the exact word I used “I will expect a professional skill from this course: professional writing skills, new communication skills, and real-world experience.” Each week after I finished the reading, reading response assignment, and the essay assignments; I vividly see all the course goals that designed on the course objective. All the lectures and the assignments we did so far taught me a communication skill with a specific audience. The communication could be a written technical document or presentation. The strategies are not working for me is the writing center help. I want to go there every week to get help for each assignment, but so far I went couple times because of my hectic schedule. The maximum help they allow is one hour that is not enough for me because of my language limitation. I wish there is an international student-helping center to get more help. I acquired a researching, planning, revising, and writing technical document knowledge and skill with good definition and description. For example in the job packet assignment I learned the use of master cover letter and resume. Before this assignment, I usually edit few things and submit the resume. However, after the lecture and the assignment I learned how the human resources evaluate cover letter and resume. Also the reading response and the class lecture gave a skill how to provide information ethics, and collaborating with others in professional work environments. Since I am standing in front of a vast number of people in the remainder semester of this course; I would like to get more skill on oral and prepared presentation. I do not have strength as a writer I like to develop my writing skill in the remainder of the semester.
Assignment 3A reflective letter allowed me to express how the process went when writing my research paper. Writing this letter also allowed me to know what could have been done differently when writing the research essay and future assignments. Another assignment that allowed me to reflect on my writing process over time was the Literary Narrative. For this assignment I created a poem about my reading and writing process from the age three years old until now. I enjoyed this assignment and was able to share my creative writing style while expressing how much I value reading and writing
Reflective writing is a term which based on assignments when you have to think about your own thinking. There are many different kinds of topics for reflective writing. The main point of the topic is that it should be related to your own experience, emotions, thoughts and feelings. You have to describe something in your own words.
Ernest Hemingway portrays many of his views through the characters in his stories. Hemingway has found a way to deliver many different themes in his writing. He includes personal experiences, thoughts and opinions to convey his way of thinking to the reader. Hemingway's writing can be interpreted in many ways, but as countless readers have observed, Ernest Hemingway is a sexist. Hemingway is viewed as a sexist because of the way he writes about women. His writing makes the reader believe that Hemingway has a strong dislike for women. Both "Hills like White Elephants" by Ernest Hemingway and "A Clean Well-Lighted Place" represent Hemingway's view on male's dominance over women and that women are the cause of men's misery.
Anyone who is doing any type of writing piece has a process. They may not know it but it is there and it exists. It is one’s approach to their piece and how they go about accomplishing it. It has to do with how you write it, how many drafts you do, as well as your revision process if you even have one. My writing process however has room for improvement. A summation of my writing process consist of heavy planning, one draft, and little revisions. I am sitting in my bed, thinking about my process of writing as I am trying to go through it. It seems the more I think about it, the less I understand it. When I am writing, I don’t think. Which I know, sounds bad. But, I spend every single moment of every single day over thinking, over analyzing, and over assuming every aspect of my life. When I’m writing, I’m free from that for just a little bit. Until of course, my hands stop typing or the pencil (no pens- never pens) stops moving, then I’m right back on the carousel that is my brain. Have you ever done something and felt so confident about it and thought that you would do well but it turns out that, but it ends up that the result you would get is not what you got? I did I actually had to go through the whole process of getting better, I learned to grow gradually as a writer. When I first started writing wrote I earned As and Bs. Then I started the started the summer bridge program here at Washington Adventist University and found out that writing in High School is a lot different from college. It is even harder to write an essay because you have to be sure to add in enough details based on the topic and right when you think you are done you must check on grammarly to revise your essay and make sure you check your work. Since English is my second language, my writing is growing slow. I took many ISL classes in Jefferson Community and Technical College to improve my English and writing. I took English 101, and 102. I leaned how to write MLA format essays. I learned how to in English (W 290) class. In this course I learned how to write APA format essays. During this class, I took this year I have not only grown as a student and a writer, but as a person as well. I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself “what have I learned this semester?” and “what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?”. Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self-evaluation, developing a plan to learn new skills.
Throughout my entire time here at Shawnee State, becoming a more experienced writer has been a somewhat difficult task to get through and complete. This semester has been difficult for me. There has been many challenges introduced to me, but somehow where overcame so far. This is my journey through English 0096, from my first semester at Shawnee State University.
This year, I've written and learned many new topics. I've improved in my writing and reading skills. Every year, writing becomes harder to understand and requires more focus. I have enjoyed a few writing assignments, such as the Wes Moore book project. It was fun and creative, I could draw, color, and do it my way. Although, I have trouble writing essays, I think I should work on that more. My grammar and punctuation also needs to improve. My writing has gotten some what better and my reading is good. I like fiction books that deal with science and fantasy. These are my favorite type of books. So far I've done some writing pieces that required to be written in different modes such as, argumentative me narrative. This is my midyear reflection
I feel as though this class has helped me become a more polished and professional writer. When I first entered English 110, I was extremely unsure and lacked confidence in my writing. I believe that this point can be partly attributed to the fact that I had always had my instructors holding my hand and helping me through the writing process in high school. My senior English teacher always reminded us that college would be much more challenging than her class was and then she would go on to tell us stories of professors who gave out zeros for tiny oversights within a paper. As far back as completing our first reflections towards this module, I have been able to see the benefits of reflective academic pieces as well as keeping an e-portfolio in order look back on our first year at Writtle. This e-portfolio has enabled me to make detailed evaluations of my current strengths and weaknesses in each particular subjects, it has also allowed me to begin in developing a professional display whereby all my work is collated for future employers. Taking a creative writing class was a good way for me to express my thoughts and feelings onto paper, as well as read my other classmates stories. Reading stories created by other people lead me into their mind brain to experience what type of writer they were, it was an overall exquisite class. I believe that every person has a way of expressing who they are through writing stories of their own, fiction is the best way to express your creative imagination. This class that I took for two years helped me become a better writer and helped me understand the types of writers we have.
While reading Chapter 3, a passage that spoke to me was the portion on creating a voice to match your purpose, audience, and genre. I have issues with this. Due in part to the way I picture my words when I write or type them. I tend to try to speak to people the same way I would in person. While I see nothing wrong with this, it makes it hard for me to write about certain topics. I could write all day about how to train a dog or the steps to giving a tattoo, but would have issues writing about my views on a passage from an Edgar Allen Poe book or what my thoughts are on the educational system in America. My thoughts and views come out in a slang type style and most likely not educated at all. This does not make me incompetent or say that
