Rhetorical Analysis: You Can Go Home Again

The issue reported in the article, “You Can Go Home Again” by Eve Tushnet is that it is fine to go back home with your parents. Eve’s statement is clearly given by using herself as an example. Tushnet supports her claim by starting her article with a dialogue between her and her friend and make it seem that he is living better than her. The article is developed with rhetorical appeals by listing research information, providing personal experiences and continuously giving her opinion related to the topic. Sometimes young adults go through economic crisis or mental crisis by living on their own but this article will change the perspectives of those young adults who plan to go back home with their parents.

Eve uses a 2008 study interview of young adults to point out that those who live with their parents “. . . few contribute financially to the house hold or did chores (Tushnet, 2016, 496). Pathos is also used when Tushnet gave facts and her opinion and using her personal experience by saying that this only happens to those who are lazy and always depend on their parents. Eve also mention data from 1968 to 2007 how men tend to live with their parents. Men tend to get married later than women for the reason that they are waiting to be economically stable (Tushnet, 2016, p.97)Eve intends for the audience to understand that is fine to start life with your significant other on your own even if you have to receive help from your parents. Eve gives the example of pregnant women who plan to marry their child father in the future, “At a pregnancy center where I volunteer, about half of the women intend to marry their children’s father eventually (Tushnet, 2016, p.497). Eve explains how it doesn’t matter if you are not economically stable you can already get married and try to build your family and that you shouldn’t wait be together as a family. Staying with parent does not make you an irresponsible person. Only because you live with your parents does not mean that you are less of a mature person or that you can depend on them.
