Rocky Shore Study
Aim
The aim of this investigation is to find where the lower, middle and
upper zones on the rocky shore start and end by looking at the species
present and absent in each zone.
Apparatus
0.5m2 frame quadrat
2 marking poles
Tape measure
Method
This investigation will be conducted when the tide is low on the rocky
shore at Scarborough. In order to record a sample of the species along
the rocky shore, an interrupted belt transect will be used to ensure
the sample is representative of the whole population and so that the
method is not too time consuming. A tape measure will be stretched on
the ground from the low water mark to the high water mark. A marking
pole will then be erected by the low tide mark. A 0.5m2 frame quadrat
will be placed next to the marking pole and all the species within the
quadrat will be identified and their abundance recorded. Another
marking pole will be placed 5m up-shore from the first marking pole
and another 5m2 frame quadrat will be placed next to the it and the
species along with their abundance will be recorded. This process will
be repeated until 85m of the rocky shore has been covered.

Barrier Beaches stretch along the entire east coast of the United States. The barrier beaches from Long Island to Maine are known as Glaciated Coasts because their formation was assisted by glaciers. Eighteen thousands years ago a glacier covered most of the eastern US. This glacier terminated at present day Long Island. About fifteen thousands years ago the glacier began to retreat. As it melted it left behind mounds of rubble, called moraines. This particular glacier left behind two moraines because its final recession was a two part process. These two moraines are the Ronkonkoma Moraine and the Harbor Hill Moraine. The Ronkonkoma Moraine is located in central Long Island and the Harbor Hill Moraine is located on the northern part of Long Island. Besides the two moraines the glaciers deposited great amounts of debris offshore. This debris supplies the sand needed to create and maintain a barrier beach system (Hoel 16-18).
The main idea of Tar Beach, to me, is that your imagination can make anything possible. The young girl uses her imagination to make all she wants her. She first explains how much she loves the George Washington bridge, “The bridge was my most prized possession.” She talks about how her father worked on the bridge and how much that meant to her. The author explains that the girl imagines she can fly and once she flies over something, she claims it to be hers. Throughout the book she claims the union building for her father and the ice cream factory for all of her family to enjoy. She also takes her brother flying with her, “I have told him it’s very easy. It was a long journey, but the promise od succes drove them forward. English settlers have finally arrived in Chesapeake bay. They came to establish Britians first permanent settlement, in hopes of finding riches and establishing trade. They thought the new land had so much promise, but fortune they did not. Many of the Chesapeake Bay’s inhabitants are unaware of the destruction they are triggering. The Chesapeake Bay is a local estuary in the watershed near our home in Loudoun County Virginia. With its monumental size, various problems occurring are anticipated. Pollution is the leading factor in this great body of water’s downfall. Without proper control being taken, this neighboring site of leisure, food resource, and tourist income will suffer and continue to decline. The cleanliness of the Chesapeake Bay is declining over time causing harm to many species that call the Bay their home.

Within Colorado’s borders lies the home of 104,185 square miles of geology. Within those 104,185 square miles you will find many different types of sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks. Colorado is split into five physiographic provinces: the Middle Rocky Mountains, the Wyoming Basin, the Colorado Plateau, the Southern Rocky Mountains, and the Great Plains (“Physiographic,” 2013). Inside these provinces are millions of years worth of geological time that tell a story of volcanic eruptions, uplift and erosion, deposition, and metamorphism.
An Analysis of Dover Beach Dover Beach intrigued me as soon as I read the title. I have a great love of beaches, so I feel a connection with the speaker as he or she stands on the cliffs of Dover, looking out at the sea and reflecting on life. Arnold successfully captures the mystical beauty of the ocean as it echoes human existence and the struggles of life. The moods of the speaker throughout the poem change dramatically, as do the moods of the sea. The irregular, undesirable rhyme is representative of these inharmonious moods and struggles.

Of all the island in the Philippines, Scarborough shoal can be considered as the most intriguing property of the country. It is said to be claim to the Philippines but China also claims it as theirs. Scarborough shoal is located at the west of Zambales, Mindanao. China refers to it as the Huangyan Island while Philippines called it Panatag Shoal. It is said to be a very reliable sources of fossil fuel and many important minerals to the conflict between China and Philippines.
Seagrass is on the decline around the world and it is an extremely vital marine ecosystem found in shallow water mainly distributed throughout tropical seas, from a temperature around 4oC to 24oC (Green and Short 2003). They are the only true flowering plant (angiosperm) to live in aquatic conditions providing support and shelter for vast amounts of species (Orth et al. 2006; Jackson et al. 2001). They are a marine aquatic plant and a keystone species for many coastal areas found all over the world (Libralato, Christensen and Pauly 2006). Although there is not a huge variety of species, there are only around 60 species globally and over 14% of them are endangered (Green and Short 2003; Orth et al. 2006). The different seagrass ecosystems perform relatively similarly throughout the varying species (Turner and Schwarz 2006). This study will examine the various importances of seagrass and to what extent they are vital for the survival of species within their ecosystem. In addition to this, the role of seagrass in important ecosystem processes will be examined. The abundance of coastal regions are closely linked with seagrasses as they greatly contribute to productivity. Seagrass meadows are highly productive and are ideal for nurseries and providing a relatively safe habitat and shelter from predators (Hughes et al. (2008).
