Academics is taken very serious at every university. It does not matter if you are a regular student or a student athlete, grades are a deciding factor if you get to stay at the school or not. Each university gives student athletes a list of minimum requirements that they must obey by throughout their entire time at the university. Failure to keep up with the requirements will result in loss of scholarship or potentially getting kicked out of the university. One of those requirements include having a grade point average above a 2.0 while some schools require an even higher GPA. Student athletes work hard on the football field and in school. According to the Institute for Diversity and Ethics, 99% of the FBS schools participating in bowl games had at least 50 percent graduation success rate (GSR). …show more content…

After looking over the data, we can see there has been a slight increase from last year stats. In 2015, the academic success of FBS football student’s athletes went from 73% to 75% in 2016. Specifically, there was an academic increase for African Americans student athletes and Caucasian student athletes. The average GSR for African American student athletes is at 68%, up from 66% in 2015 and the average for Caucasians is 87%, up from 85%. While looking at the statistics, Gio and I were amazed on how much higher the academics records were for Caucasians than the African Americans.
