Whenever I think of school I think of textbooks, notebooks, and pencils. However, existing in this world as it progresses each day, new objects are becoming customary. Schools all over the globe are now teaching student with technology. Aswe all know this is a widely controversial topic. I believe that technology should be integrated in schools because it allows students to learn and collaborate with one another and teachers efficiently, however, the personal use of technology in schools should be limited for its distractive features, and its lack of thinking that it can entail. Being a 10th grade high schools student I can testify that technology has tremendously benefited myself, and my peers. There has been countless times I have been at home, struggling to complete an assignment that is due the following day. As we all know, teachers are not available to assist us all the time. Thanks to technology, like computers or cell phones, I am able to consult with other students who also have received this assignment for help. We are able to send pictures of steps on how to complete a problem, or directly edit one another´s papers. These technological features allow us to use our peers to learn and collaborate effectively. As a student, I believe that a feature as helpful as this is too valuable to …show more content…
This becomes a wider issue when students begin to pull out cell phones in the middle of class. Cue the distractions. Speaking from a high school student’s perspective, I can say that as much as I love having my phone with me at all times, it is definitely a distraction during class. There is always a number of times, during a lesson or a presentation, where I find my attention drifting off of the lecture, and towards my cell phone. As an individual who usually has a strong attention span, I can speak on behalf of my peers when I say that allowing personal technology would only be a distraction to students. Due to this fact, it is my belief that personal technology should be limited because it is distractive, and can cripple the learning ability of our
In this text, the author explores the role that technology currently plays in schools and in education in general, as well as future consequences that will occur depending on whether society continues to insist on a type of education that is relatively lacking in technology or decides to embrace the options available whole-heartedly. There are both gains...
In one’s lifetime, he or she will see the world change; right now, the world is constantly changing due to advancements in technology. Older generations feel that by the time they learn and understand one type of technology, a newer, better model comes out. The newer generations, Millennials and Boomlets, are constantly adapting and learning with the new technology. This fast changing technology will change the way that they attain jobs and how they will work in the workforce. Because of this change in technology affecting the entire world, it is affecting the education system as well. Students have seen technology implemented into the classroom with smart boards, calculators that can solve any problem, tablets, and computers. Still,
As technology is catching on human existence and becoming an increasingly significant part of people’s lives, contrasting discussions upon how much it should be present -especially in delicate topics as education- are emerging across the nation. Some argue that technology is fundamental for connections within the school, but its benefits are being challenged by the view of many who consider it a menace to the learning of most students, as it constitutes a distraction, a source of corrupt contents and a danger to the clear processing of reality. Cons of having technology in schools undeniably win its pros, and for this reason it is fundamental for educators to carefully ponder whether they should allow their students to access it at the moment
Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).
Technology forms the most vital element of life in the world today. Every aspect of our lives is dominated by technology and its importance in our lives is indispensable. One of the outstanding facts about technology use in schools is its controversial nature. There is no common agreement by stakeholders in technology and educations sectors about the use of technology in schools. There are two different factions, one supporting use of technology as a positive aspect, while the other faction disagrees, citing the detrimental effects of technology in students. However, the use of technology in classrooms catering for children continues to increase, as education develops more interesting ways of enhan...
With the rapid growth of technology in America’s society today, the use of computers in school classrooms has increased tremendously—an action that certainly has become beneficial to students, educators, and parents. The use of computers has positively skyrocketed over the past ten years. Not only are computers utilized daily in large companies across the world, but the everyday use in classrooms has also become prevalent. Using modern technology to assist school instructors with his or her daily lessons should definitely be regarded as a positive, acceptable method of instruction and not definitely does not prohibit students from understanding or critical thinking.
Technology can help students learn better by keeping them better involved or forcing them to stay on task. Teachers can use certain programs to find out what a student’s weaknesses are and aim at them to improve and make their weaknesses strengths. Software can also be used to tell parents how their student is doing in class and let them know what they need to improve on or if they are missing class. Parents can then take needed action to help better their child and the child’s future. Online classes can now be taken to earn credit hours that are not taught at a school.
Image a school with laptops available to each student to complete their class notes, teachers who are able to help their students through the screens of their computer, children who are excited to learn about numbers with the help of cute, animated characters. With the endless advancement of today’s technology, schools across the world have begun integrating various technology into their curriculum. These devices have the potential to greatly impact students in their learning. When a school opts to use technology in a school setting, the most important factors they should take into consideration are the benefits of using technological devices, the effectiveness of technology used
Technology is seen as a new, innovative device that helps out with our regular lives to some, but to others it is seen as a device that simply distracts from the simplicity of life. A large controversy going on right now is on whether or not technology should be incorporated more or less into our schools. Technology should definitely be incorporated more into our schools because it is a useful resource to the students, teachers, and administration. Technology is able to prepare our students for their future career, encourage our students to collaborate with others, and allows students/teachers/administration to share work and documents easily and quickly between each other. So, with all these great reasons, why shouldn’t we incorporate technology
Look around and observe how much technology is in the surrounding area. Chances are there is at least a couple of electronics. Welcome to the age of technology. Technology is used on a daily basis. Students spend hours using technology for school.
Textbooks have seen their fair share of education years, but the world is changing. As the world progresses, technology is advancing. To prepare young minds for the technology immersed future, we must introduce and utilize this resource in schools. The positive results of implementing technology into the schools system shows that electronics should continue to become the predominant resource in k-12 classrooms. Research done has shown electronics to enhance learning and consequently result in better test scores.
My supporting evidence for this claim is that today’s technology allows kids to work as slow or as fast as they want to. Their work could be altered to help them with things they are having difficulty with. Students learn so much better when they are allowed to work at their own pace and not be rushed to finish schoolwork that they don’t understand. (www.teachhub.com) Technology is an important part in today’s kids’ lives.
Teachers who support technology believe it offers much more to their students’ education by implementing a much clearer picture of what they are learning--rather than textbooks which only provide information and elemental review questions. Technology allows students to apply themselves more in school, but teachers throughout the country fear computers/tablets are distracting their students more than anything. While technology offers a fast and efficient way to learning techniques and study tools, students are decreasing their effort in class because the answers to a worksheet are only a couple ‘clicks’ away. Everything they need to know is at the very tip of their fingers. Lawler, an English teacher that teaches at New Trier High School, stresses that his students are processing more than they are actually learning when they use computers.
Technology in education is a touchy subject in the United States. Many parents believe that technology will only hurt their child in future, while some believe that technology will help their child. Parents have to be open and must allow themselves, to see what is happening before they make their decision.
Where technology seems to be taking over, schools may have a bit of technology in them but will not allow to be taken over by technology. I especially will not allow the technology take over.
