Career in film scoring:
Film Arranger
Introduction:
Film scoring is all about making sure the music others create, goes well with a particular scene in a movie/TV shows or advertisements. The advantage of this is that you get to have fun and know that your music will be heard and enjoyed by others. However, the field is very hard to get into as there is a lot of competition. It is very difficult to make a living off this career as most projects want original music, but if a person puts in enough effort they could actually make a fortune. The music is important in the film as it creates the atmosphere. It is used to create the mood of a certain time or place (setting), tell us something about what kind of character the actor or actress is etc. Many people are faced with harsh challenges as soon as they get into the field of film scoring because of the deadlines and little expertise. It is widely suggested to get a Bachelor Degree in film scoring.

A music arranger works with artists and music producers in general whereas film arrangers only work with visual effects that are combined with music. A film arranger arranges the music that is used in a film or TV programmes. He/she determines all the elements that go into the music (e.g. the voices, instruments, rhythm, tempo and all other things that are based on the conductor or film producer’s specifications.) So in general film arrangers have a very good ear for music. Film arrangers have a lot of knowledge about music theory, orchestration and harmony. They can specialize in one type of music genre .They also have experiences as copyists, writing music and being able to play one or more instruments. The average salary that film arrangers can make is $20,000 to $43,000. Converted to rands this is R278 400 to R598 560
Finally, as the mentioned examples show us: composers becoming immersed with a filmmaker at an early stage of their careers can end up to be one of the most natural, harmonic and fruitful artistic relationships for both of them. Hopefully in future more composers can become a more active part in the storytelling as a co-author of the film, while remaining a versatile and original author of music, in other words a great composer.
Music is has a big impact on animated movies. Without it, the movies would be very bland and wouldn’t have as much emotion. Music
In The Important Places filmmaker choose awesome music because it gives viewer to feel in the best mood while watching. Similarly, Contributing Writer for Film Rejects, Allison, says “Music is an important part of any film, but with documentaries, the music becomes all the more important because it is reflecting real world issues and not just a works of fiction.” I agree with Allison, because music is the one media to draw viewers’ feeling, which touches the soul as well as capable of bonding people together from different background, and cultural heritage. This make music is key in the filmmaker, specially documentaries film to draw millions of people

...high angle shots, two or three shots, and close ups establish the mood and relationship between the characters. Whether the sound was orchestral or pop music, it had a significant value to the plot, sequences, and shots of the story. In the case of movie shots, editing had a significant value to the film in order to help identify characters importance to the plot of a story.
A crew includes a screenwriter, whose job it is to provide the written blueprint version of the entire film. This is basically the starting point for any movie. Next there is the producer. There are many types of producers; executive producers, co-producers, assistant producers and line producers. They all do very different things. Some are the producers are responsible for raising the funds for the movie while others are responsible for the production that goes on during the filming of the movie and still other producers are in charge of what physically goes on the set. Then it is time for the director. The director is in charge of the actors. The director works with the actors to visually bring to life what was written on the screenplay (Fortunato, Who Does What on a Film). Now the idea needs to come together. The idea of writing, “what you know” is not always true and writing, “what you come to know” is in fact a more accurate way to write. Other good ways to formulate ideas are to use existing plays, novels, short stories, life stories, new articles, or even past TV shows and film. When using existing work a person needs to make sure that one secures the copyrights before starting write. Securing the copyrights does not mean one is finished yet. Now a person needs...
The main difference between Hollywood classical films is that they are narrative while Music Videos are non-narrative in nature. Films present series of events in different ways that imply connection between one event and the next. It basically follows the cause-and-effect relationship where one action is the result of another (Manchel, 1990). Editing in films binds the narrative by assembling sequences, layers of imagery, the story, music, effects and the pace to shape the story into a final product.Editing in music videos is done to setup a mood, feeling and emotional state which disconnects the audience from the traditional narrative. There may be or may not be a story, but the main focus of music videos is ...
All these responsibilities require ability in music, some experience , combined with a thorough knowledge of music and music theory. It also requires music and sound production in a recording studio along with a key sense of listening. Some music producers work for record labels producing for recording artists under a contract which has very exact wantings for that artist. And while many are full-time employees, others are self-employed. Which means they must also have experience in running a business.
Sound is what brings movies to life, but, not many viewers really notice. A film can be shot with mediocre quality, but, can be intriguing if it has the most effective foley, sound effects, underscore, etc. Sound in movies band together and unfold the meaning of the scenes. When actors are speaking, the dialogue can bring emotion to the audience, or, it can be used as the ambient sound. Music is one of the main things to have when filmmaking. The use of Claudia Gorbman’s Seven Principles of Composition, Mixing and Editing in Classical Film gives audiences a perspective of sound, and, how it can have an impact on them.
During the golden age of Hollywood the film studios became very powerful. They handled every aspect of a movie from production to distribution. Any one who worked for the film studio was under contract from the actors to the set designers and beyond, everyone was the property of the studio. This started out in the 1930s and the studios would tell their employees that they can and can not do. If you were not willing to listen to the studio there was a chance you would be put on suspension[Learner].
Film editing by definition is part of the creative postproduction process of filmmaking. In today’s modern world, film has made use of advanced digital technology to help with the editing. The editor or editors are usually given a complete compilation of all the footage. These various separate shots that can be regarded as ‘ raw’ footage. Their task is to create a finished motion picture through combining and selecting shots and putting them into a coherent sequence of events. Whenever we are viewing a film it is extremely difficult to consciously perceive all the editing that has been undertaken. Every single time there is a change from one image to another, this is an edit. For editors, it could be a possible annoyance or perhaps a blessing that critics and the audience never specifically point out the editor’s contribution. However it must be noted that film editors aren’t the only ones that will contribute to a films editing.
However, Cohen (1999) described eight functions of music in a film. First, music masks extraneous noises. Secondly, it provides continuity between shots. Thirdly, it directs attention to important features of the screen through a structural congruence. Fourth, when it is not associated with a particular focus it induces mood.
...ing sounds and transmit them into the human heart. Without movie music, films would be dull and boring. The importance of film music is considered a jewel for manipulating the viewer’s emotions and immerses them into the movie. Music is one of the most important elements in film, for it capabilities and versatility of telling a story independently without picture.
The film industry, which settled in Hollywood, experienced great financial success through the Great Depression and this is largely due to film studios being able to produce films at a rapid pace. This introduction of the studio system, was in large part, the reason the filming pace was manageable and maintainable and the success led to the ‘Golden Era’ of Hollywood. Actors, directors and production crews were staying employed during a period of economic hardship but viewers found escape from the struggle of daily life. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, “all good things must come to an end.”
The notably development and growth of western and classical music has influenced a great deal of modern film music. A majority of composers in early nineteenth century composed their pieces of music in their own aesthetics through the improvisation method (Anthony Newman, 2013).
