In this competitive world, an individual must know his abilities if he wants to excel in any field. People's behavior is governed by a multitude of factors that include external influence, their own mental and emotional structure and various other things. The lack of Self Development is an important concern for any individual. Without being aware of their abilities, people tend to ignore the benefits that self-knowledge gives us. Ignorance about their own self tends to make people inefficient.
A person must undergo self-assessment in order to know where one lacks. In order to determine their weaknesses and capabilities, there are various methods available. However for a self-analysis, one must be relaxed, to ensure proper results and observe one's self. One of the methods is meditation or self talk that gives an insight to the individual's mind. One must try to remember those instances, which have been a source of de-motivation for them, or have left a deep but disturbing impact on them. These incidents must be examined so that one can understand what exactly is affecting us and hampering our proficiency.

The tests come in various forms, and are very accurate in assessing anyone's brainwaves and intellectual vibes. In case I haven't made it clear enough already: skill is something you can cultivate, not merely something you're born with. Though individuals can identify strengths and weaknesses through formal processes, they can also use informal means such as self-reflection. In line with this research, the self-efficacy construct has been found to impact how an individual appraises a situation and the corresponding way in which they cope. Self-efficacy can be defined as an individual’s beliefs about their ability to attain a certain outcome which is further expressed in their views about their capacity to execute a specific behavior or task. Since stress is a consistent and defining variable in sports and life outside of sports, it is crucial that athletes develop ways to successfully cope with stress and effectively implement these methods in order to avoid negative effects in competition and in life (Nicholls, Polman, Levy, & Borkoles, 2010).
I am a young ambitious student who strives to excel in everything I do. I want to study Sport Psychology as I know I possess the right skills to further and develop myself in the career of sports. I have the ability to understand others in sports as I also play sports myself. I have been in high pressured sporting situations which I have used my psychological skills to help increase my performance. Young athletes account for about 4 million injuries a year in the U.S. according to an article published in the Los Angeles Times (2010). US Today reported that approximately 1.35 million student athletes’ injuries were severe enough to send them to the hospital emergency department. Athletic injuries range from the simple ankle strains and sprains to more serious injuries such as: fractures, contusions, abrasions, and even concussions. The unexpected injuries can cause great physical and emotional challenges for these student athletes. Besides having to deal with the physical and emotional stresses they must also have to deal with the financial turmoil the injuries triggered. Recovering from sport injuries require more than undergoing rigorous physical rehabilitation. Physical healing which can take months is quite different from the mental and emotional healing which can take years to recover from.
Nature or Nurture in Human Athleticism In the past, athleticism in humans was the difference between life or death. However, in modern times our athletic ability is less about survival and more about performing well in sports. There is a debate about whether athletic ability is from our genes or from training. This is one part of the nature nurture debate.
Everybody has one consistent person with them throughout their entire lives: themselves. We as people spend every second of our lives inside of our own minds, analyzing all our thoughts and actions. Why is it so hard then to accurately and objectively judge our inner selves- especially our weaknesses? Author David Burr Gerrard tackles the subject of how accurate personal reflection is difficult for most people due to their fear of uncovering traits they do not want to accept about themselves. In his short story, “The Epiphany Machine”, Gerrard uses characterization and the exploration of conflict to demonstrate the difficulty of self analyzation of our weaknesses.
Over the course of the semester, I tracked my friendship with my friend and co-worker, Melissa. I had only started my job at the Stoughton Public Library a few weeks before the semester began, so I did know neither Melissa nor my other co-workers. This assignment became a useful tool in assessing how our friendship has evolved. Bill Rawlin’s six stage model of friendship and DeVito’s relationship model can be applied to my budding relationship with Melissa as we begin as strangers and eventually become friends.

Firstly, knowing yourself is an ongoing attention to one’s internal states (Goleman, 1997). It is the ability to see how your emotions and perceptions influence your thinking and behaviour. In the games and sports, psychological and physiological factors play an important role in determining the performance level (Grange & Kerr, 2010; Schilling & Hyashi, 2001). Sports Developing Character Can participating in sports build character? This question has been asked over and over by both players and sports leaders for a long time (Manning and Morgan). Character can be developed only if it is correctly taught and when the right environment is provided. Coaches can help develop it, but it helps if teammates can interact and talk to other players to help develop the character that is needing to be built. Participating in team sports helps develop character.
“Self-awareness is a psychological state in which people are aware of their traits, feelings and behaviour. Alternatively, it can be defined as the realisation of oneself as an individual entity.” (Crisp & Turner, 2010). In other words, self awareness is recognising one’s personality which includes strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs and emotions.
Sport and exercise psychology is a mandatory aspect of the sport science discipline. This discipline contributes to the various professional practices associated with physical activities such as - teaching of physical education, recreation and health promotion, and kinesiology related professions - because it plays a mental role for the participants. Sport and exercise psychologists view physical activity in several different ways: physical activity as a tool for health, physical activity as a tool for human potential, and physical activity as a tool for social change. This aspect of psychology may be the most important aspect of physical activity, because of the contributions of exercise and sport psychology to health, human potential, and social change.
