Introduction
Sexism is the ideology that maintains that one sex is inherently inferior to the other. Sexism or discrimination based on gender has been a social issue for many years; it is the ideology that one sex is superior or inferior to the other. Sexism does not only affect females, but also males. Men are very often victimized by social stereotypes and norms based on gender expectations. Sexism has appears in almost all social institutions including family, the media, religion, sports, the military, politics, and the government. However, although both genders are affected, men have benefited from sexism the most (Thompson 300-301.)
Sexism is much like racism in a sense that it is the unequal treatment of individuals based on an ascribed characteristic; in this case, their gender. Sexism is directly related to patriarchy, the system in which males dominate females in most spheres of life (Thompson 300-301.)
Sexism can have many negative impacts on the way women view themselves, research was conducted and it showed that when exposed to modern sexism, women expressed negative self-directed emotions. Modern sexism exposure also resulted in stereotypical self-presentation, where in contrast, women who were exposed to old-fashioned sexism displayed less self-defeating behavior. This research concluded that women were more likely to stand up and defend themselves against the old-fashioned gender stereotypes, but let the modern day expectations defeat them (Ellemers & Barreto, 2009).
Society stereotypes women in almost all social situations, including in the family, media, and the workplace. Women are often regarded as being in, “Second place” behind men. However, these stereotypes are not typically met by the modern day woman....

At a young age people learned sexist ways and how to say things, but they were never told that it was sexist. But as you grow older that’s all you hear is, it’s not mail man is mail deliver or lunch lady it is actually the food server. There are also people that have been taught to not be sexist, those people tend not to be corrected that often. And one of the things that get people the most, is when people think of rolls in society that are given to those men and women. You can also see all forms of sexism being used at school, in sports, or at a job, and also toward both men and women of both past and present and how it is also a big deal in other countries.
The term sexism seems like a simple word, but it causes controversy and chaos amongst a gender based society. Sexism all over the world puts a lid on what it means to have equality, freedom, and humanity, which tampers with self-esteem. Tony Porter, a motivational speaker perfectly depicts how effective sexism is and how it harbors domestic violence as well as how the “man box” plays a huge role in sexism. Also, Sheryl Wudunn another motivational speaker as well ties in how sexism interferes with the female population.
Sexism in the Workplace Gender Roles Children learn from their parents and society the concept of "feminine" and "masculine." Much of these conceptions are not biological at all, but cultural. The way we tend to think about men and women and their gender roles in society constitutes the prevailing paradigm that influences our thinking. Riane Eisler points out that the prevailing paradigm makes it difficult for us to properly analyze the roles of men and women in prehistory. "We have a cultural bias that we bring to the effort and that colors our decision-making processes.
As a young female, I have faced my fair share of sexism. It manifests itself in double standards, harassment, and assumed inferiority. Sexism affects everyone. It inhibits us all from creating an efficient and equal environment. Women everywhere face the struggle to be seen as equals. Unfortunately,
Sexism has been around for a long time and it’s still going on today. You see sexism in almost anything, where they get treated unfairly or being degraded by a man or society. One of the biggest places that affects woman in sexism would be in the work force. Woman have been portrayed as inferior inside and outside the house hold. The work force is defined by social structures from patriarchal perspectives. Elimination of gender roles, equal job opportunities and needs a sense of justice. This is America, “Land of the Free; Home of the sexism.”
Sexism means, “prejudice or discrimination based on sex.” It is a term used to segregate a large group of individuals based on their gender. This ideology stems from traditional household roles. The male would be named head of household and women as housewives. Women would do all the house cleaning, raise the children, and serve the husband. Nowadays, women have evolved in their societal roles. Females have entered the workforce as doctors, lawyers, professors, etc. They contribute to the economy and count in the labor participation rate. Although women have made enormous steps to changing what it means to be a female, something that has always stuck was the covert practice of sexism. This means that instead of sexism being openly imposed on women, it is now disguised in the system, particularly the workforce. Women are being penalized

Sexism is the prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex. It is rooted in the belief that one sex is naturally superior to the other, especially men to women. This attitude of male superiority is based on beliefs in traditional gender roles on how men and women should behave.
When most people hear the term Sexism they think of discrimination aganist women. Sexism refers to a social structure that gives advantages to men, relegatng women to subservient positions(Bakanic, V 2006). As a woman I have been fournate that I have been subjected to this type of treatment. Although sexism mostly happens to women it can happen to men as well. Just as sexual harassment can happen to men so can sexism. It may not be widely admitte dor reported but it is possible it has. I questioned my brother whether he has ever faced sexism or had been discriminated aganist becuase of his gender. He said he had not. But he did mention that his boss, her boss, and the CEO of the company were all females. Did he think this has something to
“Sexism, like racism, goes with us into the next century. I see class warfare as overshadowing both,” stated Constance Baker Motley, a civil rights activist (Constance Baker Motley). The world has experienced gender inequality for countless years. Sexism can be directed at both men and women. However, most commonly women are seen as inferior to the superior male population. Webster’s New World College Dictionary describes sexism as “discrimination against people on the basis of sex; specifically prejudicial stereotyping of women” (Agnes, pg. 1,314). Over the years equality between genders has improved; however, many people still face the effects of sexism.
tend to earn less than white men at the start their careers, basing future pay off past pay, the thinking goes, Gentlemen, imagine life for one second. Imagine life not making an equal dollar to a woman. Imagine looking provocative in your required business attire no matter how modest it is. Imagine not being worth the pay. Imagine your boss hiring you because you are cheaper to pay. Imagine being asked to leave the job you have had for quite some time all because you have a child now, and you should be home taking care of him or her instead. Imagine being told that work was never meant for you. You do not belong in the workplace. Your job is meant for a woman, a man could never handle it. Now stop imagining and reflect
Sexism also called gender discrimination is prejudice or discrimination based on a person's sex or gender. Sexism affects both men and women, but primarily women. It has been linked to stereotypes and gender roles, and may include the belief that one sex or gender is intrinsically superior to another. Extreme sexism may foster sexual harassment, rape and other forms of sexual violence. I want to start at the bottom of this whole problem. Sexism appeared in history as well. It was one of the earliest forms of violence directed towards all women , not just wives, because of they sex. In 6th century , bishops debated whether a women is really human at all. Estimated that nine milion women were tortured and burntat the stake. In the 1970s,
The discrimination among men and women have left our society divide and vulnerable, unable to cooperate with each other based on the gender roles that we set for ourselves. Sexism is a conflict that is laughed upon and brushed away, not with a second thought. It's a problem that needs to seen by the public eye: to be taken seriously without a second thought. The prejudice against both men and women withholds us from exploring our own natural abilities. Blinded by the stereotypes, people tend to live their lives based on the other people thoughts and idea, unable to see what they are capable of. Sexism is a conflict that is a potential threat to our social society and ,we as the people of the society, needs to find a resolution to this problem.
Sexism runs deeply within the roots of society, remaining hidden while the effects of it remain blatant; sexism is not quite as obviously relevant as in years past, yet it still impassions modern feminists—and with good reason. Women are patronized and sexualized on a daytoday basis, enduring catcalls, sexual assault threats, physical and emotional abuse, and unfair degradation and humiliation from men. While sexism seems to many an issue of the past, it plays a large role in modern society and its attributes, such as the beauty industry, education, workforce, and even politics; it is
From the time we are born, we are taught sexist ideas by various people, whether it is our parents, friends, or society. Some people choose to openly express their ideas about the roles of men and women while others do not. Sexism is an attitude or behavior based on traditional stereotypes of gender roles. Not everyone is conscious of his or her sexist remarks and comments. For example, someone saying “Let the girls clean,” or “ It’s a man’s job to take out the trash.” Citizens should be free to express themselves without someone trying to force sexist norms. By saying these things, they are unthinkingly communicating sexist ideals to a younger generation. Sexism also has a substantial impact in school and the workplace. Sexism is present in every part of life, but it is our job to put an end to the stereotypes.
