Abstract-Sustainable transport refers to any means of transport with low impact on the environment, and includes walking and cycling, as well as technology to move people, goods, and information in ways that reduce its impact on the environment, the economy, and society.Ropeways may well provide the most elegant connection between urban centres and passenger transport systems on both sides of the water, while ferries and, possibly bridges, can be optimised for vehicle and goods transport. Smaller and medium-sized developing cities, especially ones which are dense and compact, have great potential to develop sustainable transport systems.Ropeways don't provide a free ride and a number of energy consumptions do contribute to the operating bill. …show more content…
Dombivli being busiest stations on centre line, the Manpada road attracts huge traffic. Kalyan, Dombivli are developed as residential hub of MMR. The area is mainly developed as the job feeder for capital city of Mumbai. Due to major job opportunities but lack of affordable housing in Mumbai, people have shifted away from island city for affordable and better standard of living. Manpada road also serves as link between Navi Mumbai and KDMC. Navi Mumbai being newly developed, it also attracts heavy traffic. Thus adding to its importance.Selection of the most appropriate mass transit mode can be difficult to all those who are interested in a new medium to high-capacity transit system for their city and want to manage the investment and maintenance costs of their new public mass transit system. Buses are the backbone of the public transport system for many cities, and will remain so, for the foreseeable future. A positive reallocation of road space from cars to buses will assist operations and will capitalise on the efficiency of buses in using that road space, but even this option is not available in this case. So instead of growing horizontally, we should focus on growing vertically. The ropeways are ideal in special situations just like

Finding ways to move goods from one point to another at a reasonable cost and within an acceptable time frame is a growing challenge for global businesses today. The costs and risks associated with transportation are increasing with the advent of globalization and low-cost-country sourcing. Even for companies with local operations only, they have to supply their products to various parts of a country which increases the costs and risks. Since the cost of gasoline has been on an upward trend, high level of efficiency in transportation is required to lower the costs involved and the risks associated with the costs. Costs concepts in transportation include economic, social and accounting costs. The risks and costs involved increases if the various modes of transport are used. There has been concern over many businesses failure to strategically think when they employ multimodal transportation services. Many businesses prefer the least expensive multimodal model instead of choosing the most effective; this trade-off is very expensive with hidden costs and risks increasing significantly (Molenaar, Anderson, Schexnayder, National Research Council (U.S.)., National Cooperative Highway Research Program., American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials., & United States, 2010).
Anna Nagar is surrounded by some of the developed localities in Chennai; they are Kilpauk, Shenoy Nagar, Koyambedu, Villivakkam, Arumbakkam, Padi, Korattur, Mogappair and Ayanvaram. The modes of transportation in this area are bus and share auto (which is a common mode of transport nowadays). There are two bus terminuses in Anna Nagar, one in east and the other in west. The residents can board buses from any of these depots to reach prominent places in Chennai like Parrys, T.Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur and Adyar. The good news is that proposed metro rail line 2 will pass via Anna Nagar East, Anna Nagar West and Thirumangalam and the work is under construction right now. The metro rail stretch from Chennai to Anna Nagar is proposed to be underground and the remaining stretch will be elevated.
Istanbul, as told, is an extremely crowded city with over 14 million citizens living in just 5,343 square kilometers (“Istanbul”). Around 11.5 million passengers travel all around Istanbul every day (“İstanbul`da Toplu Taşıma”). The fact that the city is divided into two different sides by the Marmara Sea makes the traffic even worse. The 1.4 km long undersea tunnel is now operating in order to reduce the amount of traffic at the two Bosphorus bridges along with the underground tunnel. The total length of the rail line will be 76.3 km with 40 stations, but n...
The Golden Quadrilateral comprises of the NH4 Highway from National Highway 4 (NH 4) is a major National Highway in Western and Southern India. NH 4 links four of the 10 most populous Indian cities - Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, and Chennai. NH 4 is 1,235 km (767 mi) in length and passes through the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Road transport has emerged as the dominant segment in India’s transportation sector with a share of 4.7 per cent in India’s GDP in comparison to railways that had a 1 per cent share of GDP in 2009-10 as per the data on National Accounts released by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO).
The famous trolley problem describes a scenario where the train track has lost its breaks and is speeding up toward a junction. There are two pathways the train operator can take, either continue the current course, where five people are working on the rails, or switch to the alternative route, where only one person is situated. Taking either direction would result in casualties. The philosophers add an extra twist to the scenario by offering an alternative option: imagining that there is a bridge right above the train tracks, and right on that bridge is a gargantuan man. If one would throw this man down before the train, his bodily weight could stop the speeding train.
To convert an area into most of pedestrian zone, a very important factor required is the presence of alternative routes for diversion

But then local happen to be the fastest way to travel. However, the other 4.2 million people ride on buses, while 12 million use public transit per day. Likewise, traffic congestion is a major problem as 2 million four-wheel vehicles were sharing the roads. The massive challenges in the urban economy demands efficient mobility and due time shortage. Mega cities to improve transportation challenges to increase efficient movement between airports, main railway stations, central business districts, seaports, manufacturing areas, and markets. This assist on fast long distance connections like high-speed rail, flyovers, and subways. Likewise, short distance connections in the transportation include, buses, taxis, rickshaws, and pedestrian bridges. Auto Rickshaws are all throughout the city, and go through narrow lanes. This is comparatively cheaper than taxis, which is a convenient option to commute in Mumbai. From corner, to corner streets yellow black taxis in Mumbai is convenient to everywhere. Mumbai taxis are conditioned cabs, comfortable but more expensive then Auto Rickshaws, due to its undoubtable facilities. Buses, are also offered in very corner of the city.

This paper aims at providing more information concerning the different modes of transport, their characteristics and also the comparison of these modes with one another in an effort to establish the best mode of transport for specific commodities. The paper also takes into consideration the various factors affecting the transport sector; such as cost of transportation, flexibility, time factor and reliability. Transport refers to the process that enables physical movement of goods and people from on area to another. Transport is very important in the sense that it ensures availability of raw materials to manufactures, producers and also to construction sites (Clifford Winston,?2010). It makes sure that goods are available
Hong Kong has developed a way of improving mobility and accessibility while reducing car dependence and deferring the need for further road and parking expansions. For the TRL to become more popular to the public, its performance in terms of waiting time, travel time, transfer time, etc. must satisfy the public needs. It must also be financially sustainable, with affordable fares and still maintain high quality. In Hong Kong, the transit system provides complete coverage to all of Hong Kong. The walking time, in Hong Kong, between the passenger’s starting point and the location of boarding are an estimated four minutes.
We all use vehicles for transportation. People usually go to their desired destination either by driving their own cars or traveling in public transportation. Actually, it might be tough to choose that which one is the best selection for people to travel. Many people choose one of them according to their comfort while traveling and both of them have advantages and disadvantages in different conditions. Public transportation and driving own car both shares differences and similarities in many aspects, such as facility, cost, and comfort as well as traffic jam and accident occurrence.
Traffic congestion, is one of the major problems faced in the capitals and major cities in most countries. As with the increase in the growth rate, comes the growing demand for the use of transportation. This works with the response to the needs of the community.
Rail transportation is a transportation in which for movement of people and goods which from one location to another destination. Rail had been takes the important role in physical and economic development of town and cities in a country and it was developed over the world. Rail transport can be made a property value in a country increase and it must be needs improvement in transportation network expanding (Goldberg, 1970). Thus, the railway services need to be done with continuous improvement and it is important to the rail passengers of the range and quality of facilities and service on stations and trains (Gleave, S. D., 2000). The future development to a public transportation is a key to affect
