People have been debating for many years whether competitive sports should be allowed for children. This has been a constant issue because as of 2013, 7.7 athletes competed in high school sports and even more played in other organized leagues (When Did Competitive Sports Take Over American Childhood). This can cause injuries that can hurt our up and coming generation, but sports could also have great benefits. Competitive sports should be allowed for kids because they can keep kids active, they keep kids out of trouble and focused on a better life, and sports can teach kids valuable lessons. One reason competitive sports should be allowed is because they help keep people healthy and active. For starters, a study showed that exercise could …show more content…
To begin, compared to people who had not participated in sports, female high school athletes are less likely to have sexually activity, to use drugs, and be depressed ("Facts: Sports Activity and Children".) This is notable because it proves that sports are a good way to keep kids motivated on school and setting themselves up for a successful life. To add on, students who participated in high school athletics are more likely to attend colleges and get degrees ("Facts: Sports Activity and Children"). This proves that sports keep kids motivated on the later life by focusing them on school, which will then help them later in life. Last of all, Children between the ages of 8 and 18 spend on average 7 and a half hours using entertaining media including televisions, computers, video games, phones, and other electronics in a normal day. Only 1 out of every 3 students get the recommended amount of physical activity per day (“Get Active”). This is an example of the fact that competitive sports keep kids out of trouble and focused on a better life because it keeps kids of electronics and is a fun good way to stay active and it can keep them out of the trouble that online websites, video games, and social media can produce. There is evidence that shows that sports could have devastating effects in the long run. It is reported that some NFL football players have exhibited signs of Alzheimer’s in their 40s as a result of concussions (Cohen). This shows that the risks of sports can be tremendous and they could become life threatening. Also, “More than 775,000 children, ages 14 and younger, are treated in hospital emergency rooms for sports-related injuries each year” (Sports Injury Statistic). This shows how much injuries can affect the kids of America. However, there is evidence that supports the fact that many injuries can be produced outside of competitive sports. In the year 2013, 743 bicyclists were killed in car accidents (Pedestrian and Bicyclist Crash Statistics). This shows that other activities such as pedestrian biking can be just as dangerous. Competitive sports may cause injuries, but other activities are just as
Sports are a crucial part of an individual 's character. Counter arguments made against having sports at schools are getting more and more public. Some think that competitive sports is good for younger children but, some people don't think it's a good idea. I personally think that younger children should not play competitive sports. Research shows that playing competitive sports is not good for you. My first reason is that sports have become a lot more competitive for kids. My second reason is that, if children lose a game when they played their heart out, most likely they will lose their self-esteem. My third reason is that people can overplay one certain sport and get burnt out on that sport.
Sports are a popular pastime among all ages and types of people. People not only participate in them for fun, but also for money, physical fitness, rush of competition, and for many other personal reasons. Playing sports is especially common among young people in schools. Athletics are great and enjoyable for many reasons, but there can be a point where sports participation can go too far and become negative for children and adults. Sports specialization for young people is an increasing trend that results in sports having a negative impact on individuals and society.
The benefits of participating in competitive youth sports are worth the drawbacks because athletes learn discipline and responsibility and sports also help athletes make and keep commitments that they will make later in life. In the article “Have Youth Sports Become Too Intense?,” the issue of youth sports and if they have become too intense is debated. Children are taught to be respectful and to be nice to others. Students who play sports are better well rounded than those who aren't.

Kids should not play competitive sports because they are stressful, expensive, and dangerous. The first reason that kids should not play competitive sports is that they are stressful. According to LiveStrong, “The mounting pressure to play well can increase stress and make children feel bad and lose confidence should they make mistakes or lose” (Huggins 2017). Kids want to be recognized and rewarded, so winning can cause them to experience lots of pressure. However, if they do not win, they might lose confidence and self-esteem, which adds on another con.
Competitive sports have had an impact on many people’s lives. They will most likely continue to have an impact on people’s lives until they get banished from schools, which would be a huge debate all over the United States. Many people have their own opinions on if competitive sports are good or bad. But I think if schools were to get rid of competitive sports, it would have more of a negative affect than a positive affect. That’s because students may never learn some of the lessons they will and have learned from these high school competitive
Forcing anyone to join a competitive sport has caused many arguments. Some people may think that joining a competitive sport is good because it gets people off their couch and active. Other people can argue that competitive sports, although they keep people active, they can cause horrible injuries, they can be a distraction, or they can cause people to have a very high self-esteem. Even though sports can be fun, they should be banned from schools. To start off the first reason why any kind of competitive sport is bad because they can cause severe injuries.
Sports programs have been an integral part of all schools. They support the academics of the school and therefore foster success in life. These programs are educational and help produce productive citizenship. Education may kindle the light of knowledge, but sports help to maintain the proper physique. Sports are also an important means of entertainment and a use for energy after long hours of study. Sports increase a student’s performance not only in the classroom but also in their life.
In today’s society more than 40 million children play competitive sports. (National Council of Youth Sports (NCYS)) This means if they ban or get rid of competitive sports they will be depriving 40 million children’s way of being active and having fun. I believe that competitive sports are a good thing and that there really should not be any sort of issue. There are also many things that competitive sports help one develop.
Should we have competitive sports or no? I believe we should have athletics in schools because there is a lot of students that participate in school sports and they do so because it gives them something athletic to do and for college it makes it a whole a lot easier to enroll and get supplies you need if you have an athletic scholarship. Without the school scholarships that the school gives out you would have a horrible time in college just because of the fees of getting supplies needed and plus the cost to have a dorm room. First off I have to say that supplies such as books, pencils, paper, and also the fee of enrolling there is and can be very expensive.
