Choosing a toy can be fun and exciting to research, but it’s important for the person to follow appropriate guidelines. As far as safety goes, one of the most crucial things to look for when you are deciding what toy to purchase is how it is made. You have to check for hinges that could pinch fingers or skin, small pieces that can potentially fall off and become choking hazards, as well as sharp edges that could pierce the child's skin. A gender neutral color and theme is important so that you don't deter a certain sex from using it. Also, you want to make sure it is challenging for the child, but not frustrating. Choosing a toy that is at the child's age level is another thing to look at so that they can enjoy the toy without a lot of aggravation. You can practice counting by counting the animals one by one. Additionally, the children can name the animals and their noises. They can also practice recognizing their shapes by naming the shapes that make up the barn.
Children in this age group love to play pretend so they will defiantly love pretending to be a farmer with all of their animals, or even pretend to be the animals.
Likewise, Parents would love this toy. It is easily transported because all of the parts fit in the barn and snap closed so that you can take it with you. This would be great for learning the name of the animals included and their sounds. Additionally, after the age of five; they can still use it to play pretend. These are just a few of the reasons why parents would love this toy.

When you walk into the toy section of any store, you do not need a sign to indicate which section is the girls’ side and which section is the boys’ side. Aside from all the pink, purple, and other pastel colors that fill the shelves on the girls’ side, the glitter sticks out a lot as well. The boys’ toys however are mostly dark colors – blue, black, red, gray, or dark green. The colors typically used on either side are very stereotypical in themselves.
Although, the pictures illustrate that girls 'enjoy dresses ' and pink toys while boys enjoy active play toys, such as balls. Most of the toys in this store would seem to prepare girls to be princess and boys to be athletes. In contrast, there is a miscellaneous section that had gender neutral toys for an age group of kids 3-7; these toys had cooking sets, medical sets, and farming sets. Subsequently, it can be said that some of these gender-neutral toys could be preparing children for roles as farmers, doctors, and chefs. This section of gender-neutral toys seemed to be just randomly placed in the middle of the store, and the only other gender-neutral section seemed to be in the 1-5 age range. I didn’t see a ‘strategy of attraction’ for these gender-neutral toys. For this miscellaneous section, it seemed to be more of the predisposition of a child, for example, a child that may like horses might gravitate towards the gender-neutral farming set. Hence, characters like Winnie the Pooh, who brings amusement, may seem more attractive than Owl. While the character of CR is used to demonstrate the relationship between children and adults by the use of many parallels, speech and actions, it is the animals that represent the author's construction of different types of childhood. In addition to this, the animals are also the providers of amusement and entertainment which draw children's love and interest.
The toy industry makes it seem acceptable that only certain toys are suitable for one or the other gender by marketing them as such. For a parent to differ, it would mean stepping out of the box, possibly alienating their child from others with a choice that might seem odd. The toy picked for the toy evaluation in child and developmental psychology class was a Transformer for the suggested age of 3. A brief description of the Transformer will be given to identify the characteristics and how they are suitable or not suitable for the recommended age listed. The toy will be analyzed on specific qualities that relate to how it can foster growth of the child and be evaluated on what the necessary abilities are needed to play with the unit. This toy will also be evaluated as it pertains to how the child would play with the car and if the child would be able to grasp the concept of the Transformer. Other cognitive concepts will be applied to how the Transformer is used and if the child is able to understand the Transformer.
A child’s interactions with the opposite gender at a young age has a much greater effect on their development than the types of toys that they play with. Focusing on how toys should be marketed to become gender-free is a waste of time. In Peggy Orenstein’s article “Should the World of Toys Be Gender-Free?” she has this main focus on the types of toys kids play with. I do not believe this has a great effect on child development.
In conclusion, I feel that Toy Story is a much more advanced film when compared to some of Disney’s other animated films. Apart from the obvious technological advances made in animation technology, it also appeals on a much deeper level. The camera angles and techniques used help to add to the “realism” of the film but still give it an edge of the unreal. The way it appeals on all levels to both adults and children is helped by the fact that there is no clean-cut good and evil and even the good characters aren’t perfect. This is something that Toy Story has over even its followers such as “A Bug’s Life”.
As a child, our toys were not exactly as gender neutral as earlier times, but also were not as gender stereotypic as the toys in today’s time. The fact that everyone eventually comes into contact with buying toys whether you have kids or you have a friend or family member who have kids which makes this an important topic. Eventually, everyone has to buy a child a present. Would it bother you that all toys are either pink or blue and there is no in between? Or does sticking to what your child is already familiar with and knows the more ideal option when it comes to gender stereotyping with children’s toys? Authors James Delingpole and Eleanor Muffitt both do a good job at arguing both sides to this issue. Although both authors provide valid points throughout each article, about gender stereotyping with toys, James Delingpole clearly was more effective in persuading the audience because he used all three elements; ethos, logos, and pathos to support his idea.

Now more than ever, child products are marketed specifically towards just girls or just boys, and not for children in general.
