Movie: Titanic (1997) Basic plot: This is fictional plot based on a true story of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. The main plot centers around a poor man, Jack, and wealthy young socialite women Rose who met on the inaugural voyage of the Titanic and fall in love. The Titanic which was touted as the unsinkable ship ends up hitting an iceberg, which leads to the ship flooding and sinking. The film shows Jack and Rose overcoming many obstacles such as frigid water, lack of lifeboats, and a jealous fiancé to escape the ship before it sinks. The film ends with Jack and Rose clinging to the tip of the ship as it sinks, and being catapulted into the freezing waters of the Atlantic. Several hours later, Rose is rescued while Jack passes away from hypothermia. Rose ends up living her life away from the stuffy high-class wealthy world, instead of traveling the world seeking countless adventures, This film depicts a real event with a …show more content…

Being that the film is set in 1912, the engine is run on coal which is tossed into a hot boiling room. One health issue that arises from this include increased exposure to Particulate Matter via coal dust which can lead to black lung disease, respiratory problems, and cancer. Another health issue that occurred was potential for heat exhaustion, these workers are exposed to high temperatures that can lead to heat rashes, heat stroke, and other health-related issues. Furthermore, the engine room is known to have a lot of loud noise, which can create for noise-induced hearing loss if protections are not worn. Lastly, being that the engine room is in a confined space the potential to escape in an emergency such as a ship sinking can be hard, and often they get trapped in the bottom of the ship. These engine workers exposure to various health hazards and eventual health issues depict how important worker safety standards
