Saint Damien of Molokai was a missionary to Hawaii, and ended up sacrificing his life to improve the leper colony of Molokai. Saint Damien cared for and wanted to help the ailing lepers of all ages. Saint Damien’s devotion to help the lepers was so strong he decided to stay on Molokai permanently. After contracting leprosy, he continued to help the other lepers out of the kindness of his heart. Saint Damien of Molokai was a martyr of charity because of his undying will to help the lepers on Molokai. Saint Damien cared for and wanted to help the ailing lepers of all ages. While Saint Damien of Molokai was serving at several parishes on Oahu, he learned of the health problems on Hawaii. Europeans and Chinese workers brought various diseases, including leprosy, to the native people. Out of the fear of leprosy spreading to others, the Hawaiian government ordered all lepers to be sent to medical quarantine on the island of Molokai. The leper colony was poorly run, and lacked proper medical care. Thinking the colony could use help from a Catholic priest, Bishop Louis Désiré Maigret, the bishop of Honolulu, asked for Catholic priests to volunteer to help out the lepers on Molokai. Despite the health risks and out of …show more content…
After working on the colony for 11 years, Saint Damien contracted leprosy. However, he did not let this stop him from his work. With the help of four other people sent to help him during his ailing years, he continued to work at a vigorous pace. He continued to build homes, treat fellow lepers, enlarge the orphanages, and plan the future of the programs he established until his death five years later. Despite suffering from leprosy at the end of his life, he continued to work as hard as he was before contracting the disease. Saint Damien of Molokai was a martyr of charity because of his undying will to help the lepers on
John Papa ‘I’i was born in Waipio, Oahu on August 3, 1800, with the birth name Keoni Kalekane. A series of events altered his name to become the famous alias, he is he is now referred to by: John Papa ‘I’i. He adopted the name “Papa” after his uncle, who had been his guardian in early adolescence. He presumably acquired the name “‘I’i”, due to the exclamation Liholiho made when they first became acquainted. ‘I’i then took the name of “John” when he was converted to Christianity soon after the missionary’s arrival in the islands. John Papa ‘I’i was a subject of the Hawaiian Kingdom and was of Hawaiian ethnicity. He passed away on May 2, 1870 at the age of 70, and was laid to rest in the Oahu Cemetery.
... of saint because he had the strongest desire to do good for others. He exemplified great virtue and because of this a community was able to move forward.
...lt the church grew in size. Saint Damien also improved the lives of the lepers so much that their lifestyle became that of non-lepers. Robert Louis Stevenson describes Molokai after Saint Damien’s death.
He thought of priests as superheroes and he would often pretend to be one at home. Andre’s parents, sister, friends, and extended family always knew of his desires to become a priest and these desires only blossomed as he grew older. And even though his life took little a turn at the age of seven, when his father passed away from cancer at the young age of thirty-nine, his beliefs only grew deeper. This was a hard grieving period for both him and the rest of his family; however, through their faith life they were able to transform this pain into a deeper reality of understanding Heaven and who Jesus was. Another influence on Andre’s vocation choice was his childhood priest. As he stated “Praise God I had a good priest growing up because he was a great inspiration.” This particular priest showed him an example of a real authentic and love filled priesthood. This priest had later been diagnosed with cancer when Andre was around the age of eleven and had to go
...spread their religion and did not stop until their death. It is interesting to find out that there were people like that , that dedicated so much of their lives for a cause. I am sure other saints accomplished as much as St. Boniface, but to my knowledge, he seemed like the most active and aggressive. He not only prayed for change, he went out and made it happen. He took journey’s that lasted years, traveled aimlessly at times, from one ship to another converting pagans and spreading the word as he went along. He even went on these missions in his elder years, though dangerous for his age, he continued until his death.
The article starts off with the story of a young 12-year-old boy named John Brimah. Brimah had leprosy as a child, and was banished from his village, fortunately Brimah was rescued and later in his life became a nurse helping people who have leprosy like he once did.

But still, some were still selfish and did not appreciate him and his work. Those people think high on themselves and think that they are better than the others. That’s just because their hearts are not pure, their mind is not set to the correct way of life. And they’re living their life the wrong way. The right thing to do might not always be the easiest, but most importantly it is the responsible thing to do. For example, Mother Teresa surrendered her heart and soul in order to help others and make their life better. Even most of them were diseased in a dangerous way, she didn’t cared, because she knew that they weren’t only hungry for bread and thirsty for water, they were also hungry for love. They wanted to know that they are special and perfect for someone, that someone cares for them, that they aren’t just a dead weight for some people. Mother Teresa won a Nobel prize for peace, and a big amount of cash, but she didn’t accepted them because she knew that money are the root of all evil and that if we can’t be there one for another, then we’ve lost our purpose. The meaning of life isn’t about being rich on cash
Also, now left the village Saint Kateri would put thorns on her bed, fast often, and one time she had burned herself; so that she would live like Jesus. Saint Kateri was known to be very devoted to God, and do what she thought God would appreciate. After all of the suffering Saint Kateri put herself through made her become sickly and that's when she had died only five years after she had converted. An interesting fact is that Saint Kateri’s shrine is where Kateri was baptised. Also, she was baptised on an Easter Sunday, on April 6, 1676. Kateri's last words were, “Jesus, I love you.” Saint Kateri Tekakwitha became a Saint because she did what was right by God, and stood up for what she knew was
As growing up Jewish, my family converted to Catholicism because it was difficult to have freedom and be accepted by the society for our different beliefs. I was born on December 14th, 1503 in Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France. My grand father Jean De St. Remy saw potential in me and introduced me to the first principles of Greek, Latin, astrology, and mathematics. My family named me Michel De Notredame and I live quite well since the fact my grandfathers were doctors in the court of King René of Provence. When I was fourteen I went to the University of Avignon to study medicine but later forced to leave due to an outbreak of the Black Death. Later, I pursued my doctorate in medicine at the University of Montpelier. Although, living conditions were filthy and harsh it made the plague spread rapidly. When treating people, I knew the right conditions and precautions to avoid contracting the plague.
Agnes Bohaxhiu, other wise known as Mother Teresa, is known worldwide as one of the most remarkable missionaries. Following the call of her Lord, Mother Teresa traveled to the slums of India to serve Christ. Her work was based on the verse, Matthew 25: 35:
...tous. Perceiving that he had come to the end of his days, he asked to be brought to the Porziuncola, in Santa Maria degli Angeli, the place from which his message was spread. During the last years of his relatively short life (he died at 45) he was half blind and seriously ill. Two years before his death, he received the stigmata, the real and painful wounds of Christ in his hands, feet and side. On his deathbed, he said over and over again the last addition to his Canticle of the Sun, "Be praised, O Lord, for our Sister Death." He sang Psalm 141, and at the end asked his superior to have his clothes removed when the last hour came and for permission to expire lying naked on the earth, in imitation of his Lord. Francis' final years were filled with suffering as well as humiliation. When he began to go blind, the pope ordered that his eyes be operated on. This meant cauterizing his face with a hot iron.
Besides the Mystery of God taught by Padre Pio, he had his own mysteries. After celebrating a Mass on September 20, 1918, he had received the “Stigmata”. His hands, side and feet were scarred with the same wounds of Christ; he was the first priest ever to have received the gift of Stigmata along with other gifts which later declared him a Saint. The news of this spread all over the world and people flocked to witness this miracle. Scientists had examined the wounds over and over but could never come up with an explanation. He had performed many miracles which included curing a blind little girl without pupils in her eyes to see again, and she is still alive today to tell her story. Padre Pio was also rewarded by God with other magnificent gifts such as bilocation which was Padre Pio’s ability to visit and needy in far places from where he was without ever leaving, also the gift of perfume which was the beautiful odor of roses that marked Padre Pio’s presence, and the gift of conversion which was his ability to make remarkable conversions of peoples choices or views.
There are a lot of great stories but, this story of Mathew is incredible. Many have know Mathew since freshman year and some even became close to him, building lasting and good friendships. He’s confident, has a good humor, is humble, and courageous. But getting to know him more and more, one can find out a lot of things about him. Furthermore, Mathew is that type of person who has a lot of dreams and goals that he wants to accomplish. For instance, one of his goals is to finish high school, but he has some problems with that. He is always distracted with his other friends. Some of those friends told him to not worry about school because school is not important for them. Mathew thought right away that he picked some bad people as friends.
Jesus Christ was the light that came to earth to brighten the lives of the people. He taught phenomenal and meaningful lessons that changed many hearts and caused people to accept Jesus as their Lord. Jesus Christ is the life of Christianity; the Word of God in flesh. His life, his ministry, and his crucifixion where prophesied long before he was born and Christians believe that they were all fulfilled. He had so much love for human kind that he came to earth to die for the sins of the people, so that their souls would be able to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. The Bible testifies that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who taught memorable life lessons and performed astonishing miracles during his ministry.
