Mysteries of The Bermuda Triangle The legendary Bermuda Triangle has many so-called “mysteries”, but there are some who have set forth to disprove these theories and claims. Using science and facts, these individuals have attempted to prove what had actually taken place. Stories involving sinking ships, lost planes, and unexplained visions have all been given scientific explanations. However, some explanations are a stretch. Distinguishing science from myth is necessary, but it has been proven a difficult task. Dating back to the time of Shakespeare, his play, titled “The Tempest”, has been assumed to involve the Bermuda triangle (History.com). The Cyclops’ job was to transport ore to the country, but it never arrived (History.com). Distress signal nor other means of contact were attempted, men and ship disappeared without a trace. Some may say this was the curse of the Triangle itself, others claim monsters, but some have well-backed scientific reasoning. Further investigation reveals the ship had reported to Barbados with a cracked cylinder, causing the ship to lose speed and maneuverability (The Unanswered Loss of). According to NavyHistory.org, “Water entering the hull would affect the ship’s stability and buoyancy, probably resulting in free surface effect that caused progressive flooding, and ultimately causing her to sink. This process may have been unperceivable to the bridge watch, particularly if it occurred during dark or extreme weather; they would have little notice that the ship was about to sink.” (The Unanswered Loss of). These assumptions are highly probable and a great deal more believable than a monster who could sink …show more content…

There is presumedly a large amount of methane existing within the Triangle’s borders (14 Popular Bermuda Triangle Theories). Assumptions have been made that with a large methane content in the water, ships could easily sink. However, large amounts of methane in water did not stop the cleanup process during the BP oil spill in 2010. Because there was a large amount of methane in the ocean due to the oil spill, the ships would have sunk according to this idea. In contrast to that idea, none of the ships during the cleaning of the oil spill experienced any buoyancy problems disproving the methane
