Sasakamoose:’Call Me Indian: How We Learn To Be Human Through Our Experiences. The way we learn to be human is through the experiences that we go through and the things we learn from those experiences. I believe that the experiences we go through help us shape our ideologies, future, and overall well-being and help us understand how to be human because experience is what gives us the idea of how to be human, just like in the case of Fred Sasakamoose. Although many people don’t want to believe experiences shape how we are human as they may have rough experiences in their life, it is essential to think and talk about these experiences just like Fred Sasakamoose has done in his book “Call Me Indian.” At the beginning of the biography, Sasakamoose shares with us his experiences at residential …show more content…

(Sasakamoose 37) However, in the later years, he saw one of the boys who had raped him, and he decided not to get revenge on him, proving his growth over time as a person through his experiences as he did not feel revenge would do anything. Furthermore, while reading the text, he always seems to mention residential school in other chapters as well, like when he said, “A glass of creamy whole milk. Like the breakfasts persisted at St. Michaels.” (Sasakamoose 65) So, with this, I feel as if talking about his memories/experiences at residential school shows how you can get through rough moments in your life and how you should share those experiences with others instead of bottling up those memories, as any experience is one where you can learn and grow from just like Fred did. Going deeper into the biography, Sasakamoose learns to be human through his experiences in the white world. He shares about his time at Moose Jaw and his experiences with the Moose Jaw Canucks
