Laws of Life "Each contact with a human being is so rare, so precious, one should preserve it."(Anais Nin). This means that every person one comes in contact with has an influence on his life. One should never forget the people who go out of their way to be nice to them. Influences others have on my life are the most important details of my life. There have been many influences on my life, three of which stand out the most, my laws of life. One influence on my life is people. Miss Haferman is a person who has had a very great influence on my life. She was my first grade teacher. She was the most caring and dedicated teacher I ever had and she respected every student as an individual. On the other hand, she had a very negative influence on my life. She is the person who told me there was no Santa Clause, which ruined Christmas for me for a very long time. Another person who has had a great influence on my life is Mr. Robinson. He was my first band teacher. He is the person who convinced me to join band, which helped me make many great friends and also made school fun for me. He also taught me how to play the clarinet. Now, I love playing the clarinet and it could even get me a scolarship for college. Another influence on my life is incidents. Moving to Tennessee was an incident that was very influential on my life. One way it was influential was losing all my old friends whom I had known my whole life. They were a big part of my life and I still regret ever losing touch with them. Moving to Tennessee was also influential because I had to make new friends, and I became less shy and more outgoing. My friends in Tennessee and my friends in Illinois are very different, but they are all very great people. Another influential incident in my life is going to FCHS. Going to FCHS also caused me to lose some of my friends. Even though I lost those friends, I made many friends who are really nice. I also learned alot about who my real friends are. Society has also had a great influence on my life. Princess Diana had a great influence on my life. One of the great things she did that influenced my life was when she auctioned seventy-nine of her dresses and donated the money to charity.
Many things have helped to shape my identity to make me the person I am. The most influential thing that has shaped me is my culture. One of the biggest pieces of my culture that has done this is my participation in sports. Out of the sports I play, high school soccer has shaped me the most. Soccer in high school shaped my identity by making me more social, a leader, and open minded about diversity.
Jackson was always ready to fight for his country. When he was young he went to train at West Point to become a soldier and leader. He wasn’t as bright as some of the other students, but he worked hard pushing to succeed. In the end he ended up 17th in his class, giving him the chance to become 2nd Lieutenant of Artillery in the Mexican War. He lived through the war with no problems. He was admired by the army for his courage, he never backed down. After the Mexican War he went to VMI (Virginia Military Institute) to teach. He had two classes, Natural & Experimental Philosophy and Artillery tactics. He was no professor but a great artillery instructor.
...dication to his Lord though. General Hill had called Jackson “that crazy old Presbyterian fool” and wanted to no longer be apart of Jackson’s command. Jackson was a very strong believer and didn’t care who it was who denied his God. Jackson knew the Lord was his savior and would not let anyone tell him different.
How Influence Can Change a Person As someone once said…. “Sometimes people come into your life for a moment, a day, or a lifetime. It matters not the time they spent with you but how they impacted your life in that time.” – Unknown.
Andrew Jackson also known as, “The people’s choice,” was a self made man. He represented the South and the Western frontier expansionism. He was a strong military leader, a superior Court judge, and an Indian fighter. Jackson represented the common man. The United States of America benefitted greatly from the actions of Andrew Jackson.
George W. Bush’s “9/11 Address to the Nation” is a speech in which he talks about the catastrophic event on September eleventh, 2001. Two airplanes crash into the Twin Towers in New York City on this day, shocking the entire world. He addresses this speech to the people of America on the night of the disastrous event, to let the people of the United States know what is going on. After the Mexican-American war he accepted a teaching job at Virginia Military Institute. While some say his teaching was unorthodox, it is suggested that it came from his hard working and strict upbringing. Yet he was unsuccessfully petitioned to leave his post as a teacher of philosophy. Virginia Military Institute recently stated that though Mr. Jackson’s way of teaching was unwanted and unappreciated at the time his works are now invaluable to the institute.
Suzanna Berne’s article “Where Nothing Says Everything” discusses the sequence of events that Berne encounters as she attempts to pay her respects to the 9/11 tragedy. From the elements within her writing, Berne demonstrates the significant meaning of the World Trade Center’s absence. It is from her personal experience and play on words that she is able to accurately express her thesis. Within her piece, Suzanna Berne comes to the conclusion that the impact of 9/11 on the American people forces them to unite in order to overcome the loss of the World Trade Center along with the people who went down with it.
Jesse Jackson is a famous Civil Rights leader, he’s often considered to be one of the greatest. His believe is that African Americans should have more political power. Jackson fought for the power by being the second African American to run for President. He was the first African-American to be a candidate in a presidential election. September 11th, 2001 is one of the worst days in the United States of America’s history by far. It all began at 8:45am when a stolen airplane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Many people believed that this was...
...luence on my life. I believe that social forces that impact my life are actually quite similar to those that impact my grandmother’s life. Although they differ slightly, these social forces impact her life just as much as they do mine. The only real difference is that she has to attend work while I have to attend school. Despite growing up in a time of undeveloped technology, she is learning how to operate technology because technology is becoming more advanced every day.
My next major influence was my first grade teacher. I remember most of that school year was spent on Martin Luther King Jr. That was the first time I had learned about racism, and what had happened in the past to blacks, amongst others. That school year had a great impact on me and it has changed me ever since to treat all people fairly, no matter what color, sex, intelligence level, social class, etc. This experience has taught me the meaning of democracy, and how to practice it.
This is what could be an example of one of the elements that is slightly less prominent than the others, for the reason that it can vary extremely from person to person. Influence is when members feel that the community they are a part of has a strong influence on them and they are also in return, able to have a strong influence on their community. In the case of the Community Psychology program and its students, I feel that the influence is minimal. This likely has to do with the fact that I am a fairly new member in the community, meaning I haven’t quite reached a point where I feel I am able to influence my community but it certainly has a substantial influence on me. Other students in my community may feel differently, they may be more involved with graduate clubs such as the Community Psychology Club, allowing them to feel that they are
