Respect

Many people have different ideas about what respect means. I think it means

having respect for others, property, and respect for yourself. Most people want respect even if it is just a little. The American Heritage Dictionary states that respect is

1. A feeling of appreciative, often deferential regard, esteem.

2. The state of being regarded with honor or esteem.

3. Willingness to show consideration or appreciation.

People demand different amounts of respect, though not everyone is willing to give the amount needed. Maybe this is because not every one knows what respect means.

The first rule is respect for others. A few of those “others” are teachers, police, authority figures, and business people. Respect for others is listening to the person talking, not interrupting class, and being respectful to other people’s ideas. It means, doing the work shown, and not asking to repeat what was just said. But those are just a few examples.
