There are several skills listed under interpersonal skills. It is important for one to develop good interpersonal skills as it

helps one to make informed decisions and create a good social relationship with people around them. A person’s

professionalism in life can partly be judged through interpersonal skills. It is one of the major skills required to survive

through this living habitat. According to written assignment unit 6, some of the questions listed under interpersonal skills

are listening, assertiveness, negotiation, feedback, persuasion, interviewing and coaching.

Listening

Listening is hearing someone’s state of mind and thoughts. One listens to another person and acknowledges that they are

According to Harvey Deutschendorf, there are five ways to improve our listening

skills. They are to be fully in the moment, put ourselves in their shoes, pick up key points and let the speaker know we did,

practise active listening and develop curiosity, an open mind and a desire for continuous growth.

Assertiveness

Assertiveness is having a high self-confidence and according to Skills You Need (N.D), it is standing up for someone in a

positive manner without being aggressive. It is also a skill that helps one to interpret their thought of ideas without

harming anyone’s feeling. This skill is widely practised by many professionals in the business industry, as interpreting their

ideas without causing any misunderstanding among the co-workers states the level of professionalism. There are four ways

Persuasion

Since our youth days, most of us learn to persuade our friends to the playground with us or urge our friends to join the

outdoor activities. Persuasion is a skill where one influences another body towards some event. Persuasive skill is adopted

by high management levels in the business field to persuade customers from buying the company’s products and services.

Tom Watson (2010) shared us his 5 tips to improve our persuasion skills in his article. They are be the first to give, do not

offer too many choices, argue against self-interest, highlight the losses one could be making by not choosing the product

and make people feel as if they have already made progress toward a goal.
