Jerry and His Bullying Pals “Mom, last time I got bullied terribly bad,” said Jerry, “ why do we have to move again?” Jerry wasn't your typical high school kid. He was a joyful person, but very quiet and to himself. He didn't have many friends and you'd often find him sitting in the front of the classroom by himself. Jerry was very shy. However, he did answer questions the teacher asked quite often. “My job is relocating me to Denver, Jerry,” said his mom, “we have to.” Jerry's mom, Susan, had an occupation that required them to relocate at least once a year. This caused much distress for Jerry. He already struggled with anxiety and depression. Having to move a lot, along with being bullied, only made his situation worse. It was the beginning …show more content…
He had survived first period without any problems. It was getting close to lunch and Jerry was starving! His mom had packed his lunch that day, so all he could do during second period was daydream about the turkey sandwich awaiting him. The bell finally rang and Jerry, of course being shy, just waited for everyone else to walk out of the classroom. He then followed the herd into the cafeteria, where he started to look for a lunch table. He didn't know anyone, so he ended up sitting alone at the table in the back of the cafeteria. It was then he saw a group of the jocks headed straight for him. Oh no, he thought. Here we go …show more content…
Jerry knew exactly what was coming next. It was then that the boy proceeded to shove him into the wall. “Why don't you tell me to leave you alone again, nerd.” “Im sorry. I won't say it again.” replied Jerry “I bet you wont after im through with you.” About that time, to Jerrys saving grace, the bell rang. He gathered his things and headed to his fourth period class. All period he sat and thought about the situation that just occured. He tried to stay positive and was hoping tomorrow maybe they would just leave him alone. Before he knew it, it was the end of day and Jerry was heading straight for home, but as he stepped out of class there they were, waiting for him. As he entered the hallway, Jerry tried not to make eye contact, but it was then he saw someone walking towards him. The next thing he knew his books were on the ground and so was he. The bully had punched him in the nose. Jerry was used to this kind of thing, so he gathered his things, got back up, and headed to his moms car. “Oh my goodness, Jerry! Here take this napkin. What happened to you” said his mom, as he got in. “Nothing Mom. Its fine.” “Jerry, this is not fine. You better tell me now.” “Some kids were picking on me. They just shoved me down and my nose started
Over 67% of students believe that schools respond poorly to bullying, with a high percentage of students believing that adult help is infrequent and ineffective. Through the book the obvious theme to me is bullying. The author of this book Chris Crutcher is a very talented author. He has many books that are very good but has only earned one award. “Whale talk” has a main theme about bullying and it shows it through many characters and the mental and physical effect it has on people.
Bully (2001) is a movie based on a true story about a group of rebellious, yet naïve teens who conspire to exact ultimate revenge on a mutual friend. In a twist, unlike most, this movie highlights not only extent of bullying amongst peers, but details the ultimate revenge that would irrevocably change the lives of the entire group. The movie takes place in South Florida where Marty, a high school dropout, and Bobby are “alleged” best friends. As they set out to meet up with mutual friends Ali and Lisa for a double date the bully is immediately apparent as Bobby begins to verbally torment Marty, which quickly turns physical as he repeatedly punches Marty while he is driving for accidently swerving. Although, Marty stops the car and retaliates,
He dropped his lunch and I slammed him against the lockers. “Hi Melvin,” I said in my “bully” voice. “What is it like to pass this time?” Melvin asked. “How about.”
When accusing Winona of being an Indian giver, Jerry should not have let his emotions take over. That is, he should have watched his words closely and apologise immediately as this would have enabled Winona’s anger to subside.
Giles Corey, although a commonly overlooked character in the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, is a very developed character when looked at in depth. He isn’t just a character in the play, he is an actual person in the Salem witch trials. Snippets of his life in the town of Salem are found in the beginning acts and as the play progresses, we begin to learn more of his story. Corey is often shown as a kind, but naive man. In an explanation of the play supplied in the textbook, it mentions he had previous wives along with his current wife, Martha Corey.

The article, “Bullies and Their Victims”, by Berk (2010) gives an analysis of how bullies and their victims develop, what makes them persistent and how they and their victims can be assisted. Bullying is an activity that thrives mostly in a school setting because of peers and the various cultures and diversities among them. Interactions are inevitable among children, but bullying is destructive because it aims at peer victimisation. Both boys and girls have the ability to become bullies but the majority of them are boys who use physical and verbal attacks on their victims. In the more recent generations, the means of bullying is amplified in the adolescent stage by using electronic means like cyber bullying. Students will rarely like bullies but if they do, it is because of their leadership abilities or influential personalities. Their peers may join or stand by to watch as the victims are bullied.

Your whole personality, how you view yourself, and others changes drastically. This is what it feels like to be bullied. Bullying is a serious issue in America, especially among children and young adults. From kindergarten all the way up until my sophomore year of high school, I was a victim of bullying. Being bullied changed how I viewed myself and others, what my values and morals were, and it shaped me into the person I am today.
