“Shut up Lionel!” exclaims every individual I am acquainted with whenever the name UPenn rolls off my tongue. During the turmoil that is Pretty Little Liars, I recall watching my favorite character, Spencer Hastings, receive a letter of rejection from my dream school, but my so-called obsession with the University of Pennsylvania did not end there. I get my feet from the first day I embark on my educational journey at Pennsylvania, wet. In my appointed cohort, I enroll in Wharton 101 which will introduce me to Wharton and more of myself. Moreover, through experiential learning, I will be able to successfully work in a ten person team to complete a group project, developing my critical analysis, group participation, and problem-solving skills. As National Honors Society President, I have experienced positional leadership by choosing service projects, electing new members, leading meetings, and allocating different responsibilities. Through this program, though, I will especially be able to advance my persuasive leadership skills which I will need to influence the world of business. The practical use of these skills will not just ensure that I understand them, but that I master them as well. The wide range of internships available to me in the Philadelphia area will exercise these newly acquired skills in the …show more content…
During my eighth grade year, I went on an educational trip to France; we had been learning the French language and about the culture there. But experiencing it first hand in a place where I was forced to put my French skills to the test, shone the information through prescribed glasses. I want to enjoy the same opportunity with the Wharton International Program in which 10 days will last a lifetime. Personally, the most attractive aspect of this program is that it is available from freshman year, so I would not have to wait till my Sophomore or Junior year. I can just jump
It is one thing to have the knowledge of “the practice of mobilizing people to tackle tough challenges and thrive”. What I am persistent to do with that knowledge is what is important. My biggest take away is that I need to get on the balcony. By being on the balcony I can see that is it really the bold guy with the dance moves who starts the party, not the DJ. Silly to me that I never realized that is where I needed to be, that is where people could find me in a real life party. A year from now I hope that is still where I will be, looking for new data and learning more about myself in new circumstances. There will always be more to learn, although every once in a while I will have to intervene in situations that will make me uncomfortable. To carry on improving on the skills I picked up during the course of this class, it will be crucial for me to reevaluate the goals I set for myself. I plan to reset them all and provide myself with a timeline to achieve the goals. KU offers a minor in leadership studies and this classes is the foundation for all of those leadership classes to come. This class will be impossible to forget as I move forward in complete my minor. I will be using what I have learned in this class still three years from, it is kind of
In the book, Getting Away With Murder by Chris Crowe, racism was acted on by a 14-year-old boy named Emmett Till who was gruesomely beaten to death by two supposed Ku Klux Klan members, Roy Bryant and J.W. “Big” Milam. One day Emmett Till supposedly was dared to go into Bryant's Grocery and “go get a date with her” (Crowe 51). That woman was Mrs. Carolyn Bryant, the wife to Emmett’s murderer, Roy Bryant. Emmett had also apparently whistled at her. This infuriated Roy Bryant. Bryant went to Emmett’s great-uncle, Mose Wright’s house and grabbed Emmett from the house. Then he proceeded to bring him to a local friend’s barn and beat him to death. This is what led to the death of Emmett Till. The following statement is by Roy Bryant and his
Around this time last year I was sitting in the guidance room as a runner with Skylar. I had decided what I wanted to do with my life after college. I wanted to be a surgeon. I told Skylar what I wanted to do and she suggested I watch the American drama series “Grey’s Anatomy”. She said it would be a great way to see how your life would play out being a surgeon. Television Producer Shonda Lynn Rhimes is an American television producer, screenwriter and author. She is known as the creator, head writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the television series medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy”. She created an enticing image for me to see how it would be if I become a surgeon and how hard it could be. This Medical Based drama series is centered around Meredith Grey, an aspiring surgeon and daughter of one of the best surgeons, Dr. Ellis Grey. Throughout the series, Meredith goes through professional as well as personal challenges along with a few other surgeons at Seattle Grace Hospital. I instantly got hooked onto the show, I absolutely loved it, this show created a sensation of being in an intense situation. This show made me excited for the future and

I would like to become a member of the Presidential Leadership Academy (PLA) because I am determined to be a successful student at Elmhurst College. The program is focused on helping students, like me, who need academic support and guidance. In order to reach my best, I will need the friends, mentors, teachers, and advocates who I would be fortunate to meet in the Academy. The PLA will prepare me to be self-reflective as I continue to become a more thoughtful person. I consider myself a leader and an independent thinker, I am aware that I have much to learn about how to be a responsible, productive, and successful leader. The PLA would show me how to take the initiative when I have a good idea and yearn to put it into action. When I enter the workplace or join a club or organization, I want to have the leadership skills that help me, my peers, and society. I believe that becoming a member of the PLA at Elmhurst College will change the path of my life. I think that it would help me in ways I cannot even imag...

I would be honored to participate in this program due to the invaluable experience I will receive from SMU in Paris. The advantages from this program can be expressed in two groups: personal and academic. From a personal standpoint, I never thought I would have the opportunity to join a program such as this due to the lack of programs from the previous institutions I attended. When I transferred to SMU exactly one year ago, I began to learn about the extensive study abroad programs and listened to countless stories told by students who had personal experiences. I believe studying in Paris will give me many advantages.
Imagine attempting to expose a highly cautious serial killer who could be anyone living anywhere in the country. In Agatha Christie’s ABC Murders, Hercule Poirot has this exact task placed upon him. A murderer, who only kills in alphabetical order, is on the loose, and Poirot, along with his partner and the police squad, is charged with the case. After a few consecutive murders, clues began to be found as to who “ABC” actually is. A surprising plot twist occurs at the end which has the reader questioning how Monsieur Poirot eventually discovered this careful killer. According to Stanford’s Suggested Reading List, this book is considered a “must read.” Although the novel has its high and low aspects, the plot, setting, characters, conflict, and theme deem this book worthy of Stanford’s highly esteemed list.
The credit that I would fulfill doing this abroad program, an advanced Western Tradition, fits perfectly in my schedule and will help me be one step closer to my early graduation. Most obviously, studying abroad will also benefit my education by giving me a wider-range of knowledge. I will get the chance to talk to numerous people of different backgrounds, hearing what they have done in their life and how they got where they are.
In the MPA Program I witnessed and explored leadership traits in my peers, professionals, and professors in my applied learning experience. Leadership is the resounding theme of what my portfolio represents as each opportunity to engage in problem solving and research involved learning how to be an effective leader. These include a research methods project, literature review and case study. Through these course objectives, I learned that leadership is integrated via theory, practice and ideas. It is collaborative and cooperative. Leading a group project or completing projects in a non-profit setting require power sharing and sharing that is an inclusive process where everyone is working towards the same goal. In my first course in my graduate career, State & Local Government, I quickly learned that going into Public Administration research methods and graduate writing that I was being prepared for a career and not just aiming for academic success. Each theory, practice and process I learned in individual courses carried over into learning more in the remainder of my academic curriculum.

The Best Television Show If someone knew all of your deepest darkest secrets and were threatening to reveal them how would you handle that situation? The Pretty Little Liars is a show based on mystery, but could also be considered a thriller as well. I would have to say that this show is absolutely the best television series that has ever been made because of how it can keep a person wondering and impatiently waiting on what happens next. This television show takes keeping secrets to a whole other level, and shows that some secrets should be taken to the grave.
I always want to be an international student because I believe that learning in different surroundings will offer me a chance to explore the world. In order to become one, I have been preparing myself for this upcoming challenge. Long years of studying and paying most of my attention to school work made me wonder whether it is worthwhile to spend so much time on textbooks and became curious about what it is like to study in another country. In 2011, I seized the opportunity provided by my senior high school and became an exchange student in the U.S. . I didn’t fit in perfectly in the beginning, but throughout my exchange year, I had learned to adapt m...
