The article "Effects of a Self-Monitoring Device on Socially Relevant Behaviors in Adolescents with Asperger Disorder" added to a small collection of literature that examines the use of self- monitoring in individuals with high functioning autism. This study alone benefits the community at large due to the scarce observation in regards to the benefits of self-monitoring, particularly when it comes to perseverative behaviors of individuals in the population. This research can help us understand the reasoning behind monitoring behavior to help those with ASD and HFA through the everyday difficulties they may face, whether bullied or not. This pilot study is greatly needed because it provides reasoning for further studies to be performed
While this study did not produce the result we wanted, we believe that we could use the information learned from this study and develop a study that would be more effective.
As Applied Behavior Analyst, we seek to modify a behavior social significant behavior. Our effectiveness can only be measured how much the behavior we set out to modify is changed to a degree in which it makes a difference in the social situations the behavior occurs in. Baer said that this was not a scientific measurement, but a practical one: "its power in altering behavior enough to be socially important, is the essential criterion” (Cooper 17-18). The effectiveness of the research of an ABA effect both the clinical and educational applications of ABA because these cases are the bases of how ABA grows and changes. They are the way we learn and master our field. Even if modifications are later made to older experiments, without them we would not know where to
This systematic review conducted by Takeda A, Taylor SJC, Taylor RS, Khan F, Krum H, Underwood M, (2012) sourced twenty-five trials, and the overall number of people of the collective trials included was 5,942. Interventions were classified and assessed using the following headings.-
It is essential that when using evidence-based practice guidelines to choose a treatment, that variety of research methods are applied so that the best relevant data can be produced. Such methods include qualitative/quantitative research, randomised controlled trials and systematic reviews. Both qualitative and quantative methods produce valuable data. Quantative research produces numeric evidence that is necessary for practice and can be measured and qualitative research produces descriptive data about the subject by using patients views etc. which can also be applied to clinical practice (Broeder et al, 2010)
The second completed pilot study was conducted in Solothurn, Switzerland. The final analysis was completed in January 2011.
Therefore if I were to do this study again I would do a pilot study
...c Observation Schedule, Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale, and McArthur Communication Development Inventory to measure the communication and aversive behavior frequency of the participants. After the procedures were complete, results demonstrated that advances were made in both of the dependent measures that utilized ABA with NET and DTT combined (Matson & Konst, 2013, p. 476). Comparable results were also found by Zachor and Ben-Itzchak (2010) who conducted a similar study with more dependent measures including communication, language, comprehension, daily living skills, motor skills, visual perception, and social behaviors (as cited in Matson & Konst, 2013). Thus, this research demonstrates that comprehensive ABA programs can be an ideal method of treatment not only for school-aged children and adults with ASD, but for EI individuals as well (Matson & Konst, 2013).
The movie I chose to watch was I am Sam. In this movie Sam is man who has Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Throughout this film Sam displays many tendencies in which can be related back to concepts we have learned in interpersonal skills. The definition of self-monitoring is “Your ability to identify, analyze, and modify your thoughts and feelings accurately” (Stone,2016). Sam was to identify his thoughts very well; however, he was unable to analyze how others reacted to his comments. He was not very good at picking up social ques and how others were non-verbally responding to him. The result of this was that he was unable to
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can be detected early in a child’s life. ASD is a developmental disorder classified by problems with social interaction,
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that effects the brains development. It is characterized by affecting communication, cognition and social interaction. The spectrum of the disorders ranges from a mild condition called Asperger’s syndrome to a more severe form, which severely impairer’s development. The Office of Communications and Public Liaison states that the disorder affects one and eighty-eight children, however ASD effects boys more frequently than girls (Office of Communications and Public Liaison, 2013). ASD emerges in all age, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. The significant varied character and severity of the disorder is why ASD is considered a spectrum that poses a broad range of symptoms.

The conference “Fifty Shades of Behavior Analysis” was nothing short of its name. The presenters at this conference reminded all of us in the field of Behavior Analysis that being a science of behavior allows us to apply our principles to many domains beyond working with individuals who have disabilities.

The outcome of each trial was standardized to an odd’s ratio; a odd’s ratio below 1.0 indicated a beneficial effect. The qualities of the trials were assessed by thee factors: randomisation, masking and data analysis. The information abo...
