Singa the lion’s sudden resignation sparked off many debate amongst Singaporean. The resignation also results in bombardment of rude accusation that once again proves an increasingly angry and disagreeable society.
National Courtesy Movement have been existing in Singapore for over thirty years, back when mascot meant a lot, Singa also exist since the movement’s beginning alongside with other mascot such as Smiley the squirrel that promotes saving. Back then, it is widely acclaimed, every child should have recognized the mascot and their campaign. The period of time whereby courtesy campaign thrives and many started to value being courteous as a virtue, the heyday of the campaign.
Now Singa had chosen to quit as a mascot, what should happen to the near future for Singapore Kindness Movement? What approach should we used to encourage a more vibrant and courteous Singapore? As such I would put forth some opinion on the topic. Now, with the advancement of technology, we could actually take on the wave of technology, the Internet and media, to cultivate the seeds of courtesy. For example, advertisement on the multi-media sites such as internet, television broadcasting and even on the radio. It may exist as a form of short catchy phrase, a short TV series, or a hilarious talk show. It may also be placed on posters with effort of our mass transport provider, SMRT and SBS, or exist as comic strips in newspaper and magazines to slowly bring us to realization that such simple act of courtesy such as giving up seats for those in needs actually means a lot to them.
However, advertisement act as a gentle reminder to our fellow Singaporean to constantly be courteous. Therefore, to make courtesy a second nature to Singaporean the seed of cour...

...l relationship problem. This would ensure that everybody would respect one other and think for others. With courtesy being brought into the workplace, other benefits apart from basic respect and courtesy may be harvested as the fruit of success. A huge sum of fund would be pumped in for the execution of the plan to build a courteous society in Singapore thus it should take a longer time to allow all of this to actually go pass the planning stage let alone the execution of such massive plan.
Given that the government allows such courteous campaign to be more active, we may anticipate to see a huge change to Singapore, a huge positive change for society to be more courteous to each other. No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. (Aesop, 2013) We must believe that no matter what small gestures we make, it will make a differences in the lives of others.
“Making a Difference” by June Callwood is an expository essay created to inspire the reader to make a change in the world around them, and to stand up for what they believe in. By just doing simple, positive things, people can make a huge impact on their lives and the lives of people around them. June Callwood, author of “Making a Difference”, changes the way many people see the world by describing scientific research and telling the stories of people who performed small, random acts of kindness that made a huge difference in people’s attitudes and the community around them.
“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see” – Mark Twain.
“Sometimes it 's easy to walk by because we know we can 't change someone 's whole life in a single afternoon. But what we fail to realize it that simple kindness can go a long way toward encouraging someone who is stuck in a desolate place.” ~ Mike Yankoski
"Each contact with a human being is so rare, so precious, one should preserve it."(Anais Nin). This means that every person one comes in contact with has an influence on his life. One should never forget the people who go out of their way to be nice to them.
The virtue of kindness is not meek it is not niceness. Kindness holds firm to its foundation and values, but it does it in a way that is gentle. Kindness is not naïve, it is wise and discerning (Corey, 211). People confuse being nice as kindness because on the outside both are soft. The inside is what shows the difference. Niceness has no substance, it will go wherever society takes it. Kindness is different, it has a firm, solid center (Corey xv). The components of soft edges and firm centers make kindness warm and inviting and yet it remains deeply rooted to its core beliefs.
From analyzing the data, the English teacher’s utterances which are classified as using positive politeness strategy are presented as the followings.
Small acts like opening doors or holding elevators for people can occur so frequently in our daily life. Australians are accustomed to thanking for even the slightest of positive gestures, thus Australians are constantly and unknowingly damaging their own negative face multiple times every day. The above mentioned speech event is one typical of Australian culture, and commonly occurs in Australian society. In many cultures, doing something they are paid to do, or doing something considered courteous that makes them look like a more decent person, does not merit a thanks (Hassall, 2001).
... and that everyone matters. Our children's future and success will be enhanced by the use of appropriate behavior. Let us create an environment in our homes, schools, and churches where manners are taught and valued so that every child feels safe and becomes all they were created to be. A quote by William Arthur Ward makes people wonder whether they have been polite and good-mannered during the day: "God gave you a gift of 86, 400 seconds today. Have you used one to say thank you?"
The last was the welcoming of the education. In the early days of Singapore, the country was doing a lot of manufacturing and assembling goods. This particular industry grew stagnant around 1960’s at around 12% of the GDP. Also during this time the post-war baby boom and free immigration policies resulted in a population growth of around 4.4% annually and that got paired with an unemployment rate that grew to 9.2% around 1966. This made the government realize that rising unemployment rate was a problem that needed solving urgently. Because of the lack of resources, the government also knew that human capital was going to be its biggest resource and thus in order to shift to an export economy an education system had to be put in place.
A man even went to publicly slap Amos Yee in the face. Amos Yee was arrested and charged in court for his sensitive comments about Christianity. In Singapore, to maintain a multicultural society, the government has strictly prohibited offensive remarks towards other race and religion. According to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, he states that Singapore will not hesitate to act firmly if need, because if conflict erupts, it will result in a grave damage to our social fabric. (Mr Lee Hsien Loong, 2015).
We too have given our suggestions. However, every policy comes with its own limitations. Not everyone may be convinced alike. With larger monetary incentives comes greater tax on the citizens. The effects of the policies too cannot be seen immediately and the government itself could improve ways to measure the effectiveness of every policy. But such long term measures are vital, so that the root cause of the problem can be solved, for Singapore to have a sustainable population. Short-term solutions are necessary for immediate change, but the main goal in mind should be to focus efforts on increasing fertility rate to replacement level of 2.1.

As a first step in cherishing harmony, people should mingle and promote understanding between races. In that case, parents should always apply the values of solidarity in their kids since tender age. Children are encouraged to communicate with neighbors of different races and parents are also encouraged to bring their children to a neighbor's house during the holiday or celebration. In that way, parents can be the role models to their children and enable them to appreciate the privilege of Malaysian society comprising various races and
