When first beginning the course, I was both hesitant and excited. I never had tried a fully simulation-based course, and therefore was looking forward to it. Over the course of project one, I learnt many new skills and techniques in order to communicate at a higher degree of efficiency. In the first task, I learnt how to reach out to a client in a professional manner. In the past, I would not have known to email a client to introduce myself, and therefore this was something that was new to me. Furthermore, I like to consider myself a decent writer of professional emails, so learning about vocabulary was not something I felt I needed to focus on.
One thing that I found challenging at first was that the instructions were quite general; many
Statecraft was very useful for applying and experiencing concepts we learned in class. It was very helpful for understanding the material better because we actually experienced what we were learning instead of just reading about it. Had we not gone through the Statecraft simulation, the class would have been less interesting and less effective.
Attending an NA meeting during finals was one of my smarter decisions, as I procrastinate my work until the very last minute this week. However, in my opinion, going to a meeting was a good type of procrastination compared to other things I could be doing. Instead of going with the same friend this time, I asked a friend who was struggling with a ________ addiction. Not knowing that I was aware of his addiction, I asked him to join so I didn’t have to go alone; and he was more than happy to join me. I was very happy he agreed to join, because hopefully it helps him with his personal addiction, and he continues to return to the meetings.
As I planed to take this class, I thought this course would be like all other general education courses. I believed that it would be of little use to me. However, after attending the first class, my view has changed completely. I applied each and every theory to my life.
This is a reflective essay based on my attendance at a multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting whilst on my two-week placement at a local mental health day hospital. The aim of this essay is to discuss the importance of the multidisciplinary team within the mental health environment and discuss factors that can influence the success or failure of multidisciplinary teams.
I feel like I learned more from my failures in this simulation than if I would have just literally made the same decisions as one of my classmates. I would not have learned much from having a friend succeed for me, but I know that a little help from a friend would have been beneficial. After finishing this simulation, I was a little disappointed with the results. With that being said, I know that I have the potential to do better. I think that this was a great experience for me even though I struggled with the simulation. I learned that I need to review all the possible information before making a decision, not just some of the information I feel to be the most important. I am not a huge fan when it comes to failure, so I think that this experience will help me strive to get better and help me understand the markets more. I know that I want to to be involved in the Agriculture market when I graduate, so I know that I need to expand my decision making abilities and my ability to analyze data. I know that I will have to continue to work for my goals for the future, but I know that I am up for the challenge. I am not the type of person who can just look at a problem and know the answer right away. I honestly might go through this simulation a couple more times just to see if I can improve from my first trial. I will be able to do a better job at gathering all the information I need to make the best
The knowledge I am getting from this course is a real-world skill. This course opened my eyes more than I expected. In course goal assignment, I wrote my all my expectation from this course this
...ew it in different perspectives. The outcomes were surprisingly insightful and greatly enhance my contribution towards the development of our business plan. It allows me to look back on what has been done and learned from what did or did not work out. In other words, it helped me to see both the positivity as well as the negativity in our ideas and thus stimulate improvements. This assignment also cultivated a sense of team spirit through teamwork and boost creativity through the development of thinking outside the box. Therefore, this assignment has definitely aid my knowledge in developing skills such as writing up comprehensive critical reflection and evaluating the risks of certain business ideas. Aside from that, I have also managed to deal with people from different cultural background through teamwork and develop unique business ideas and market strategies.
In the end, this class has really opened my eyes to everything that is out there to supplement my teaching and my students learning. I am extremely happy that this class did not teach me how to use Microsoft Office , but I do wish that we could have had the opportunity to work more with the material rather than merely reading about the material. The Multimodal Task definitely allowed us to configure a lesson using and working with technology, but if we had more time, I wish we could have done more than one task to accomplish such goals.
From the beginning, where we were unfamiliar with each other and became a team, my team and I had started to learn each other name and getting to know each other. Throughout each meeting, we slowly start to feel more comfortable and open minded with each other. Not only are we getting familiar with each other, each meeting that was held we progress of becoming an effective team member, we learn our strengths and weaknesses of everyone. During the meetings, we learn many concepts from the textbook, “Communicating in Small Groups: Principles and Practices” by Steven A. Beebe and John T. Masterson. We were able to learn different types of concept in the textbook and utilized it as a team to complete certain tasks. The three concepts that impacted my team and I are human
I have learned several valuable things from this project experience. First, it’s okay to not know how to do something right away. Ask, observe and experiment. Doing so will greatly enhance my ability to do it correctly and continue to learn. Second, I learned that this can be an experience in frustration if I always try to not make waves. Sometimes waves need to be made to better the project. And third, watch for similar frustrations with my students and intervene before it gets too serious.
I have chosen to take this elective subject, as there were many cases in my personal life where I failed to negotiate and explain myself properly. After participating in the simulations and listening to the lecture, then I can see where I failed and what I have done wrong before. The theoretical part of the subject was highly beneficial as I could see what should have been done differently; the simulations were also extremely useful because they gave me an opportunity to apply myself and the newly gained knowledge. I can surely say that these approach of learning and then practicing is highly effective, especially when it comes to learning new techniques in my real life negotiations.
This course opened my eyes to the importance of dialogue in ways that I had not previously considered. I did not know in counseling you should only talk 30 percent of the time and that the remaining 70 percent should be the counselee’s time to talk. My typical counseling sessions in the past were about 50/50 dialogue. I thought that the counselee needed my opinion. A majority of my sessions included this amount of dialogue, which I am now understanding was not helpful to those people. Even though several people did have great results due to our sessions, they will looked to me in the future for more answers to various problems. This made the counseling relationship more dependent on my advice rather than them talking out their problem
Through participating in the Leadership and Team Simulation: Everest, I have truly learned the importance of planning, leading, organizing, and controlling. My role for the simulation was Team Leader; it was my responsibility to ensure that all decisions made were the best for the team. While I have always directly applied myself positions of leadership, the simulation taught me the importance of being receptive of feedback from team members, when working towards a common goal. Although I felt I was successful at having my group communicate in an open and effective manner, we failed the simulation.
... projects. These projects have left me with a deep impression of how the real world situation is going to be like. Hence, I feel fortunate to have taken this module.
- coming into this program after being away from school for 7 years was a bit intimidating for me. I didn’t know what to expect or if I could really do it. Mastery helped ease all of that doubt and uncertainty that I was feeling.
