The cars swerved left and right causing My head to smash against the window with force. The car then bounced over the curb then smashing us down making me noxious. finally, “splat.” The squirrels guts splattered everywhere leaving its cute innocent body laying their drowning in his own blood. “Grandpa stop” he slammed on the brakes, and I never got in the car with him again. Within 3 minutes, my grandpa served up a curb and hit a squirrel, and the worst part is he did not realize that he hit the squirrel. Senior citizens have way too many health problems to drive,Their crashes cost money, and They crash a lot. Because senior citizens are a menace to society and should be required to retake their drivers test after 70 years of age.

reason that senior citizens are a menace to society and should be required to retake their drivers test after 70 years of age is there health problems. For example senior citizens have problems regarding their health that can make it challenging for them to drive. For instance as people get older their senses start to go, in particular their hearing and sight. According to the website “Common causes of Vision loss in elderly patients.” “1 and 3 people have extreme vision problems.” so if one and three elderly drives can't see than the rest of the road is unsafe. Another health problem that the elderly tend to have is their reaction time is way slower. To demonstrate, when an old person is driving and there's another person in the middle of the road he will surely get hit. However there are a few seniors that can react in time, but those seniors most likely have joint pains that make it hard to turn the wheel ,or stomp on the brake in time. According to the website called “Senior Driving” “80 percent of people in their 70s suffer from arthritis, crippling inflammation of the joints, which makes turning, flexing and twisting painful.” There for elderly people struggle getting themselves out of life or death situations. In addition to their reaction time being slower they could also have a serious injury that will enable them to drive, for example they could have a heart attack or a stroke. If you have a stroke when driving you will most likely die and their is a good chance you will crash and hurt others. Even after a stroke there are some side effects, for example after a stroke it can affect the ability to speak, think clearly, or control one’s body. It can also cause weakness or paralysis on one side of the body, As a result, a driver may have trouble using the car’s controls, drift across lanes, or be confused by traffic. there for the elderly should retake their test or get off the road. On the other hand the elderly frequently go to the Doctor's office and are checked for eyesight, hearing, and other medical issues so they no better than anyone if their is a problem. My second reason the elderly should renew their license is because their crashes cost money. For instance every time an elderly person crashes they have to pay for the damage, In addition most elderly people are retired and don't have a job, so one crash could put them on the streets. Almost all americans have car insurance and when they crash their rates go up as well as the person they hit. In addition Their crashes waste people's time, and time is money. For instance, say you were driving and you had an important meeting, and now you are sitting in bumper to bumper traffic wasting time and money because their was a crash. Another example is when their are more crashes on the road there are need for more policemen and the policemen need to be paid so it is another waste of money. The last reason it is a waste of money because a old person could hit a telephone pole or a building and it cost a lot of money to replace it. It cost anywhere from 3,000 to 10,000 dollars to replace a telephone pole. So there for the elderly should renew their licences. On the other side the elderly the elderly drive to slow and oftentimes they don't drive at all because they know it's unsafe. Finally, my last reason that the elderly should retake their drivers test after 70 years of age is it is dangerous.
It is dangerous because the elderly drive reckless and when they drive reckless they crash. For example according to the article “Older Adult Drivers” in 2010, there were about 5,149,000 crashes accounted for. If the elderly stopped driving that number would go down by a lot. Another example explaining why the elderly should retake their test is because of the deaths. For Instance According to the article “Older adult drivers” there is an average of 15 older adult deaths by car crash a day. Another example from the article “older adult drivers” is in 2012 more than 5,560 elderly people died in a car crash. My last example for why car crashes are dangerous is the injuries. The elderly are injuring themselves by driving. For example according to the Article “Older Adult Drivers” There are more than 214,000 deaths among the elderly because of their driving, And that's not including the injuries the elderly because among other people when they hit them. In addition there are about 586 injuries among the elderly due to car crashes. So there for elderly drivers are too dangerous. On the side of the elderly, they have the most experience driving so they might crash
less. All in all, senior citizens are a menace to society they should be required to retake their drivers test after 70 years of age, for example they are constantly crashing witch causes injuries, They are wasting money, And they have health problems enabling them to drive,In fact, Their driving skills are atrocious and they should be taken off the road right now. Drunk drivers are not allowed to drive so why should the elderly be able to drive.
I. Introduction A. Should 16 year old teenagers be able to drive? B. “Those who favor raising the driving age say that statistics show teenagers are more likely to get into accidents than adults. What they don't say is that statistics also show that men of all ages are 77 percent more likely to kill someone while driving than women.
Statistics show 16- to 17-year-old driver death rates increase with each additional passenger, which is due to distracted driving. Taking your eyes off the road for 2 (two) seconds, at 60 mph, means you have driven blindly for half the length of a football field. The risk of fatality is 3.6 times higher, when they are driving with passengers than when alone. For many years, the correlation between driving behavior and age has interested highway safety researchers and administrators. It is general knowledge that the greatest risk of motor vehicle crash...
Driving is something people do everyday. Although many people do it well, some do not, that being said the legal age to drive should be raised to twenty one years of age. The driving age should be raised because teens at the ages of fourteen through twenty should not be behind the wheel for the simple fact that they are just too young and too inexperienced to drive, also someone of that age can get more distracted than a person who is twenty-one or older and has had some time to mature and become responsible enough to operate a motor vehicle. “In the United States, 16–19-year-olds have the highest incidence of motor vehicle deaths among licensed drivers and motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15–20-year-olds.” (Haggerty
According to Carnegie Mellon University the casualties’ rate for drivers 85 years and older is 4 times more higher than it is for teenagers who are considered are most reckless drivers. Penndot statistics shows that the number of crashes involving drivers age 65 and older in 2013 was up 12 percent from five years before. Voanews indicates that in a lot of elderly drivers accidents they mistaken the gas pedal for the brakes or vice versa. One fatality crash can affect and impact people for their whole lives. These crashes can occur in seconds. According to cdc.gov there were nearly 5,700 elderly drivers that were killed. Police are already busy enough the more we can reduce their work the more it will help keep our community safer; not only in crashes but the police can also focus more on preventing drug deals and gang fights. To put it another way we don’t want families to be stressed out on their elderly parents safety we want them to feel like their parents are safe, so they can go help other issues in this
Most people look forward to their 16th birthday because they are legal to drive. In 2012 there was 13,891 car crashes were reported but over 900 people were killed. Alcohol played a role in 260 fatal crashes. Speeding was a factor in13.2 percent of fatal crashes. So should we Michigan raise the driving age? Yes, Michigan’s driving age should be raised because of the number of people getting killed , having distractions and the fact that teens don’t care what could happen.
...ture a risk-taking species. In ancient times we took risks just to eat. Later we took huge risks by setting out in little wooden ships to explore the earth's surface. We continued as we sought to fly, travel faster than the speed of sound and to head off into space. We rely on increasingly more complex equipment and constantly strive to design and manufacture faster and even more elaborate devices. It goes without saying that every effort is made to ensure our "safety"; to keep us from harm or danger. Every time you slide behind the wheel of your vehicle you are taking a risk. Driving is the riskiest activity in our lives. It is an inherently "unsafe" environment. The most perfect vehicles on the best designed highways on beautiful sunny days driven by fallible human beings crash into each other. The only way to drive "safely" (as we are all admonished to do!) is to learn more about the process. Learn more about your vehicle and how to maintain it; learn how to use your eyes to look far down the road; learn to spot problems before they happen; and also learn to deal with emergency situations. In most cases it's the human element that fails. After all, safe is only as safe does.
Again, it makes the headlines; an older driver causes a dangerous automobile crash. As the amount of elderly driving has increased in the past decade, the risk for others to be out on the road has increased. In 2012, there were 36 million licensed older drivers in the United States. (Federal Highway Administration, Department of Transportation (US)) As a 34% increase from 1999, it has been noted that seniors are driving past their ability by an average of 10 years. (Federal Highway Administration, Department of Transportation (US)). Elderly continue to drive despite the prominent physiological changes that worsen as they age. The amount of automobile collisions suggests that prevention must occur in order to make the roads safer. By examining older drivers’ medical complications, older drivers must be retested to be able to drive a vehicle.
Engines roaring and cars flying down the highway recklessly, racing to the finish. This is a stereotyped outlook on teen drivers. This however, is not the case. Teens don’t drive to race down the road. They drive for freedom. They drive to get where they need to be on their own. The driving age should not be raised to 18 because it takes away their feeling of freedom, Denies the access to needed transportation, denies experience, It puts additional stress on parents, and they need to be learning the driving skill while they’re young.
The average individual initially acquires his license as a young adult after successfully passing the required driver’s license test. This leads to more individuals continuing to be licensed throughout their lifetimes, which leads to many elderly drivers still having their licenses based on test results from at least 50 years before. Research shows that in 2009, 33 million licensed drivers were over 65, a 20 percent increase since 1999. It is estimated that by the year 2030, 70 million Americans in the United States will be over the age of 65 with 85 to 90 percent being eligible to drive with the same license they obtained 50 years earlier. Regardless of their original test results, elderly individuals should be required to retake the driver’s license test for the safety and benefit of the surrounding drivers.
Firstly, drivers prioritize their time and ego over the safety of themselves and others. Risky drivers believe they are untouchable and take risks for fun or to save time. Most risks apply to drivers of all ages, however, there are specific risks that are performed by some young drivers. New drivers often forget to buckle their seat belts before driving a car, thus, making a minor collision a fatal crash.
Do you think people over the age of 75 should be driving! With them on the road it can be a dangerous driving hazard to all drivers especially new drivers. So every year or two years we should have the man or woman retake the basic driving test and take a hearing and vision test just to see if their scenes are up to date. Just to make sure that everyone on the road driving is safe and the elderly driver themselves. Drivers over the age of 75 should retake the driver's test once every two years because more than teenagers they are involved in more fatal accidents they could not be able to turn probably because of their muscles of the road and they might need vision testing.
The hook is why teens should drive at a young age. Without the license could be an
I am on my final semester of community college at Glendale Community College and I will be attending Arizona State University in fall 2016. Raising the minimum driving age would simply make the riskiest drivers on the road a little bit older. I believe the driving age of sixteen is the perfect age. When people are sixteen, they live at home which means they have more rules against them which is part of their driving privileges. If the driving age was increased, say to eighteen, the driver may not be living at home
I think that the driving age should be lowered. One reason is because your parents my get hurt and they need you to drive them to the hospital. Or if you're an only child you might have to drive if your dad and mom split up. You might need to drive them to the hospital or the store. You might also need to go get your mom or dad at the hospital.
In the article Crash Facts on the 16- to 19- Year-Old Age Group, written by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, it is stated that 11.1 percent of sixteen year old drivers are involved in car accidents. Sixteen year olds are less experienced and are accident prone 2.43 percent more than eighteen year olds. According to Ted Gregory, a Chicago Tribune reporter, in New Jersey, teenagers start driving at the age of seventeen unlike other states with a driving age of sixteen. After the law was enacted, the percentage in fatal accidents dropped 33 percent. This report proves that as teenagers get older, car accidents are less likely to happen. Many would argue that age is just a number and eighteen year olds cause many car accidents as well. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reported that in comparison to sixteen year olds, eighteen year olds are less likely to be involved in car accidents, with a rate of 8.67 percent. Sixteen year old drivers who are involved in car accidents are more likely than older drivers to cause accidents due to carelessness on the
