasts,” and Barbara Ehrenreich’s “Cultural Baggage,” all compare and contrast people or things in the stories. It is important for the author to clearly distinguish what he or she is saying, because it allows the reader to understand the story better. Comparing and contrasting different things is also a way to organize the author’s thoughts. It is important for the reader to be able to see the difference between things or people so one can have a more suitable understanding, better insight, and a firm viewpoint of the subject.
Although society claims that we are in the age where there is gender equality, it is clear that women are still not of equal standing than men. In our society, women are of lower status than men. Such as in the workplace, a male employee’s project proposal is favored over a female employee’s proposal because a male superior believes that women cannot construct ideas as well as male employees. This is a result of how our culture has influence our view that women are less superior than men. Our male dominant culture taught us that women are not as capable as men are and that between the two genders, the man is the superior.
Undoubtedly, the elephant in the room experienced in everyday life is the natural difference schemas between men and women. Yes, both men and women have different sexual organs and physical traits. However, the reality that men and women are treated differently goes further than just the fact that one has a penis and the other has a vagina. At any workplace; although it is not always blatantly obvious, inequality between this gender binary has affect on promotion, salaries, and even daily task preformed. People that have transitioned between genders have experienced this difference and describe it as infuriating. While
David Mamet once stated, “..it is the human lot to try and fail..” This quotation implies that an individual will attempt to achieve success throughout their lifetime, but he/she will also have to face the failures as well. The quote relates to the philosophy that in order to achieve something, one will have to work for it. This quotation is correct and is further supported by two literary works. The two novels are Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and The Pearl, also by John Steinbeck. In these two novels, the protagonists know that their goals are very farfetched and out of the norm, yet they both try to achieve it and ultimately fail.
... Show do housework or laundry, yet I have never seen a pile of dirty clothes; the Huxtables do not seem to have a maid. In contrast I go to Herculean efforts to keep the Health Department from knocking on my door. I do not have time to dust. When I'm not picking up shoes, washing clothes, and screaming for anyone to vacuum, I'm on my hands and knees scraping goo off the floor with a butter knife.
The essay’s thesis is trying to imply that neat people are lazier and meaner and don’t pay any attention to the little things in life. The only part of the essay where the author compares sloppy people and neat people is in paragraph eight. The author says “ The only thing messy in a neat person’s house is the trash can”. This line helps the author build up on her thesis even though it’s implying the exact opposite of what her thesis was. She mentioned earlier that sloppy people care about detail and pay attention to their surroundings while neat people only keep the things that are worth keeping. She then states that sloppy people care enough to sit down for days and go through every single thing on their desk, finding a spot for each and maybe even throw out the things that they don’t need but neat people simply throw everything out. One can say that when reading the sentence that refers to the trashcan being the only messy thing in a neat persons house is quite sarcastic. The author tries to compare these two types of people together and maybe for a second even disagree with her thesis while in reality one can say that she’s just trying to use irony and sarcasm to prove how ridiculous a neat persons actions could be and how they think that they’re cleaning everything up while maybe in reality they’re just making it
In “People Like Us”, the writer talks about tolerance and diversity in the United States. America has for a long time been cited as one of the most diverse countries. Upon investigation of that statement, one will find that it is a fact, for the country is filled with millions of individuals from different ethnic extractions, political affiliations, religion, socioeconomic status, personalities, interests, etc. However, according to “People Like Us”, instead of the population of the country uniting in its diversity and using that as a strength, individuals are trying really hard to distance themselves from others who are not like themselves, and to band themselves together with those who are like them. Are neat people inferior to sloppy people? This question’s answer will differ depending on the type of person you ask. According to Britt in her essay, “Neat people vs. sloppy people”, the answer is yes. She uses certain qualities, such as oral description to differentiate neat people and sloppy people, how neat people are lazier, and how neat people are wasteful. Her qualities help explain to the readers why she thinks that her answer is true.

More and more women work outside and inside the home. The double demands shouldered by these women pose a threat to their physical health. Whether you are an overworked housewife or an exhausted working mother the chances are that you are always one step behind your schedule. No matter how hard women worked, they never ended up with clean homes. Housewives in these miserable circumstances often became hysterical cleaners. They wore their lives away in an endless round of scouring, scrubbing, and polishing. The increased strain in working women comes from the reality that they carry most of the child-rearing and household responsibilities. According to social trends (1996), women always or usually do the washing in 79 percent of cases and decide the menu 59 percent of the time. Picking up the children at school or doing grocery shopping are just a few of the many typical household-tasks a woman takes on every day.
