Homework is a word that you hear almost every day, and no one likes it. Is being assigned piles upon piles of homework bad for you? Or does it benefit your learning? Too much homework can cause stress and you won’t be able to do much of anything you like doing. Having homework can help you study for a test and get the parent more involved in what their child is learning. Should students have homework or not? First, the pros of being assigned homework. Homework can help you study for a big test. Just a little help with a parent or teacher can help you understand the topic a little more and improve your grade. Also, talking with a parent or teacher can improve social skills or connection with other people. As it states in 5 Reasons Kids Need Homework and 5 Reasons They Don’t, “The first benefit of homework is that it allows students and teachers to work more closely together. They can discuss their assignments or any problems that they are having with parts of their textbooks, before or after classes.” This …show more content…

Being assigned at least one sheet of homework each night will let the student know what has to be done each night, and they will develop a sense of punctuality. Also, parents or teachers could set an incentive for the student. If they hear that they will get candy or a toy if they finish all of their work, they may do their homework when assigned. Now, we have the opposing side. Homework may be argued over that it can develop a sense of responsibility but, it can also cause stress for students. An average 2nd grader only gets one sheet of homework every night or less. This is reasonable at this age, but sometimes teachers can assign one too many and make the child overwhelmed at what they are getting. Also, an overload can encourage cheating.
