Romeo And Juliet Memorial Analysis

My memorial represents all the pain of a lot of characters in the book Romeo and Juliet. It would be in the middle of the city, at the center of town in Verona where all the events of what happened in the book began. Each character of the book is in a brick in a staircase style memorial representing the whole of pain what Romeo and Juliet endured as well as caused scene by scene. The characters will be on each side of the memorial to show both of them on two sides. When someone goes to this memorial they should feel content and pity, content for having what they have as well as pity for all who suffered in the play for they could only imagine the dramatic horror of being born to either side Capulet or Montague then falling in love with the other side. It goes from bottom to top each character in the major part in each scene, starting with Gregory at the bottom in which he along with Sampson attempted

to start a fight with Abraham going along lines of aggressor and victim.

As Gregory is showing holding the weight of the next brick with his shoulders representing consequences, Abraham is holding his hands out like he didn’t do anything as he is a victim.

The statute of the memorial will be marble as it represents its italian heritage, the golden ring on top will have the words “I LOVE THEE” their on top in big letters. The ring will have the signature letters of Romeo and Juliet, r and j to the left of r is a poison bottle with a skull represent death with the lion mask next to it representing the beginning of love of both of them. To the left of the ring will be a sleeping potion representing sleep of Juliet in order to reunite with Romeo and a dagger which represents death of them both in order from right to left. Capulet and Montague symbols will be on opposite sides of each representing pride of themselves with both having the other characters died both all on one side either Romeo and Juliet. In the second scene as it is the second brick the history of both is remembered and explained from two side points, again Romeo and

Juliet.

Mercutio in the third brick has blood near his heart representing his near death, with Queen Mab near his arm representing his belief in wise dreams to learn from. His rapier is drawn and holding the weight of the top as he faces Tybalt only to be slain by him with cut indirectly caused by Romeo. Tybalt as well has a mark on his clothes as he has been killed by Romeo in a swordfight, his scowl is of disgust with his rage burning at Mercutio for getting in his way. Paris is their grinning frighteningly because his distinct extreme want for Juliet, his rapier is drawn with his heart pierced as Romeo kills him. In a way he represents Romeo for being passionate to a woman who doesn’t want him but he doesn’t give up. Rosaline is their mirroring Juliet as she doesn’t want any suitors and she doesn’t get any as she becomes a nun.

The purpose of this memorial is to remember the terror of being in Verona during these times and all the stress as well as burden as loving someone you aren’t allowed to love (Romeo and Juliet) with all those dragged down with them in a way. The theme is shown in the memorial in the way how everyone and everything in the memorial is struggling to hold up their part in a way to support the time showing angst. Controversy and obstacles I would expect to come up against would be finding enough marble for the 40 yard wide 10 feet tall structure, the right to use these characters in my design without sided accusations, and the right to put it right where the story began. I would use small loans to get some marble out-of-state if I can’t get enough in Verona, explain to them that this is an apolitical memorial, and make a compromise by offering them more tourist attraction thus more money to put it there.
