Before beginning to translate a translator must first go through some primary necessary steps. For the key to translating is to understand source of language and culture of the country. Therefore before a translator can even begin to translate either prose or poetry he must do some research in order to gain the ability to write well in the targeted language. This research includes many hours of research in many libraries of dictionaries and reference material, including books from a similar time period or from a similar author. When a translator translate poetry he must not only understand the language in order to translate the literal meaning but also communicate to the reader the meaning beyond the literal translation. Some translators prefer put their own view or ideas through form of style into their translations while others try to avoid to in anyway adjust the style of the poet they are translating. Some translators found that the best way to avoid adjusting the style is by rather than assuming different categories of poetry and do each accordingly but find the style of the individual poet and translate accordingly. However other translators for example Paul Goodmen said that translating poetry is not mere reconstituting words my piecemeal imitation but that it must have rhythm and nuances; that the art of the translators is to lead how to mold sentences. To do so the translator must retreat to a simpler tenor of his own style, not to give up his style but rather adjust his style to the style of the author he is translating. The method by which each translators chooses to express the style of the original author are varied but the Preservation of the original style of the poet requires not only craftsmanship of a translator but also the humility of the translator to allow the original style of the poet to come through the text rather than the translator exploiting the story in order to emphasize his preferred

In poetry, it is important to be meticulous of your punctuation. By doing this, the flow of the poem will be clearer and better understood by the reader. Not only is this significant in a writer’s work, but the use of other literary devices, such as description and personification, is also necessary in conveying the thoughts of a poem. There authors, Elise Hempel, Brian Simoneau, and Peter Munro, from the Valparaiso Poetry Review use these literary devices to their advantage to effectively portray the messages of their seasoned poems.
Poetry may be the hardest form of literature to examine, at least for me. After reading some of our assigned poems this semester I was left completely confused, as to not only the authors purpose, but also the relevance and importance of the poem; None ...
In order to appreciate a poem properly, care must be taken to analyze and understand many different facets of the work. Poems are often very complex and require a great deal of thought in order to arrive at the intended meaning. At the very least, three particular items of information must be uncovered during the reading of poetry. An experienced reader of poetry will always determine the identity of the speaker, the occasion of the speech, and the central idea of the poem.
Srinivasa Iyengar, you don’t. Iyengar says, “poetry, by nature, is untranslatable. [A] competent translator can, however, play the good broker between the poet and the reader... and give the intimations of the poet’s sovereign utterance.” But even this seems to suggest that at best, the translator is only a middleman, able to convey the subtleties of the poet’s original work, but not without noted differences. Famous poet Bysse Shelley calls translation of poetry “vain”, saying “it were as wise to cast a violet into a crucible that you might discover the formal principal of its color and odor, as seek to transfuse from one language to another the creations of a poet. The plant must spring again from its seed, or it will bear no
The Billy Collins, in the poem “Introduction to Poetry” renowned professor and writer, explains the teaching poetry’s act. He lists the several methods he would resemble his students to think about poetry.
Poetry is a compact language that expresses complex feelings. To understand the multiple meanings of a poem, readers must examine its words and phrasing from the perspectives of rhythm, sound, images, obvious meaning, and implied meaning. Readers then need to organize responses to the verse into a logical, point-by-point explanation. A good beginning involves asking questions that apply to most poetry.
According to him, it is not necessary to be a poet in order to translate poetry; a good translator can do this task even better than a poet himself. He provides several examples of good translators who are not poets. For instance, Johann Heinrich Voss (1751 – 1826), who translates Homer’s poetry, is a poor poet but an excellent translator. In addition, there are great poets who are also great translators of poetry, such as Johann Christian Friedrich Holderlin (1770–1843) and Stefan Anton George (1868 –1933), both of whom translate Charles Baudelaire’s work with a high degree of skill: “It is not because they are great poets that they are great translators, they are great poets and they are great translators” (de Man 81). The essential difference between the poet and the translator is that the former is chiefly concerned with the meaning that s/he has to express, in order to convey a meaning which does not necessarily relate to language, whereas the latter deals directly with the language.
In this essay we are going to study the translation equivalents and the gaps raised from the non-equivalence at word level; then we will analyze some useful strategies for the translation process.
Within these restraints, diction becomes extremely important, as the poet must choose words that fit these restraints without compromising the meaning that a poet wishes to send. Each word must be assessed based on its meaning and its role in the rhythm and rhyme scheme. William Shakespeare is well-known for this type of writing. In some forms of poetry, particularly in narrative poems, the choice of words is used to tell the reader something about the narrator.
To begin with a brief definition of translation, it can be stated that it is basically transferring the words included in one language to the other by making necessary changes and sticking to the source language taken from either the source text or source speech. With the help of rapid technology and the network among countries, the significance given to translation has become an indispensable part of wide range of business and communication purposes. The source determines whether it will be a job of translators or interpreters. It is important to refer each of them by explaining the differences between them at this point.
their masterpiece. These tools may make it difficult for a reader to understand the full meaning of a poem. Diction can also play a role with problem in understanding poetry. A reader may need to research where the author is from and what year the poem was written in, in order to get the full effect of the poem and the underlying meanings in it.
From the very beginning of human species, literature existed side by side. Human life, in the form of human passions, feelings, loves, sufferings, and human history existed in the literatures. Human legends started with the very stone age, recorded in the stone scripts. It was a human need to communicate the past to the future generations. Poetry, as an art form, has been for many centuries praised, contemplated and has continued to affect man. Man has used poetry to express love and grief, birth and death, innocence and guilt, heaven and hell in a more effective way. In order to achieve such a way of expression the poet does not have any other material at his disposal except language. However in poetry, this language itself, turns out to be the goal of the poet rather than only an instrument for communication. Her/his way of expressing ideas and emotions summarises the poets craftsmanship and creativity. What the poet does is that he/she illustrates and exemplifies how language can be used to achieve the most effective way of expression. Poems deal with universal themes such as love and hate, birth and death, innocence and guilt, heaven and hell, which are familiar to all readers. For this reason, believing in the importance of literature and the contribution of poetry to language teaching and learning, we have decided to use poetry to act as a means to enrich the language awareness of ELT majors.

In fact, Arabic translator may face difficulties in translating the Holy Quran to the English language. The main problem that faces Muslim translators in translation Holy Quran is no equivalent of Islamic terms that lead them to use Communicative translation, For example, Zakah which means (alms giving - زكاة) and Taqwa (piety - تقوى) So the way of translating these terms into English language only gives the close meaning (Ali et al, 2012, p. 588). Additionally, translation of holy texts is difficult because sometimes the translators interpret superficially and biased of choosing the right equivalents (Khosravi, Pourmohammadi, 2016, p. 152). It could be difficult task to translate Islamic expression since it may have non- equivalent words in the English
