Sectors of Leisure and Recreation for Football and Swimming
Introduction
============
I have chosen football and swimming as the sports for this
investigation. I felt football would be appropriate as it is a major
global industry, which generates billions of pounds. In the UK it is a
sport, which is of huge importance to all sections of the media.
[IMAGE]Statistics show that swimming is the most popular physical
sport (after walking) in the UK according to the national statistics
online 2002. However unlike football swimming suffers from a lack of
financial support, mainly because it is largely an amateur sport and
has very little media coverage. In my investigation I will look at
some of the differences and similarities between the two sports, and
will use areas like the scale of the sport, organisation and funding,
the impact of the mass media and future trends in my chosen sport to
allow me to make this comparison
The scale of football and its economic importance
=================================================
There are many different sectors in the football industry these
include;
Participants - professional (full and part time) and amateurs
Administration and Regulators - the football association (the sports
governing bodies) with its regional and local organisations and the
football league.
Professional football clubs - the majority of these are limited
companies (although there are an number of plc) with full and part
time employees in different area's such as safety, marketing,
merchandising, security, catering, administration and finance.
Professional footballers association - (PFA) this association is based
in London and Manchester, this is know as the professional body which
represents all professional players in England and Wales
Volunteers - nowadays thousands of people give up their own time to
coach or support the numerous local league clubs (male and female)
thorough the UK.
Referees association - this association is located in Coventry and has
350 local societies and represents over 17,000 referees in the UK. The
association provides referees with advice guidance and support.
Over the last several years, it has become undeniable that any kind of sport can, and will, be sensationalized and commercialized by the people from the great companies like “Coca-Cola, Pepsi Cola, and Marlboro” (1667). These companies have hundreds of thousands of dollars budgeted each year to pour into sports in the form of sponsorships, advertising, etc. Once the sponsorships are introduced into a sport, it is exactly the kind of thing that will push an athlete out of competition. An athlete will find himself in a “make-it or break-it” situation. If an athlete receives a sponsorship, then the money is free flowing for equipment, testing, training, etc – anything that the athlete wants or needs to aid in putting him...
The following is a case study analysis on SPORTPLAY. The case involves a man by the name of Chis who is the Executive Director of the Provincial Arts Board (PAB). Until recently PAB was receiving government funding but when PAB failed to satisfy three of the five standards for government funding, PAB fell victim to government funding cutbacks. These cutbacks led Executive Director Chris to begin searching for non-traditional types of funding. Chris ultimately came up with the idea to connect with sports communities that he knew were always in the need of financial assistance. His initial thought was that if he could legalize gambling on sporting events that he could alleviate both parties’ financial issues. With some luck and after four months of hard work Chris was able to get roughly 33 associations that consisted of sport and art. Even several politicians jumped around this idea because saw the potential in replacing all government support for elite sports and the art community (INSERT CITATION).
Sport as a whole has changed in relation to the contemporary American economy by its constant growth and push for revenue. It has become a sort of “you scratch my back, I scratch yours.” type of relationship. I say this because of the amount of time and attention invested into making sport something that appeals to all people of American society rather than just the fans of the action itself. The constant negotiations for television deals, sponsorships, competition with other TV shows, and programs for time slots available within a network all play a large factor.
After reading Chapter 15 on pages 667-675 in the Assessment Tools for Recreational Therapy and Related Fields book by Joan Burlingame on "Leisure Competence Measure", the two components I pick is The Need for Standardization components and Sensitivity to Diagnosis. The Need for Standardization: Maintains the effectiveness and efficiency interventions need to figure out the what is best fit for the client or what doesn’t work with the diagnose and problem. Recreation therapy need to compare the program and standardization of measurement to avoid unaccreted resolve to the client treatment. To make sure to have everything accurate need to measure the same outcome in a correct way and the result will follow through with the outcome. The Sensitivity
As a parent, all you ever want your kids to do is grow up and be something great. Parents expect their kids to have dreams of becoming a lawyer or majoring in topics like business and medicine. They don’t realize that some kids have goals like playing baseball in the major leagues or becoming a great fisherman that is on television. Not all kids have the same mind-set. People of all ages, all around the world, enjoy either watching or playing sports.
A directive is a final decision made by an official body which either has or has not a binding force.
Engaging in sports plays a significant role in promoting health and wellness among children and adolescents. Although sports participation provides numerous physical and social benefits, it also has a downside: the risk of sports-related injuries. Many children and adolescents are treated in the emergency department each year for sports and recreation-related injuries. However, by playing competitive sports, you can keep obesity rates down, you can have a very strong mental health, and lastly, you can insure a healthy lifestyle for your future self.
A large portion of the literature on sustainability focuses on the issues and the impacts in traditional sectors like energy, tourism etc. The purpose of this article is to highlight the sustainability issues in the sports industry, how the industry is affecting the environment, the roles played

The proposed research is on the impact of the hosting of the 2012 Olympics in London and its impact specifically on the hospitality industry. Other studies have been done on the impact of the Olympics viz. Olympics Games Impact Study (OIGS) which is a study by Price Water House Coopers in December 2005. It was commissioned by DCMS and the London Development Agency to assess the likely benefits of hosting the Olympics and Paralympics in 2012 in social and economic terms.
Youth sports can cause multiple problems for young athletes, but the solutions are simple. I have never played sports but I have many classmates who have, I can’t talk from experience but I can talk from hearing their painful stories. One of my friends had to stop playing sports because if she got hurt one more time it would be really really hard to even walk again. According to Scope magazine articles, “Playing with Pain” and “Travel Team Heartbreak” youth sports have become less fun and more dangerous. In “Playing with Pain” (12-15) Michelle Crouch reports that “Playing through pain is considered heroic, and winning is everything.” (14) She says that most teens live by that saying. They ignore the pain and it gets worse. The solution is
Discussions aforementioned demonstrated that both sex consumption and sports consumption were highly male-gendered in the past. Recent researches (e.g. Firat, 1994; Fausto-Sterling; McGinnis et at, 2003) illustrate that it is progressively blurreed and difficult to draw boundaries between male and female in the consumer culture. Firat (1994) asserted that it is getting difficult to conclude on the behavioural notion on gender, being feminine or masculine (Firat, 1994). Study of Risman (1994) denotes that gender (masculinity or femininity) influence diminishes in modern social structure (McGinnis et at, 2003). Consequently, consumer culture on sex and sports consumptions is less gendered phenomenon in the modern era.
As a kid my dad always took me to a field to play soccer. He once told me that you could never be too good. He reasoned that even when you felt you have mastered a certain exercise there would always be more room to improve. From shooting to passing, there was only one right way to get better. That’s how I felt going into my sophomore year as I was yet to decide if I wanted to play high school or club. As athletes we put many hours into something we love doing, but has there ever been a point in which you thought it was time to give up? Like Martin Luther king Jr. Once said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” Although goals
