Sophocles achieves this spiritual renewal by how the characters manage to realize the tragic situation. For example, Oedipus and Jocasta choose to let their bad fate control their lives, while Creon prospers from Oedipus’ fate. catastrophe: Explain the various ways the characters manage the realization of this tragic situation. For Oedipus, he blinded himself because he did not want to see all the evil actions he has done and he believed suicide was not a big enough consequence for his actions. On the other hand, Jocasta hung herself because she could not bear the pain it took to live in a world with her husband as her son and killer of her ex-husband.
