“The Princess Who Could Not Dance” written by Ruth Plumly Thompson is about a Princess, named Dianidra, who could not master the art of dancing. Out of the ten kingdoms, she was the only one who couldn’t dance. This upset her parents and the kingdom, so Dianidra decided to run away. As she went about her journey, Dianidra came across an old lady, who turned into a fairy and helped Dianidra learn to dance. Disney should turn “The Princess Who Could Not Dance” into a movie because of it’s characters, romance, and differences from most Disney movies. The right characters are always important for a successful Disney movie. “The Princess Who Could Not Dance” incorporates similar characters throughout this tale. Just like the Princesses, such as Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, have their fairies incorporated into the story, Dianidra has a fairy of her own to help her learn to …show more content…
Whether it be Sleeping Beauty and Snow White being woken up with a true love’s kiss or Cinderella and Rapunzel being rescued by their one true love. Romance is inevitable and it seems to come up in “The Princess Who Could Not Dance”. This Princess is trying to learn to dance, so she can attend a prestigious ball and find her Prince Charming. In most stories, the characters seem to fall in love quite quickly, which happens to be the same in this story as well. “But when they saw Dianidra, they ceased their crabishness and weepishness straight off, and when the Prince on his bended knee asked for the hand of the Princess, they were overjoyed and delighted - which is the way of Kings and Queens. So Diandra and the Prince were married in a year and a day” (Thompson 2). This goes to show that this particular fairy tale goes right along with other Disney movies, and makes it the perfect fit. Similarities are a big factor between all Disney movies, so some think that this makes them too repetitive and there should be some difference in each
Princess stories tend to stray away from traditional hero stories in one aspect or another. The story of Tiana and her frog husband is no different.
It all begins with “Once upon a time” and ends with “and they lived happily ever after”. “Cinderella” is a very widely known story that many children around the world look up to and admire through their entire life. The history of this story, how scholars interpret this tale, and how the authors have retold the story are all key points to keeping this story fresh and popular. Most of the time when people hear the story of “Cinderella”, they think about the Disney version and maybe it is time that changes. All in all, the story brings light to everyone’s life even if they only know the original “Cinderella”.
It shows that during those harsh times, their love was strong enough to even risk the anger of their parents. In my opinion, unrequited love is the most painful type of love there is in this play. The main example of this is the sad situation of Helena and Demetrius during the early stages of the play. Helena is madly in love with Demetrius and would give her life for just one kind word from him. In this play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, true love plays a huge role in the play.
Both Petipa and Tchaikovsky still did not like the story and refused to work on the project. Petipa did not think the story was right for ballet dancing. He did not feel that Marie, the main character, was a strong enough character to dance. He did try to write a scenario for the ballet, but he could not think of anything past the scene of what we know of as the kingdom of snow. After Petipa gave up, Vsevolojsky begged and persisted with Petipa to try again. He convinced Petipa and this time he created a new character called the Sugarplum fairy. This character was not in either of the original stories. She was to be the main character, rather than Marie, and she would be the ruler of the Kingdom of Sweets. Petipa felt that this character could dance the big scenes better than the character Marie.
Walt Disney needed to change his version and many of his other fairy tales and in doing so started a change in the way we see fairy tales. Ask someone today to define a fairy tale and they will tell you along the lines of a beautiful woman put threw hardships that in the end of the story gets the man and becomes a queen of her own castle.
The original Disney fairytales portray their princesses as beautiful, elegant, and very ladylike. Although this is portrayed in most fairytales, it is not a qualifying factor to determine if a film is a fairytale or not. In the movie Shrek, Princess Fiona starts out as a very stereotypical girl, but as the movie progresses, she becomes more comfortable and starts to break these stereotypes. For example when Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey are walking back through the woods Fion...
of the Cinderella story are psychologically harmful to women.” (p648). The fact that Cinderella is a limited character may give the girl an impression that she should be happy with what she has and not have any or aspirations in her life. That is, until her Prince comes to rescue her. Since these comments were made, the Cinderella story has been modified and changed. In order to see how gender roles have changed in fairy tales from the old to the new, let’s compare the classic version of Cinderella by Charles Perrault to a recent version which is a movie that was released in 1998 called “Ever After”which was directed by Andy Tennant.
There are many complications that can be attributed to true love. These complications affect not only the lovers but also the nature around them. Some of these complications include jealousy and misjudgment. All of these obstacles support the fact that the course of true love never runs smooth. Although true love is treasured, there are definitely hindrances and impediments that come with it. In the case of the lovers in A Midsummer’s Night Dream, they all were granted the joys of true love, but also endured the complications that came as a price. Every one of them could testify that the course of true love never has and never will run smoothly.
First, I would like to talk about the love between Rosalind and Orlando. From the beginning of the play, the reader can clearly sense them are the hero and the heroine of the story. Rosalind is beautiful, and Orlando is handsome, the way they fell in love at first sight is traditional, Orlando’s good nature and bravery won her heart in Act 1, Scene 2. However, if it was just like that, it would be a bit boring, therefore, a new dimension was added to this love when Rosalind was banished by Duke Frederick in A1 S3, and decided to disguise as a male- Ganymede and escape to the Forest of Arden. Their love was tested by the new gender of Rosalind.
In both of these two texts, the archetype “star-crossed lovers” is being shown. According to both of the pieces of research I used, these two people stayed in contact with each other because love makes you excited. Because of this, people favor the archetype star-crossed lovers over conflicts between them and other people. During this time, Cinderella and the prince showed the archetype star-crossed
Love plays a very significant role in this Shakespearian comedy, as it is the driving force of the play: Hermia and Lysander’s forbidden love and their choice to flee Athens is what sets the plot into motion. Love is also what drives many of the characters, and through readers’ perspectives, their actions may seem strange, even comical to us: from Helena pursuing Demetrius and risking her reputation, to fairy queen Titania falling in love with Bottom. However, all these things are done out of love. In conclusion, A Midsummer Night’s Dream displays the blindness of love and how it greatly contradicts with reason.
Fairytales are vital to teach kids morals and lifelong lessons. Most children grow up watching a variety of Disney movies. A personal favorite of some little girls is Beauty and the Beast. The original Disney movie was recreated in 2017 with real actors, instead of animation, which is what we will be comparing with. What some people don’t know, is where this story originated from.
If you are looking for a quality animated movie about a princess, or a girl wanting to find love, looking for it in the 1994 Don Bluth film Thumbelina is - like the word the titular character constantly uses - impossible. In fact, the film Thumbelina is the reason why princess films need to be done by Disney and only Disney. While the film had great animation, the writing of this film was anything but great. You know someone should have gotten fired from the writing team when Samson and Delilah and Romeo and Juliet were used as a metaphor for a "happy love story". One of the biggest issues with the story writing had to be the lack of a developed conflict.
Throughout history, fairy tales have grown to captivate the hearts and minds of many. A Cinderella Story is set firmly in reality and in the present day; in fact, it's every bit a fantasy as the original story. This film refrains from any allusions to magic, but instead lets serendipitous occurrences provide the engine on which this fairy tale creates its plot. The impression A Cinderella Story is in place of a well-thought out story and characters that anyone could relate to or believe. Although the target audience of the film are teens, females, and romantics, A Cinderella Story can be praised and savored by all audiences because of its ingenious screenplay, acting, and melodic soundtrack.
Cinderella’s mother passed away and her father remarried a woman who had two daughters from a previous marriage. A few weeks passed and a prince is holding a three day festival and all the beautiful young girls in the town were invited. Cinderella wanted to go but her evil stepmother gave her two impossible tasks to complete before she could attend the festival. Cinderella completes the two tasks with the help of her bird friends and her mother’s grave. Cinderella goes to the festival and she dances with the prince all three days. Finally, the prince has fallen in love with her and eventually they get married. Fairytales and Disney productions threaten gender politics and women’s role by portraying women in certain areas like domestic behaviors
