Homework is a word that you hear almost every day, and no one likes it. Is being assigned piles upon piles of homework bad for you? Or does it benefit your learning? Too much homework can cause stress and you won’t be able to do much of anything you like doing. Having homework can help you study for a test and get the parent more involved in what their child is learning. Should students have homework or not? First, the pros of being assigned homework. Homework can help you study for a big test. Just a little help with a parent or teacher can help you understand the topic a little more and improve your grade. Also, talking with a parent or teacher can improve social skills or connection with other people. As it states in 5 Reasons Kids Need Homework and 5 Reasons They Don’t, “The first benefit of homework is that it allows students and teachers to work more closely together. They can discuss their assignments or any problems that they are having with parts of their textbooks, before or after classes.” This …show more content…
Being assigned at least one sheet of homework each night will let the student know what has to be done each night, and they will develop a sense of punctuality. Also, parents or teachers could set an incentive for the student. If they hear that they will get candy or a toy if they finish all of their work, they may do their homework when assigned. Now, we have the opposing side. Homework may be argued over that it can develop a sense of responsibility but, it can also cause stress for students. An average 2nd grader only gets one sheet of homework every night or less. This is reasonable at this age, but sometimes teachers can assign one too many and make the child overwhelmed at what they are getting. Also, an overload can encourage cheating. In order to finish in time, they may copy off another student's paper, possibly getting the wrong
I had thought that homework plays a significant role in enrichment and reinforcement of what was taught at school. Not only that, I thought homework also teaches personal responsibilities in preparation for the work world. Now, howerver, I question whether students benefit from homework assignments. Are these unrealistic expectations for students in resource? I do not think so. I understand that these students have other issues to deal with at home and the last thing they need to do is complete some math or English assignment.
According to Marzano and Pickering (2007) in an article titled the Case for and Against Homework, homework can be useful and very insurmountable when employed effectively. “Three import issues are the appropriate use of homework at various grade levels; the optimum amount of time students should spend on homework; and the most effective forms of parent involvement” (Pg. 76).
There should not be homework for students. For starters, homework pushes families further apart from each other. Secondly, homework causes kids to actually do worse on schoolwork and tests. Lastly, homework causes kids to get stressed out and depressed because they have to go home and do homework instead of have there own free time. Those are a few reasons why students should not have homework.
Homework is for suckers. Homework causes stress for students as well as for parents. Homework is extremely demanding and many students are spending far too many hours after school to complete their homework assignments. Although, some students may be able to whiz right through their homework, other students crawl along struggling at a snail’s pace. Consequently, family time is put on the back burner due to the time constraints of homework. Additionally, any extracurricular activities are also put on hold. Homework is nothing more than a scapegoat for teachers so that they can pawn off their due responsibilities on parents and students. Homework should be banned for students Kindergarten through 8th grade because the negative effects do not out weight the benefits that come from homework.
Homework causes stress, lack of sleep and lack of family time but some people disagree with that and say homework is good. Homework advantages are,“ Best management of time, practice skills and they learn to work independently,” (The Good Schools Guide). This quote is true because yes it has its benefits but everything in excess is bad, and maybe homework excess for teachers and parents is not bad but for the students it is.Homework causes lack of sleep among students because some of them sleep at twelve am finishing homework because of so much they leave them. Then the lack of sleep makes students sleepy in the morning because they sleep very late. Also, they do not pay attention to class so their grade go lower and students work harder to get up their grade.Students are already having a lot of work in the eight hours of school they have so why more work after school? Like stated before homework has its benefits but the disadvantages are bigger and more
Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. So, I think that homework is a waste and kids and teens should choose whether they want to do their homework for extra credit and practice or not.
For over the past thirty years homework has been seen as a burden to kids and even families everywhere. Students in high school spend up to three hours doing assigned homework every night,
Even though students need to learn how to manage their time more efficiently, including budgeting your time to complete an assessment, they should not be required to do homework. Homework is a big waste of time and isn't efficient. To begin with, homework is causing insane stress for students today. When you get 30 minutes of homework from each class, that is 3 hours of homework! That leaves you no time for family dinners, game night, hanging out with friends, going to youth group or church, or activities like art, music, soccer, and maybe even feeding the homeless.
Homework is an important aspect in life, and it is used in a multitude of countries. Most of the teachers assign homework on a daily basis, and some only assign homework when it seems to be necessary. Some teachers also make homework as a part of your overall grade, and some teachers rely on their students to put in a total effort. Homework plays an important impact because it is the means of success, and it will determine how prepared you are for any upcoming assessments. Homework is also quality practice and enables the student to succeed more. Homework is more than extra practice. It is an essential resource that teaches students how to be organized and develop good time management skills as well.
In conclusion, we can see that the subject of homework has a lot of different views which makes it complex. We have learned about the advantage and disadvantages of homework and whether or not too much homework is assigned to students. Both sides of the issue are supported with studies, facts and opinions. Therefor your stance on the issue is yours to decide.
Teachers should limit the homework they give a student each night because students don’t have very much time after school so with the homework, teachers currently enforce on students they don’t have very much time to complete other important tasks, another reason is less homework will allow students to have more rest for the following school day due to them staying up late at night trying to finish their assignments, and lastly it will allow stress relief for many students due to homework being one of the leading causes of stress in teens throughout high school.
Students are bombarded with hours of homework every night and it interferes with their lives. They are tired of staying up late at night to finish their homework or a paper that is due the next day. They should not have this workload that they have every night because they also have to live their childhood. Life is too short to be staying up until 11:00 because of schoolwork. Homework is unhealthy for students and it is not academically beneficial for them.
Homework helps students widen their horizon and practice things they need more help on. This way they feel ready for their test. Homework for some can act as a study tool. From this they achieve great success. But sometimes the homework given exceeds normal amounts and throws a wrench in family
In addition, students should be able to have some family time and as well as social time. First, I believe homework develops stress and sleep deprivation. When students get homework it places a lot of pressure on them to do what? There are some students who will have to complete their homework or else they get cruel punishments from their teachers. Research done by an Education Scholar, Denise Pope confirms that too much homework can develop stress by making the students work for hours after school.
Students spend hours doing it, teachers spend hours checking it. Homework is sometimes a burden to teachers and students but still it is necessary. Some people doubt homework's effectiveness, but teachers and researchers agree homework is essential. Homework helps students get better grades in school.
