Thank you for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship. As a first year graduate student enrolled in the Masters of Social Work program at Binghamton University, I have a deep interest in pursuing my education to establish a career in clinical social work. I envision myself in a position that provides mental health services to my community. I cannot imagine myself working in any field other than Social Work; I have been drawn to this field since my earliest childhood memory. In order to fulfill my career aspirations and obtain a license to practice, further education is essential. I consider myself to be an excellent candidate for this scholarship; I feel it is my life’s purpose. I possess the resolve to see this dream to fruition and require of myself to strive for excellence in my academics and career.
My former employment of five years was a primer for me to continue my education. As a case manager providing mediation services, I naturally developed many skills which are fundamental to the field. Active listening, reflecting back what was said, guiding the conversation between disputing parties to find common ground and facilitate negotiation are all invaluable lessons acquired as a byproduct of my years of training. I continue to mediate cases on a volunteer basis, which enables me to continue to build upon my expertise as a mediator. When agency wide state cutbacks forced an agency wide layoff, I took that opportunity to continue working on my academic ambitions. Thus far I have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Community and Human Services with a concentration in Mental Health from Empire State College. While studying for my Bachelor’s Degree I discovered my aspirations are attainable, to pursue my education so I may...

...taged population. I understand first-hand how powerful an impact understanding, patronage and reassurance can affect a person. My years of working for a non-profit agency and practicing mediation have helped me develop my communication skills, active listening, discern messages from body language, withhold judgment and guide participants to resolve conflict through discussion. As an active part of my community I volunteer as a New York State certified mediator helping people negotiate some highly charged emotional issues such as custody or visitation court ordered agreements. I have a strong dedication to the field, therefore, committed to absorbing as much as I can from my studies. I look forward to being able to apply the lessons I learned to my future endeavors. I am honored to be in consideration for this scholarship, once again, thank you for the opportunity.
I knew I loved to help others but it was not until I was an emerging adult that I knew what my calling was. My devotion to improve the quality of life for those who are disadvantaged is one of the reasons I have chosen to pursue a Master’s in Social Work. After obtaining my masters, I plan on diversifying my masters by getting licensed and becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I would like to study social work because I feel it will lead me directly to one of the most emotionally fulfilling careers available, as well as giving me the chance to combine helping people 's mental well being with their physical
I first became interested in social work when I took a human rights course as part of my political science major requirements. Throughout the course, I was fascinated and disturbed by the historic oppression of many large groups in society, and I realized my interests lie outside of the political arena; thus, I double-majored in social policy & practice because of my desire to learn more about how to enhance human well-being, fight social injustice, and pursue social change. I soon realized I wanted to pursue graduate social work education in order to gain a more holistic understanding of social problems and human ailments and, in turn, better understand the best ways to fix them. My background in political science and social policy gives me a unique perspective on the field of social work, as I have gained immense knowledge on social issues, the law, and public policy that will be useful in my graduate school and professional endeavors to fight for social justice and human rights.

Through a strong education, vast life experience and excellent training I will be better prepared to assist individuals and families achieve their highest
I come to Fordham University with expectations of completing my Masters of Art degree in Social Service. As a single parent, I have faced many challenges raising my special needs child. For many years now, advocates for giving out scholarships based only on financial need have been pushing to remove special abilities from the criteria to award the money. This proposed system is already in use in the form of financial aid. Scholarships were created to reward individuals who exhibited talent that would benefit the college. Therefore, the basis for giving scholarships should consist equally of scholastic achievement, athletic ability, and need. Scholarships are in place to reward special talents. They should remain separate from financial aid where the only determining factor is need.
My vision as a practitioner scholar in the field of psychology lies in clinical counseling. As a clinical counselor
The MSW degree along with my bachelors in psychology gives me a great opportunity to build my career as a social worker who will strive to act as a leader and empower others to help those in need. When I have gained efficient experience and expertise in my role as a social worker, I want to educate others on child welfare and family violence. Sharing knowledge and educating is a boundless way to make an impact and promote resilience within the
Choosing a career is a very important aspect to people’s lives. One goes to college, usually around the age of eighteen, and by the time they leave they are expected to have decided on the career that they will have for the rest of their lives. Being a psychology and interpersonal communication major, I have always had an interest on relationships between individuals given certain stimuli presented to them. I want to have the ability to touch people’s lives by helping them understand themselves and why they behave the way in which they behave. Relationships are such an important aspect to the process of human growth, and they impact each and every one of us. Due to this assessment of myself, I have decided to go to college to pursue my goals of being a clinical social worker.
My current job as a Behavioral Intervention Specialist for Bakersfield City School District has motivated me to pursue my masters in social work. Working with troubled students on a daily basis has allowed me to see the great need for social workers at schools. Many students are not successful in school due to their emotional and social issues in their daily lives. I want to be a professional social worker so I can better understand behavior, trauma, and learn of more ways to assist the students at my school. I truly feel The Master of Social Work (MSW) program will prepare me to help create that change in the schools that is desperately needed.
As a student who began her college career without specific objectives, I never thought I would be writing a personal statement for an application to receive a Master’s Degree in the social work profession. However, I feel now that there is no other future for me than that of offering my education and personal commitment to vulnerable individuals in order to stabilize their lives. After careful consideration of all areas of social work, I have found that my main area of interest is in providing resources and encouragement for individuals with disabilities to gain the freedom to live independent lifestyles without discrimination. My personal goal in this profession is to make every possible effort in assisting these individuals with finding the means to satisfy their needs.

There are many good athletes in professional sports today. There are many good athletes in college sports today also. Some of the biggest names in sports are Mark McGwire, Steve Young, Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson, and so on. Now, imagine if all of those players never made it to the pros. What would happen to professional sports? Why are they in the pros now? To make it into professional sports you need more than just talent. You need opportunity. College scholarships not only give athletes the opportunity to reach the professional ranks, but also give the chance for many players to earn a degree in higher education.
I hope to be selected for the San Jose State University scholarship because I would love to succeed in my Linguistics program. I am a transfer student from Sacramento which is a city two hours away from San Jose, and relocating to study linguistics will end my job contract therefore I will not have the means to afford the TESOL program. Ever since I received my acceptance letter, I have contemplated how to afford the campus tuition and housing because I am reaching the limit on my student loan amount. The scholarship will allow me to complete my studies at San Jose and lessen the stress of tuition.
My passion to become a social worker began when I was pursuing an undergraduate degree. From a young age because of my compassion and empathetic nature, I knew that I wanted to work inside the human service field. I wanted to use my personal characteristics to improve individual’s lives. Social work was my calling because of the many different areas in the field that are all primarily focused on making a difference. I am interested in clinical social work, working with individuals and families.
I am almost certain that I will attend and receive a full scholarship to North Carolina Wesleyan College. I will be more surprised if I do not receive a full scholarship. Over the past two weeks I have researched the requirements and average scores of the student body and I place exceptionally well among them. My position as a transfer student from Nash Community College also compounds on my chances. I feel extremely confident regarding my future as a result.
