My topic for senior project is to train for a heptathlon which is a multi-event competition that requires a demanding amount of physical and mental skills. This topic is important to me because as an athlete who could possibly compete at a collegiate level I would like to challenge myself by completing the ultimate women's athletic challenge.
Learning about this topic will benefit me in the future because it can help me develop vital skills needed to perform task throughout my senior year, and college. With the Heptathlon being a multi-event competition you would have to deal with stress, time management, and go through a rigorous amount of mental preparation. With Senior Project being a multi-step project I would also need to deal with stress,

Those key performance skills are maximum speed, explosive power and speed endurance. The speed endurance will be used to run the 800m and 200m, the maximum speed, and explosive power will be used for hurdles and the rest of my events. I will also learn how to achieve maximum performance in the sprints, hurdles, jumps, and throws. Finally, I will learn about the scoring table for each event, in addition to, the right diet plan to follow during training.
My mentor during senior project will be Darius Miles, owner of the Insane Fitness gym located in Columbus, Georgia. I found my mentor through past fitness classes I have taken with the Insane Fitness Track Club. Mr. Miles is qualified to mentor me because he is ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association) certified in personal and Athletic training. He has also worked with other athletes who have competed in heptathlons or events similar to it.
My final product/performance will be to improve my all-around approach to exercise during my 100 hours, achieve maximum performance during training, and to improve my technique for all events. As a result of all this I will eventually compete in 2 competitive
There is a newly wedded couple who has decided it is time for them to move out their small apartment and buy their own home. They go house hunting, and after seeing two homes they find this house that they feel is the home of their dreams yet it lacks some of the extra luxury things they feel is needed. They decide to purchase the house. They move in two months later and go straight to work. They knock out walls, change the flooring, add a pool, new appliances, remodel the bathroom, new central air and heat system, everything to fit their desired needs. After months of renovation the house is finally complete. They throw a house warming party to celebrate. Life is great for the couple.
For this project, the certified athletic trainer who I have shadowed for almost eight hours in just one day is Candace O'Bryan, currently the athletic trainer at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron. Candace has worked at Hoban now entering her third year at the high school. She works alone as a trainer there but works along side one team doctor who is at every game, and the other one being a neurosurgeon but is just a parent helping out.
I have been a four year letter-winner in volleyball and basketball. Athletics have been a crucial part of developing my character and work ethic. In sports, you must work together with your team to reach your goals. Trust and communication skills are vital and are tested every day. The failure and setbacks I have faced through sports have helped me to believe in myself and have the self-confidence that it takes to be successful in athletics and in life. As a senior captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, my leadership has improved tremendously as high school has progressed. Being a leader holds me accountable and I aim to be a role model for younger teammates on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.
...t the last year of high school would be less agonizing without a laborious issue such as a Culminating Project, to attend to. Therefore, these points have been covered: what the project is, examples of different advocators of the project, and the different viewpoints of why it is useful verses why it is not. Hopefully, this can change the ideals and opinions of the administrators and enforcers of the Senior Project, to consider what a hindrance it is.
The most important aspect of any athlete, at any age, is the preparation they make for the athletic endeavor they choose. All successful athletes have one thing in common. That common denominator is training their body, mentally and physically, for the specific sport they choose to excel at. No athlete attains greatness by mistake. The body and mind are incredible machines that perform incredible feats if trained in the proper manner. The keys to proper training are discipline, consistency and execution. The body works in perfect symmetry with the mind. By executing the proper training techniques, the body will perform, with specific instruction from the mind, the tasks which

I believe I am a strong leader and I use my leadership abilities to improve the school as often as I possibly can. One of my strongest leadership skills is communication. I believe that it is vital to talk to others and get others input before making decisions. In the school, I ask other students their opinions on different events and I bring them back to the council frequently. Another leadership ability I possess is creativity. I always attempt to come up with creative and unique ideas to contribute to the council. For example, in meetings I always attempt to share new and different ideas to benefit the council. An important skill for leaders to possess is organization. I show this trait by using a binder to organize my agendas and showing up to every meeting.
Since this past summer, I have been working with Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) to create a project for my Senior Capstone Project at Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School. This project has been incredibly influential towards defining my current outlook on my potential future and career in Engineering. In an effort to expand upon what I have learned at SVGS through an Introduction to Engineering class, I wanted to use the programming skills that I have obtained to wire, design, and program a new sensor and create something to assist the patients at the center. Therefore, I have collaborated with the physical therapy department and am currently working on a motorized wheelchair sensor device. This sensor will act as a warning
The use of the six principles of training by a 100m sprinter would greatly improve the athlete’s performance. This is because the progressive overload, specificity, reversibility, variety, training thresholds and warm up/cool down principles all greatly affect the performance of any athlete. The principles of training can be employed in order to improve all aspects of fitness, from flexibility to strength and aerobic endurance.
Coaching and mentoring are not about learning to do something the right way, but are about helping to lead an individual to find their own way of doing it practically and efficiently. Coaching and mentoring sessions are guided with theoretical models, which help focus both the coach and the coachee in attaining desired outcomes for problem situations. However, even with the aid of theoretical models not everyone can coach another person. The first and far most important attribute of a coach is the ability to build relationships with the coachee in that the coachee feels safe and trusting towards the coach, without the capability to interact with the client there may be a lack of progress or motivation. Another important skill of a coach is not to judge.
The goal was to encourage athletic training in the sports medicine field . There are five main domains of athletic training listed in the 7th edition ( 2015) of athletic training practice analysis. Injury and illness prevention , examination assessment and diagnosis , immediate and emergency care , therapeutic intervention , and healthcare administration and professional responsibility . An athletic trainer function would be becoming a member of the healthcare team in clinics , secondary schools , colleges and universities , professional sports programs and other training centers. The classes you’ll need to take in High school and college are Human anatomy and Physiology which in this class you’ll learn to recognize and apply the basic concepts that make up the body functions in the nine organ body system. And in human anatomy you’ll learn the structures of the human body. You’ll also need to take kinesiology which is a class to help you receive a better understanding of flows of energy within your body like tissues , organs , and muscles
From freshman year until senior year I had worked my way up through grueling workouts and making sure I made it to practice each day. In addition, I would spend my winter and spring running track and then train for cross country in the fall during the summer. My hard work and attendance finally payed off when my coach named me captain. I take on the role of leadership, attendance , mental toughness, and obedience as I set an example for the rest of the team. It helped shape my high school experience because most of it revolved around school work and my practices and friends from cross country. I also believe these characteristics will follow me through
Today at my internship, I observed classes and picked up a few new pointers that great performance coaches possess. In particular, I learned that part of being a sports performance coach is that it is crucial that you know the mechanics and break down of an athletic movement as well as the anatomy of the human body. For example, at my internship today, I learned the mechanics behind a sprint when observing the linear acceleration class. For a sprint, your feet are leaning forward, opposite hand forward and other hand back, feet weight is distributed between both feet, head is straight, and eyes are looking straight forward. Knowledge of an athletic movement and of the human body is important for a sports performance coach to have because it shows the athletes and their parents that your training has a purpose and that you
The internship that I acquired during the summer of 2010 at the Greenwood Sports and Industrial Rehabilitation Center (GSIRC), allowed me to gain an immeasurable amount of experience during my tenure at this facility. Within this period, the exposure to new concepts within the physical therapy industry allowed me to observe and work hands on with patients of all ages and disabilities that exposed me to various treatment plans and programs to restore client’s mobility. The essential Physical Education and Exercise Science (PEES) courses taken at Lander University were beneficial to my academic knowledgebase, which prepared me and developed me for the opportunity within the physical therapy discipline. Working as an intern taught me the responsibility of time management and working within a lean schedule that allow me to further develop my skill set. This reflection paper will illustrate my classroom experience, internship experience, and learning experience.
