Sex Slavery

How would you feel if you were sexually assaulted ever day?

How would you feel if you were essentially owned by someone else, and had no controls over your actions?

This is the life of a sex slave.

Sex slavery is a form of human trafficking in where a woman, man or child goes against their will to forcefully perform commercial sex acts. Sex slavery has been, and is still, an ongoing problem, which most prevalently involves women. Woman and girls make up 98% of all sex trafficking victims. Upon arrival to these new jobs, they are then sexually abused, violently threatened and sold off forcefully to perform sex acts and the sex industry.

Sometimes sex trafficker victims work to pay off a supposed debt of all their requirements, including food, transport and sale, and perform bonded labour, where they basically work their whole lives off, and then gotten rid of when they are no longer seen as useful in the industry anymore.

As a consequence, when the sex trafficking victim is caught, they may be incarcerated and accused of criminal activity, for example of prostitution. However, this charge is not really a big concern, given the long lasting physical and psychological trauma that impinges on the victim for the rest of their life. They are also more at risk of having contracted an STI, due to numerous forced sexual encounters, and therefore may suffer having a disease such as HIV or AIDS for the rest of their life, affecting their overall wellbeing and quality of life. A lot of people who have had such psychological trauma put on them, often turn mentally ill, or even turn to drugs to mask the memories and pain of the past, which in turn having devastating consequences such as homelessness and death that could sadly
