The fate of our country depends on people voting for a president wisely, but immature 16 year olds should not be a part of it. Additionally, those two years give 16 year olds time to mature. In fact, 16 year olds can be easily persuaded to vote for someone by friends or family. Also, if they cannot be apart of legally buying drugs, then why should they be able to vote? As can be seen, the voting age should not be lowered to 16. One reason 16 year olds should not vote is that they mature over the two years before they turn 18. Additionally, most adults are more mature than average 16 year olds. This evidence states that, “Minors, according to current laws, are not yet mature enough to take part in consuming alcohol, tobacco products and make other important consent based decisions, they lack the ‘temperament.’ In a sense, is voting any different?” (Debono). This explains that if 16 year olds cannot drink or take part of drinking alcohol or legally buying drugs, then they should not be able to vote. Voting needs the same amount of maturity as consuming alcohol, so 16 year olds should be able to have the time to mature to be able to do both responsibly. As can be seen, 16 year olds should not be able to vote since they are not mature enough to drink …show more content…
Additionally, many types of people will try to use 16 year olds as a way to vote again. The evidence affirms that, “They could lack the independence and critical thinking skills to understand what is in their own best interest. They may find themselves at risk of being manipulated by other’s agendas.” (Debono). This shows that 16 year olds might not be mentally ready to vote. Instead, they could be manipulated by their friends’ or family’s decisions instead of voting for themselves. Sixteen year olds should not vote since they could be convinced by family or friends to vote for someone
In “You’re 16, You’re Beautiful and You’re a Voter,” author Anya Kamenetz states her belief that the voting age should be lowered to sixteen. Kamenetz gives several premises to her argument.
In Carrie Kirby's article "Why Students Want to Lower the Voting Age" published in the October 7th, 2015 edition of The Atlantic, Kirby looks into the arguments being made by student activists in San Francisco who are trying to lower the voting age to 16. She begins by mentioning Oliver York, a 16-year old who has an answer to practically any question one could raise about allowing 16 and 17 year olds to vote. York argues that this case is similar to those which occurred in the early 1900s in the fight for women's suffrage, any how many had dismissed the thought because they would "just vote the way [their] husbands would vote." Jillian Wu, another 16-year old, points out that 44% of Scottish teens voted differently than their parents during
Although there are 44 million eligible young voters ages 18-29, in 2012 only 45% of them voted. These young people make up one fifth, or 21%, of the eligible voting population, yet they often do not vote. Voting is a tremendous gift. Young people in many other countries around the world have to fight to gain this right. In America, voting is often taken for granted by all age groups, but the youth take it for granted the most. In this paper, the reason why young people do not vote will be explored and solutions as to how to get them to vote will be proposed.
The voting age should not be lowered because teenagers have not fully matured and there is no proven benefit of gaining teenage voters.
Should teens should be allowed to vote? Teens should be allowed to vote because they want to know about the world. They want to have a say in what is happening in their community because they have really good ideas . They will also be able to learn how to make good and smart decisions for the future. Barthakurm said, “ When a person grows up their brain has actually shrunk...but when your 13, your brain is ¾ of the way done being grown.”
When should a young person cast his or her vote in an election When it comes to elections no other world power can match a United States Presidential election, or even a general election, with so many people eager to vote and have a say in what way the country will be shaped and how the next four years of a presidential term will change the way American lives are for that period of time. Now it is easy to say that you must be eighteen in order to vote, but looking at it from the point of view of someone who could not vote in the primary election, but was able to vote in the actual presidential election; it stands to reason that someone like that should have been able to vote in the primary if they voted in the presidential. Who does that really
Some countries and states think voting age should be lowered. It a certain age in the United States to vote it was 21 then it went down to 18 years old. Since the voting age has been lower before it can be lower again. They want to go further and change the voting age to 16 years old. In recent years, the issue about voting age has been talked about in some countries and states. Some people think the voting age shouldn’t be lowered because they think kids that 16 years old don’t know nothing. Kids that are 16 years old do know something about the government and elections because they go to school and the teachers teach them some 16 years old should have the right to vote they know what they doing and it gone be their responsibility
Bringing 16-year-olds into the election will allow for new voices and new ideas that are rarely ever considered by actual adults such as school grade education. More often than not, when a specific age group is finally given the opportunity to express their ideas towards politics they take it. In Canada, after 18-year-olds were given the eligibility to vote, in the 1972 election, voter turnout increased by approximately 2 million ballots in comparison to its previous election in 1968 (E.C 2015). By including 16-year-olds into our election, we would receive new interpretations in our elections that couldn’t be thought of by adults because the experiences they had as a 16-year-old differs from the adolescence we have
I would like to further my knowledge of becoming Dean of Education at a college or university. The role of a dean varies from one college to the next. Each college has its own set of responsibilities and ways of meeting the needs of the students and faculty. There are many duties that a dean performs each day some of which involve strategic thinking, risk management and being a good listener.
Should the voting age be lowered to 16? This is one of the most controversial topics in the U.S. today. Especially for all of the 16 year-olds that are not allowed to vote thanks to this nation's laws. 16 year-olds are allowed to work, get married, and even move out of their parents place if they want to yet they can’t vote. This is especially unjust to those who have knowledge about politics and could even use their vote to help this country.
People who are against the idea may say: "Why should we lower the voting age? Kids these days don't care about voting." While this may be true to some degree, there are plenty of young people out there who are interested in politics. Back when I was in my school days, I had plenty of classmates who were like that. Don't be fooled, and think to yourself: "Oh, he's just another dumb kid." Just because he or she is a kid doesn't mean they can't be interested in something as serious as politics.
I do not believe that a 16 year old is responsible enough to make a decission as important as voting. I think a person should have to be a little older and a little more educated to have a right to vote.Voting should not be taken lightly. The average 16 year old has no interest in politics of any kind.
Have you ever thought what it would be like if teens around the age of 16 or 17 years old can vote. Well that is an interesting question that you must consider. Voting is the most important thing in the US because of why it is done. Voting is basically done to make something legal but most importantly to choose the next president. In this case, choosing the next president is very important because it decides the future for the country. Over the years there has always been the same rule and that is that only adults 18 years of age and older are allowed to vote and that is because they are more capable of making a good decision and that is not always the case. But what would happen if 16 and 17 year olds were allowed
Voting is a political liberty of many law-abiding citizens of the United States of America. In today’s culture, there is a widespread belief that America’s youth do not vote, and in turn possess the lowest voter turnout amongst citizens. This research will discuss the voting behavior of America’s youth as it relates to their older counterparts. With young people accounting for 21% of the eligible voting population, it is necessary for them to understand the importance their voting participation has on society (CIRCLE, 2010). America’s youth is slightly disengaged from the political world and tend to vote less often than older voters. However, this disconnect from politics does not exist because they are uninterested in political practices. Arguably, voter turnout is the lowest for youth because there is a lack of political awareness. Young adults are not properly targeted during campaign seasons and lack the necessary tools to be considered an informed voter.
Imagine a world where the young people had a voice, in American politics! Probably a scary thought to some adults. However, as society begins to change, what if young people around the age of 15 had a voice in our politics. Specifically, being the right to vote. The right to vote has been, in American history for years.
