Do you think that student athletes should have to get a 3.0 GPA to participate in their sport? Peter Miller, the vice president of admissions at American International College, has described athletes with solid grades as “less of a headache”. Student athletes should be held accountable for their grades. Along with the fact that student athletes still have to have something if sports don’t work out. Good grades are important, even for athletes. Balancing both school and sports is an important, but not easy, task to accomplish. Many colleges and universities notice when student athletes are able to not only succeed in their sports, but also succeed academically. Getting good grades and excelling in school is highly important. Many coaches look for kids who have good grades for their teams. It is a major key detail in sports to be able to participate at all times and if you have poor grades it's highly unlikely that you are able to participate in a majority of games. Athletes who have bad grades aren't looked at by college coaches, so it's essential to have a standard for high school athletes gpa. Sports may not work for every student athlete, so it's important to have something else. Only around 0.02%-0.03% of high school athletes actually go pro well and a little over 7% are able to play in college. So barely any are able to make a career out of it. Sports aren't a reliable way to get into college, so student athletes should have to maintain good grades. Some school districts have lowered the requirement to a 2.0, which is a C average.
