September 11, 2001 Catastrophes shown in two Point of Views Killing around 3,000 people, September 11, 2001 was a day of complete devastation. After terrorists from the group Al Qaeda took over four different United States planes, one of the most horrific events in history occurred that has influenced the creation of the film, United 93. In the film, United 93, director Paul Greengrass decided to keep some major details from 9/11 the same but modified the timing of the events due to the lack of knowledge from the actual event. In the film, United 93, major events from 9/11 that help to explain the horrible catastrophes that occurred on that day are shown in the film. One major event that was kept in the film that also happened on 9/11 is …show more content…
the fact that passengers on flight United 93 both attempted to take control over the plane and defeat the hijackers. As the passengers continued to fight for themselves, many were shocked as, “A fourth plane crashed into a Pennsylvania field, after passengers and crew attempted to wrest control from the hijackers” (“9/11 Timeline”). While it is important to know what happened on flight United 93, it is also important to understand the background of the hijackers. The hijackers shown in the film and the hijackers involved in the actual event were all from the terrorist group, Al Qaeda. Shown in the beginning of the film, the hijackers were praying to their Gods, which revealed that “All of the men were from nations in the Middle East. They belonged to a terrorist group called Al Qaeda, led by Osama bin Laden” (Smith). As Paul Greengrass left the context of the terrorists being from the group, Al Qaeda, that left viewers with a sense of knowledge to whom caused such a calamity on September 11, 2001. All in all, leaving the most important similarities in the film allows for viewers to have a sense of what it was actually like during the event. While lots of the events that were shown in the film the same as the actual event, there were also some of the events that the director, Paul Greengrass altered from 9/11.
For example, in the film and the actual event, both revealed the decisions made by the passengers on flight United 93 moments before the crash in Pennsylvania. However, only the passengers on the actual flight knew exactly what was said and what was done before the tragic crash. As people are really trying to depict what went on moments before the crash, “The filmmakers, working with the passengers' families, have pieced together what may have happened from the cell phone calls made that morning. And while no one can be sure what happened on the plane before it crashed, what's on screen seems all too plausible…” (Mondello). Furthermore, both the film and the actual event acquired the audio from the cockpit involving the conversation between the pilots and hijackers. Although, what is strange is that the film was released without the actual cockpit recording being released from the real event. As passengers were shown attempting to take over the cockpit, “The film was finished before a transcript of the cockpit voice recording was released. Therefore, these scenes can only be a work of imagination, and indeed they were largely improvised by the cast.” (Tunzelmann von). Even though the film did not possess the exact same characteristics as the actual event, viewers were still intrigued to see one of many point of view’s from the devastating
event. Greengrass’s altercations in the film United 93 creates a sense of anticipation and a distinct point of view from the actual day of 9/11. One event that really stood out that was shown in the film that reflected off 9/11 was both the passengers in the film and the actual event put up a struggle to regain control of the plane from the hijackers. Leaving this heroic encounter in the film exhibits to viewers that even though the state the passengers on flight United 93 were in, those certain passengers never gave up and never lost hope for striving to save their lives and the lives of others. On the other hand, Greengrass released the film with recordings from the cockpit, while the cockpit recordings from 9/11 were not even released yet. This reveals Greengrass’s interpretations for the movie. While Greengrass was uncertain about the true cockpit recordings, he intended on giving viewers a sense of what was going on which created suspense in the film. While keeping major events and also altering major events, Greengrass hoped to attract viewers while honoring the heroic deeds of 9/11. United 93 was a very influential event that showed the major fear and events that occurred on 9/11. While Greengrass kept major details in the film the same from the actual event, he also modified some details that he had little or no comprehension of. With creating scenes in the film that represented the fight the passengers held against the hijackers, to the background of the hijackers, viewers were left with an understanding of what flight United 93 was actually like. Additionally, Greengrass revised specific scenes to which he has little or no understanding of. From changing the mindset of the passengers moments before the crash, to amending details in the cockpit recordings, Greengrass revised these scenes to avoid confusion or anger from viewers towards what actually happened on flight United 93. All in all, September 11, 2001 was a day full of odious events that will never be forgotten. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives that day and aiming to honor and recognize those brave individuals that lost their lives for others is shown in the film, United 93.
During an interview of three family members, I was able to learn more information about the events of 9/11. My mom, Jamie Goldman, was the first person I interviewed. She told me she was helping a friend with her new business in Aiken, SC. She first heard on the radio, breaking news, that a plane had flown into one of the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center. Her first thought was that a plane had crashed accidentally. As the day went on, she learned of even more horrible acts against our country, and then realized our Nation was under attack from terrorist. My mom was heartbroken, scared, sad, and mad all at the same time. She struggles with forgiving the terrorist but knows that God would want her to forgive them. The song "God Bless the USA" is a song that helps my mom cope with the events of 9/11. My mom did not know anyone personally that was killed or injured on 9/11. She said, "after 9/11, our country has been a country at war. We have stopped loving our neighbors and instead, started judging them."
September 11, 2001 was a day that Americans and the world for that matter will not soon forget. When two planes went into the twin towers of the World Trade Center and two others went into the Pentagon and a small town in Pennsylvania, the world was rocked. Everyone in the United States felt very vulnerable and unsafe from attacks that might follow. As a result, confidence in the CIA, FBI, and the airlines were shaken. People were scared to fly after what had happened.
9/11 was one of the most devastating events in American History. Four hijacked passenger airplanes killed almost three thousand people. 9/11 changed millions of lives forever. American Citizens didn’t feel safe. This attack was a wake-up call to American security. 9/11 forced the country to acknowledge its shortcomings and fix them, before any more harm could come upon the United States of America. 9/11, as all acts of terror do, promoted the growth of technology, in this case, security in the United States. 9/11 also brought about feelings of hatred to the country. The United States soon became known as one of the most intolerable nations on this planet. Lastly, 9/11 butchered the economy and forced it down a long road to recovery.
On the morning of September 11/2001, 19 terrorist working for the Al Qaeda terrorist organization hijacked four commercial planes. They attempted to fly them into multiple U.S targets. One of the planes, American Airlines, flight 11, crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center at 8:50 a.m. Another plane, United Airlines, flight 175, crashed into the south tower at 9:04 a.m. These tragedies took the lives of nearly 3000 people and affected the lives of millions.

September 11, 2001 is known as the worst terrorist attack in United States history. On a clear Tuesday morning, there were four planes that were hijacked and flown into multiple buildings by a terrorist group named al Qaeda. This group, led by Osama bin Laden, killed nearly 3,000 people. Out of those 3,000 people more than 400 police and 343 firefighters were killed along with 10,000 people who were treated for severe injuries. Many lives were taken, and to this day, people still suffer from the attack. September 11th is the most influential event of the early twenty-first century because it made an increase in patriotism, it caused a rise in security throughout the nation, and it had a tremendous effect of thousands of lives.
Overall, 9/11 was a big deal, it changed America forever even though it was a tragic or horrific day in the American history. It was an era in which individuals acted honorably. September 11 experienced horrible hours, but it lead to the beginning of one of America's finest opportunities.
The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 changed the skyscape of New York City. They also changed the political, economic, and cultural landscape of the United States. September 11th showed Americans that not even the strongest military country in the world can protect its citizens from terrorism. The changes in America since 9/11 have not only impacted Americans but have impacted citizens of other nations worldwide. This infamous day in history had the power to turn the world upside down in only a matter of hours.
One of the most infamous dates in American history, September 11, 2001 is also one of the darkest and controversial dates. September 11, 2001 or 9/11 is remembered as a tragic terrorist attack by al-Qaeda, a Muslim extremist group, primarily on the World Trade Towers. Directed by al-Qaeda, 19 hijackers took over four passenger planes, American Airlines- Flight 11 and Flight 77, and United Airlines- Flight 175 and Flight 93. These hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center Towers, the Pentagon and Somerset County, Pennsylvania. With devastating impacts, the U.S was scarred. From the 9/11 building attacks alone, 2,753 people died and in total, close to 6,000 deaths (CNN Library). As demoralizing these reports are, what is more shocking is that 911 was part of a vast conspiracy and mass criminal cover-up by the U.S. government.
...verything around us is made by our actions. Positive or negative they cause an effect that will ultimately lead to a different story base on how we interpret life. Narrative elements are used as a bridge by the directors in their film to create any master plot that is currently known. Any modification at any narrative element used by the director at important moments inside the story can help you portray a different master plot. This used of narrative elements can be best described as an ever changing process that takes place inside an individual’s head. Depending on the individual that may be exposed to those narrative elements can create different meanings. This new interpretation can be different for everyone. We have to be aware that one change in the surface scenery can lead to many ideal outcomes in our minds and that is the main power the audience has.
The storytelling technique made use by Cameron in the film Titanic is special because history and fiction is inculcated within the plot. For example, Cameron made use of the history of RMS Titanic as the main plot of the film. But he was aware of the fact that mere history of a cruise ship will not satisfy the global viewers. So, he decided to inculcate fiction and romance to the main plot. Parisi (1998), states that “Cameron’s gift was to create a unique moviegoing experience, one audiences couldn’t get from any other film” (202). One can easily identify that inculcation of fiction and romance is helpful...
This movie came out in 2003 meaning that it was being written and filmed soon after 9/11 and the start of the war on terror and these aspects can be seen in underlying qualities throughout the movie. The plot of the movie revolves around
