Teachers should limit the homework they give a student each night because students don’t have very much time after school so with the homework, teachers currently enforce on students they don’t have very much time to complete other important tasks, another reason is less homework will allow students to have more rest for the following school day due to them staying up late at night trying to finish their assignments, and lastly it will allow stress relief for many students due to homework being one of the leading causes of stress in teens throughout high school.

The average amount of sleep that teenagers get is between 7 and 7 ¼ hours. However, they need between 9 and 9 ½ hours (studies show that most teenagers need exactly 9 ¼ hours of sleep). By lessening the amount of homework a higher percentage of students will be able to meet the healthy recommended hours of sleep each night that professionals have advised. Teachers need to better realize how students don’t have as much time for homework as they think whereas most students have many tasks they have to do every day after school. In conclusion, teachers need to lessen the homework load for the average student for multiple benefits not only only for the student but the teacher also with allowing them both to have more time to focus on other tasks out of the classroom, it will allow them to gain more rest to better prepare themselves for the busy following school day and lastly it will greatly decrease the stress homework puts on both the student and teacher by allowing them to put more effort into other tasks outside of the classroom that they already spend most of their day in every day of the week.
On average, high school students receive about 3.5 hours of homework each night and elementary school students are getting about three times the amount that is recommended, which is ten minutes per grade, so 10 minutes for 1st grade and 50 minutes for 5th grade.
