Arguments lead to conflict, conflicts wages battles and battles may result to wars. Whenever something is worth fighting for, one does not simply backs out without a fight. Of all the island in the Philippines, Scarborough shoal can be considered as the most intriguing property of the country. It is said to be claim to the Philippines but China also claims it as theirs. Scarborough shoal is located at the west of Zambales, Mindanao. China refers to it as the Huangyan Island while Philippines called it Panatag Shoal. It is said to be a very reliable sources of fossil fuel and many important minerals to the conflict between China and Philippines.
The conflict mainly focuses on which country should be claiming the island. Many evidences of ownership were stated and debates went over, but there is still no guarantee of naming the owner of the island. Golez, a very reliable source of information, said that China has been doing illegal and inappropriate strategies. Knowing that Philippines lacks warships, China has sent some of theirs in the perimeter area of Scarborough Shoal when the issue of ownership started. Chinese fishermen were also seen trespassing and stealing some charcoals and specimens in the said Island. Because of their actions, Philippines started to question why do China uses force to take over

They also implemented the rule that if any Filipino who wants to go in has first to ask whether they will be allowed to do so. Even though, Chinese guards will only allow those who are reasonable. Chinese authority’s next step would be to have vigorous development. (Zhang 2012). China’s actions are leading to forceful and desperate ways of obtaining the island. Their actions led to many threats in different nearby areas of the Philippines. Not only that it causes possible ominous actions, but it may also cause a possibility of triggering a
The Philippines was annexed because they needed guidance in leading their new nation. Owning our children is like the United States annexing the Philippines. The Philippine Islands our like children who are small and weak, but with the United States is like the parents that help the children grow and prosper into strong people. “That there was nothing left for us to do but to take them all, and to educate the Filipinos, and uplift and civilize and Christianize them, and by God’s grace do the very best we could by them, as our fellowmen for whom christ also died” (Doc C). The
In my opinion The United States ordeal with Annexing the Philippines and the idea that we had of going into war with them was great mistake and should have been avoided. The Filipinos and Americans were deadlocked in war with each other. This all became a controversy with the two nations in 1898 when the Treaty of Paris between Spain and the United Stated ceded all seven thousand islands of the Philippine archipelago to the United States, for just a mere twenty-million dollars. Congress had approved the treaty with Spain, by February of 1899. Mckinley was on the verge of calling for the annexation of the Philippines which brought on a bloody two year struggle. In my opinion the United States was the cause of all of this because of three different reasons, for one our government would not...
The Americans came back to the island. They wanted to test the atomic bomb on the island. They forced the natives to move to an island south of Bikini. This did not make the natives happy, they didn't want to lose there island.
... held on to until 1968 when the Johnson administration turned it back over to Japan. This is has become a sore subject for some Marines who fought and watched brothers die for a piece of rock. The Marine Corp veterans believe we should have kept it as a memorial to those who had paid the ultimate sacrifice. Japan has since built a memorial for all WWII veterans and continues to do investigations on the island.
The United States should not annex the Philippine islands, the Philippines, already a country of their own should not be forced to adapt to American culture and civilization. Prior to the annexation of the Philippines, America had major conflict with Spain in order to free Cuba from their brutal tactics for dominance. Tension continued to rise, until President Mckinley decided to take action and go to war against Spanish forces to enable a more stable government as well as provide protection for the citizens of Cuba. After months of fighting, the Spanish admitted defeat and began discussing peace terms of the Treaty of Paris. In this treaty Cuba was guaranteed independence, also the Spanish were forced to give up Guam and Puerto Rico. They Spanish also complied to selling the Philippines to the U.S for 20 million. However, the Filipinos wanted independence, not just a change in who governed them, this desire led many Philippine citizens to break out, beginning the Philippine- American war, which lasted three years, and caused the death of over two hundred thousand American and Filipino citizens.
With the sinking of the USS Maine of the coast of Cuba, the United States people got infuriated with the fact that 260 Americans died and the only culprit at the time was a Spanish ship. The press with its yellow journalism spread the news throughout the states, enraging many Americans with their yellow journalism. The New York Journal at the time went as far as saying that “ ” () President McKinley and the members in Congress at the time were forced to declare war on Spain, fearing the negative effects it would have if they let the matter go. With the declaration of war the United States recruited so many men for the army and navy they didn’t know what to do with them, but inevitably our numbers made us prepared for anything Spain had to through at us. Although most of the battles were fought by the navy like Alfred Thayer said “In order to be a great power like Great Britain the U.S. need to control the seas and dominate international commerce.” (Mahan, A. T.) With a greater naval force then Spain the U.S. was able over whelm them and win almost all the battles they fought in. Alfred also said with in his book “The influence of sea power upon history” that the islands that the United States acquired through the means of imperialism also serve as refueling station for our ships during war or transport. Hawaii especially because of its central location in the
The Takeshima/Dokdo Island, also known as the Liancourt Rocks by other nations, is an island that is located 215km away from mainland Korea while and is also located 250km away from Japan and has been a very well known cause for Japan and Korea to fight over. The two countries have been arguing against one another trying to declare that the island actually belongs to them, rather than trying to find peaceful talks of resolving such an issue. Such dispute did not occur in recent years, but has been going on for decades, from the Japanese declaring annexation in the early 1900s until today, where the current Korean president does not feel there i...
One of the most disputed superimposed borders within Latin America is the Colombian-Nicaraguan dispute concerning sovereignty over the maritime features located between both countries in the Caribbean Sea. For 11 years, Nicaraguan lawyers have argued that nearly 50,000 square kilometers of Colombian sea in truth belonged to the Central American state. The area in question includes the archipielago of San Andrés, Providencia, and Santa Catalina, a group of tropical islands surrounded by coral reefs. The archipielago is located 482 miles from the Colombian coast and just 140 from Nicaragua, but has been settled by Colombians since the 19th century.
The first place they come to is the island of Juan Fernandez. Here ."..all the people, except the soldiers and a few officers, were convicts sent from Valparaiso" (48). Because of the mass population of convicts, knives were forbidden, and all weapons were to be kept away from them. Dana and the crew concluded that the island belonged to Chili and was used by the government as a Botany Bay.

Initially it was Spanish territory, but the French and English also assumed control of the island at various points in history. Pirates and privateers used the island as a safe refuge to restock their supply of fresh water and supplies(Hartog, 55).
