The Mongols were an empire that expanded from east Europe to east Asia. It was the largest empire by square miles in all of history. They were able to conquer 4,860,000 square miles. Genghis Khan, the most famous leader of the Mongols, united the Mongol Empire with his great military success. The Mongols should be remembered as the greatest empire in history because of their fighting techniques, brutality, and government. The Mongols' brutality is one of the reasons they were so dominant, making them unstoppable. An example of the Mongols' brutality, said by Ata-Malik Juvanini in 1261, was, “They severed the heads of the slain from their bodies and heaped them up in piles” (Document 3). Lastly, the Mongols’ government plays a huge role in their ability to be dominant and great. Through their fighting techniques, brutality, and government they were able to conquer 4,860,000 square miles of territory (Document 1). The Mongol Empire had the most land of any empire in history. This territory expanded from East Europe all the way to East Asia. Once the Mongols conquered a place, they boosted the economy and helped in general. An example of this said by Charles J. Halperin in 1985 is, “The Mongol Empire made significant contributions to the political institutions, economic development, and cultural diversity of many lands” (Document 6). All this not only improved the cities they conquered, but more importantly, the empire too. They were also very open to other religions in the government. Even though the Mongols believed in one god, they were open to learning about it. This was well spoken by William of Rubruck in 1955 when he said, “We Mongols believe that there is but one God, by whom we live and by whom we die and towards him have an upright heart.
