Kids should not play competitive sports because they are stressful, expensive, and dangerous. The first reason that kids should not play competitive sports is that they are stressful. According to LiveStrong, “The mounting pressure to play well can increase stress and make children feel bad and lose confidence should they make mistakes or lose” (Huggins 2017). Kids want to be recognized and rewarded, so winning can cause them to experience lots of pressure. However, if they do not win, they might lose confidence and self-esteem, which adds on another con. There are several costs such as medical and travel costs. From the New York Times, it states, “Parents of these children, from third through 12th grade, will pay about $800 each, not including airfare, hotel and other expenses” (Sullivan 2015). Even though $800 in general may not be too much, it is from third to 12th grade, and it does not include the travel cost such as the flight, hotel, and other uses. There are also a lot of medical costs. Kids are getting injured, and parents have to pay high bills for them on top of travel and the general enrollment pricing. Also, Detroit Free Press says, “The fees, gear and travel add up to about $10,000 a year” (“Competitive Youth Sports…” 2016). This means that in total, competitive sports can be expensive, and can take away the money that was intended to be saved up for college. This means that every year, kids have to go to the emergency room because of sports-related activities. Imagine how many kids have to go to the emergency room because of competitive sports. Too many kids are getting injured. Many kids are also suffering from other injuries that are involved with playing competitive sports. Also, according to Hopkins Medicine, “More than 775,000 children, ages 14 and younger, are treated in hospital emergency rooms for sports-related injuries each year” (Sports Injury Statistics n.d.). Many parents will argue about whether kids should be allowed to play sports at such a young age. In my opinion, I think kids shouldn’t be allowed to play sports at a young age. When they grow older, I think that kids should be allowed to play sports. When a young athlete gets injured, coaches may not be trained for an injury and the child can suffer more serious injuries just from that. Playing competitive sports affect young people in a good way. They are good because you have that commitment and now its hard to back down. In the "no" section of 'Have Youth Sports Become Too Intense?", it states "Intense training promotes self-confidence, self-discipline, and commitment." Student athletes can agree with all of this because it teaches discipline and a lot of other things. Parents can disagree with my reason, because they don't want their child to go through with intense training. They think it's way too much for the child.

Kids who are pushed into playing multiple sports over multiple sports seasons have a much higher chance of getting injured, as a result of overuse of their bodies. Kids should only be pushed in a sport if they want to play not because their parents want to. In many cases parents determine whether to push the children or not. These traumatic injuries can cause loss memory, lifelong pain, aggression, depression, and personality change after concussion. In fact, multiple concussions are very serious which that can be lead to death. As a result of multiple concussions, for example, Kosta Karageorge NFL player committed suicide and have since been identified with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). As a result, kids should not play football.

The children could have quit because they did not like the disappointment of losing, or because they are exhausted from their parents pushing them too hard. But parents have their reasons for pushing their children into sports. “Studies show that kids who play sports are less likely to become obese, abuse drugs or alcohol or to perform poorly in school” (McCormick). If children are not active, then they will most likely become overweight, and if they have nothing to do in their pastime, they may turn to drugs and alcohol, which usually leads to a decrease of grades in school. A parent putting his/her child in sports gives the child something to do and keeps them fit. Parents also put their child in a sport hoping that he/she will get success out of it “Eager to nurture the next A-Rod or Michelle Kwan, parents enroll their 5- or 6-year-olds in a competitive sports league or program” (Stenson). Children who have sometimes achieved an injury hesitate to step back onto the field and because of this fear of getting hurt most of the students quit. The certain values should be taught to children about good sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition. Now innocent teenagers died from a contact sport. The constant jarring of the head finally killed two high schools students providing sports can be extremely dangerous.
