One of the most influential characteristics of a country is its form of government. The influence of the government has a drastic effect on the people. America is known for having a Democracy for its government.A Democracy is a form of government in which the people have the power to directly influence the governing body. A Republic is a form of government in which everything is a public matter. which, means there are no private sectors.As one may see there is a multitude of similarities and differences between a Democracy and a Republic A strong similarity between America and Gilead would be the gender hierarchy comparing the two settings. This flexibility of freedom highlights the common ground than America and Gilead, has on certain aspects of the government, as well as the differences that can be seen in the imagery of the book and daily life in America.
The gender hierarchy in America and Gilead is based on rich men having the power and nearly all women have no actual influence. Gender hierarchy is present all throughout America's workplace and professional sports. There has not been a single female owner in professional sports unless you count the women married to one. Also, there has never been a female president."Did you know that in 2016 women working full-time in the United States typically were paid just 80% of what mineral days that got like 20%" (www.aauw.org)? This quote shows that many jobs today women are only paid a fraction of what men are in an equal work
