Under these Articles, states maintained their independence and sovereignty. As Armitage asserts “Each of the 13 states had a vote in the weak national Congress (appointed by the state governments), while a vote of 9 states was required in order to pass any laws and a unanimous vote of all 13 states was required for the Articles to be amended.” The weaknesses of the Articles arose from its central call for an alliance that gave sovereign power to all the states. This is evident in Article number II that states “Each state retains its sovereignty, freedom, and independence, and every power, jurisdiction, and right, which is not by this Confederation expressly delegated to the United States, in Congress assembled” (Rodgers). The Founding Fathers facilitated the distribution of sovereignty because colonists worried about the strength of national governments and thus did not involve themselves in the process. Also, the founding fathers were suspicious of their colonists and thus did not encourage their involvement in the process. Elliot holds that “having dealt with the British Crown for so many years, the American colonies did not want to create yet another out-of-touch, national government.” Additionally, Americans held dearly their freedom and would only strongly accept self-established colonies. As such, it seemed normal to create own government grounded on sovereign state governments.
The mention of grey is repeated to give a feeling of a cold scene when setting is described as, “sky seemed a gray mantle… troubled gray fowl… flights of troubled gray vapours.”(Melville 110) The use of the color provokes a calm and quiet feeling with a clear but dingy picture. Repeatedly describing the surroundings as grey emphasizes a slow feeling that would soon quicken into a more dramatic situation or drag out for a lengthy pace. America spent a long time in the dark period of enslaving Africans into a ‘grey’ period when Americans were unsure how to treat African Americans. Later, Captain Delano examines the look of the Spaniard’s clothes he observes, “invariable adjunct… of a South American gentleman's dress,” (Melville 136) described to such detail, as though the American is looking at the clothes to find out what kind of man Cereno is. Though Delano observes, “contortions brought about disarray,” he contradicts himself with, “there was a certain precision in his attire.”(Melville 136) Delano can’t decide how he feels about those around him, as the classic America believes everyone has their own rights but the rights are only limited to certain groups of people, not including African
What is social media? According to Merriam Webster, it a “form of electronic communication through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content.” “While the Internet has always allowed individuals to participate in media not only as consumers but also as producers, the social aspect of media did not flourish until the 2000s (Media Convergence).” Social media is perceived negatively primarily through the eyes of older generations simply because they did not have the advanced technology we do in this day and age. Social media has been described as one of the worst things that has happened to society but I disagree. I believe that social media is beneficial in the way
Growing up learning and speaking English has been something that was difficult for me at first but then came easy, but that was not the case for my mother. She spent her whole life speaking Spanish, so when she decided to take English learning classes it was challenging. However, she had me to help her throughout her struggle. I helped her complete her homework and assignments. We would also go to the library to check out easy level reading books to have her read to me. I would correct her English when it was wrong and do all I could to boost her confidence. It took me a while to understand and figure out what the best way to teach her was, but it was a fun experience for the both of us. Teaching her English was difficult because things that
“India is the meeting place of the religions and among these Hinduism alone is by itself a vast and complex thing, not so much a religion as a great diversified and yet subtly unified mass of spiritual thought, realization and aspiration”(Sri Aurobindo). Hindus believe in karma, which means that the actions that are made will affect this life or the lives to come (Fisher 120). Reincarnation is a rebirth in a new life (Fisher 120). In Hinduism the roles that the women play in their society is similar to Rukmani’s in Nectar in a Sieve. Hindu women take care of the children and help the husband with farm work or any other work ("Hindu Beliefs"). The three main themes in the book that connect to the Hindu religion are Humans choose their actions which cause happiness or sadness, suffering purifies for the soul, and truth is the most important moral value to have. Every action made by humans is based on a choice the outcome could be happy or sad.
Würtz (2006) emphasized on message speed, time attitude, navigation and transparency. Hall and Hall (as cited in Würtz, 1990) defined that in a high context culture, the most of the people takes heaps of time to understand the message. (1990, p.5). The high context Asian website gives user to different types of navigation which will be appearing on top of the page and at the bottom of the page as well. Furthermore, it could be in the form of link and that would be open in new window or might be open in same window. Moreover, high context culture contains more images, graphical representation and less text compare to low context culture. Transparency is processed in such a form that is easy for users to see what actions are performed in website. In addition, sometimes a high context website gives a less transparent overview of the content compared to low context sites (p. 291).
is very much in use today and is prominent in the field of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), with Google and other search-engines using it to help people look up things quicker by offering a wider range of results as well as suggesting and automatically filling up the search-bar with what it thinks you will search for. Google (like a woman) starts suggesting things before you can even finish your sentence, speeding up the searching process.
Search engines have many capabilities from using key words or phrases to find what you are looking for to using general statements to browse the web. But what exactly is a search engine? Search engines are huge databases of web page files that have been assembled automatically by machine. There are two types of search engines. One type is the individual search engine. This type of search engine compiles its information on to its own database making it accessible when you use that particular engine. It does not use any other engine?s information to help with your search. Then there are the meta-searchers which do not have their own databases. They use a combination of individual search engine?s information simultaneously, from a single site and using the same interface. Meta-searchers provide a quick way of finding out which engines are retrieving the best results for you in your search. There are two ways that Meta-searchers show their results. Most use a single list which display multiple-engine search results in a single merged list and had removed all the duplicate entries from the list. The second way that they display their results is through multiple lists. These are separate lists in which are displayed as they are received from each engine leaving the duplicate entries on the list.
When a user searches for something such as ‘design blogs’ they will then see more adverts design appear. If the user was then to go and search for something such as ‘iPod’ the search engine will remember that they have previously searched for ‘design’ and therefor it might show results that combine ‘design’ and ‘iPods’

Many advertisers are spending time and money on online technologies. More marketers are advertising on internet and more companies are doing online business as well, so this is increasing the revenue of online media. Newspaper advertisement is declining because internet advertisement is facilitating both the marketers and the consumers. (Evans, David S. 2009)

Social media has changed the way that we communicate with others through using these common social networking sites like Face book, Twitter, and Instagram…For that, social media has positively and negatively impacted our life.
Coming from a Spanish speaking household having to learn a new language can always be difficult. While, I was a child learning a second language was difficult. It was difficult for me to put words to use in the correct way. And use terms that make sense with one another term. It was difficult for me because some Spanish words sound the same as English words, and while learning I wanted to translate everything the way I say it in Spanish to English. For example, in Spanish “helo” means ice, but if you say it out loud it sounds like “yellow”. Little things like that will be a big issue to me. I have to put up with many looks from others and hear all sorts of criticism around me. Learning a new language at a young age was a struggle with reading
