I am a young ambitious student who strives to excel in everything I do. I want to study Sport Psychology as I know I possess the right skills to further and develop myself in the career of sports. I have the ability to understand others in sports as I also play sports myself. I have been in high pressured sporting situations which I have used my psychological skills to help increase my performance. Applied Science gave me more of an understanding of the environment, biomechanics and applying science into sport. I currently study Sport at sixth form as that is what interests me where I can focus and apply my skills to. In Sport Psychology I exceeded my expectations at such a fast rate as I was determined and fixed on the subject. I have a feel of what is needed of me which I can take to another level. From being apart of the NHS Foundation Trust and raising awareness for the department of health is what I currently promote. I have two in date First Aid qualifications which has aided me to become mature and approach situations in a passionate manor. I have an FA Level 1 Coaching Badge which I completed while attending my 6th form. The qualification gave me a chance to work with players to see what they're into and I worked around I learned from sessions to better the players. In my life, I had not had the chance to be a part of something that influenced me much, until I joined football my freshman year in high school. Joining football was perhaps the most devoted and wisest thing that I did because shortly after joining I began to see changes for the better, and from then I saw the person that I wanted to be in the future. In other words, it shaped the person that I am today and will be for the rest of my life. Not only did the sport influence me but it also equipped me with a new mindset that affects me today in my decision making skills, time management and many other beneficial life virtues. I believe that these virtues will bring me success in the nearest future because I feel confident about myself and I feel more in control in my life through my actions, all thanks to simply joining what seemed to be a “regular” extracurricular.

US Today reported that approximately 1.35 million student athletes’ injuries were severe enough to send them to the hospital emergency department. Athletic injuries range from the simple ankle strains and sprains to more serious injuries such as: fractures, contusions, abrasions, and even concussions. The unexpected injuries can cause great physical and emotional challenges for these student athletes. Besides having to deal with the physical and emotional stresses they must also have to deal with the financial turmoil the injuries triggered. Recovering from sport injuries require more than undergoing rigorous physical rehabilitation. Physical healing which can take months is quite different from the mental and emotional healing which can take years to recover from.
Sports has been a passion of mines since I was a kid. It was not until the end of tenth grade that I realized how much basketball had influence my. Playing basketball is a way for me to escape from the real world. Playing basketball made everything feel better and made me happier. In order to excel in a sport, an athlete requires a lot of self-discipline, concentration, and self-confidence. It’s the mental factor that makes a difference. Former Olympic gold medal-winning decathlon runner Bruce Jenner once said, “You have to train your mind like you train your body” (Gregoire 1). Success or failure depends on the mental factors just as much as the physical ones. The training of the mind of an athlete is called sports psychology. The use of sports psychology has a huge impact upon an athlete’s performance. The mental skills of a sport are just as important as the physical skills. All professional athletes use sports psychology. “If they aren’t currently using it, it’s almost guaranteed they’ve used it in the past, even if they are unaware they have” (Davis, Stephens, The Exploratorium 129). It’s hard to find an experienced athlete who hasn’t used sports psychology, because without it, they probably wouldn’t be where they are. The use of sports psychology is a crucial step to becoming a successful athlete.
Sports can help many at- risk youths. In order to participate in sports you need to be committed and willing to work hard. You also have to learn to respect others and accept that winning isn’t the only measure of success. Losing can build character as well. When youth participate in a sports they enjoy, they are less likely to engage in behaviors that are harmful or dangerous to themselves and others. It is for these reasons schools should strive to maintain athletic programs for their students.

This, I believe is a very important part of coaching, because as a coach you are looked not only as an authority figure but as a role model. I would not be the athlete or person that I am today, if it were not for the role models and coaches that pushed me to be the best that I could be. They were people that I was able to look up to athletically as well as people I knew I could trust. Having a good coaching philosophy is also a large part of being a respectable coach.
